Our initial site visit was held in early March 2013 and seemed to go quite smoothly but the written bid proposal for the scoped project did not materialize until early June. We had challenges and frustrations with our communications with our initial sales representative, which after complaining to the owners, was replaced with another representative and the process seemed to start over. Their bid was the only bid that fit our budget and I really wanted to work with Kearns again after having a very positive experience with them years before as well as their response to Dexter's tornado destruction was remarkable. We quickly signed the bid but then spent most of the summer in the dark as to when the work was to commence. There were communication breadowns on who was to purchase the windows(we had replacement windows to install prior to siding being completed) and when I was to have the area prepped for their crews to arrive. August became November, and our house with the old siding removed and only covered in Tyvek, with Kearns not being able to commit to having the siding crew arrive to begin work. It seemed to take the deadline of our home refinancing efforts and its dependency on completed home improvement projects to get the crew out to complete the bidded work. When the crews did finally arrive, they were great. Great attention to detail, professional, and very capable. working with an old house with all its nuances, didn't rattle the Kearns crew. They worked through some cold weather but always stayed focused on taking the time to do it right. Our experience with the Kearns team members who actually performed the work we sought was exceedingly positive. Where we were challenged was working with the members of the Kearns team tasked with coordinating and scheduling the actual work crews.

Referred by colleague when looking to replace the bulk of the windows on a 1952 home with old vinyl that were terribly drafty. Mike Wall from Kearns came by to quote the work and discuss replacing with insulated hybrid product. Very clear with info and about the ordering and delivery process. Bungalow with 4 windows upstairs 2 of which are 6' x 4'. Bob then came by to get precise measurements and later to do the install. Weather made delivery a challenge with that cold snap it was better to wait. Installed in one day Jan 16, some exterior trim finished next morning. All staff extremely helpful, concise and professional throughout. Upper floor had been 10 degrees below heat setting during cold periods. With the new windows its the exact same temp or better! The design, hardware, and function on the new windows is excellent. Couldn't be happier with the process and result. Highly recommend Kearns and even considering more work from them on our home!

I would like to recommend Kearns Brothers for roofing and siding work. I met with Mr. Saltmarche, their representative, in the Fall. He managed my work project from the beginning, by helping me with the selection of the roofing and siding material through its completion. He was easy to reach and if necessary returned calls promptly. The workmen were very skilled with many years of experience. My siding work is beautifully detailed. I have received many compliments from my family and friends. I am very pleased with the completed project.

Shaun is the best. He has outstanding character and intregrey. . Told us we did not need a new roof for 5 or 6 years.. When others tried to sell us one. .

More than satisfied. It was a one day job in which the crew arrived at 9am and was gone at 5pm. The roof was about 1720 sq ft plus a boat port roof covering another 600 sq ft. The work followed exactly how the installation process was described to me by the saleperson and with the products shown to me in the brochures provided. There was even a listing of the process provided that as I watched the work could follow along. Since this was a purchase of an older home it looked as though there had been a water leakage problem around the chimney. The crew supervisor noticed the cause and did the extra proper construction in the area to remedy the problem and assure a high quality job. This was greatly appreciated.

Huge job, done in phases. When problem arose they were quickly addressed, and we were apprised of situation and were able to chose apprropiate resolution. Level of workmanship was superior and workers were dedicated to performing work correrctly. Crews were pleasant and helpful to home owners and wanted to both please the owner and get the job done right. The crews were excellent at cleaning up after they were done so the final product was totally complete - no rails, no siding or roofing materials. They even remade the cupola on our garage, covered the dentils on the house, made the sunburst over the front door, and refurbished scuttles on the downspouts!

I followed the guidelines of selecting the right roofer from Glenn Haege & Kearns Brothers. It was Kearns recommendation to "watch contractors crew in action". It was the actions of Kearns crew themselves that eliminated themselves from consideration even though they were also the highest price. 1st they didn't have the so called large stocked trucks that the salesman showed me on his IPad presentation that showed had everything on site. 2nd the crew carried the shingles up and across a sections of new roof they put up first. That should have been the last section they installed. How professional is this to wear paths in the new roof? That sealed the elimination of strike 3 for Kearns Brothers as being possibly the largest roofing contractor in the Detroit area. They also had the highest number of Angie?s List reviews. I was considering them even though they were the highest price. You get what you pay for right. Wrong! I was so please with the contractor I selected. After I had the work done by another contractor, I was blown away that a contractor as large as Kearns Brothers had their crew carry bundles up the ladder, let alone walking across the sections that were completed. The contractor Constantine Roofing had all the bundles of shingles and other supplies all delivered by a conveyor truck that unloaded 44 squares of shingles directly along the peak of the roof in 30 minutes the day before the crew arrived. That is what I call professional!

We had windows and siding done on our home. We checked 5 different companies to do both jobs. Overall, I found Kearns windows had the best overall cost/design/performance with a combo of vinyl/fiberglass, which allowed a large window opening, but still had strong frames at a fairly reasonable cost. For windows, Kearns price wasn't the lowest price, but we felt there was a definite advantage in having the same company do both the windows and siding. So, we ultimately chose Kearns. We really appreciated the low key (and no pressure sales tactics) of Scott P, who was new at Kearns at the time. Scott was very personable and very easy to talk to. As a result, we had 22 windows replaced and had cement James Hardie board put on most (~70%) of the home (we had our heart set on hardie board right away due to friends/neighbors recommendations). Overall, we were pleased with the outcome. I'll start out with the positives. The work that was done was top notch. The windows and siding installation teams were very skilled and did everything to my expectation (which is pretty high). Both teams did a ton of work to do all the little things right so that the install wouldn't cause issues in the future. Our original windows were so rotted, that most of the sills had to be replaced, which were done with great craftsmanship. The install teams themselves were very approachable, friendly and honest. They did what they could to respect the neighbors areas as much as possible as well. A few areas for improvement for Kearns are communication and timeliness to do the job. Regarding communication, nothing ended up causing any major issues. In fact, due to Kearns internal communication issue, we ended up with a portion of our home which got new siding which wasn't requested. Also, there were some small glitches in getting window install timing dialed in at the beginning (but, nothing to get too worried about). Regarding timeliness, we signed our contract in early July and the teams couldn't start the job until late October. It seemed like they had too many jobs to complete. This, combined with some sequences of bad weather, resulted in a long delay to get things started. But, again, not a deal breaker for us since we weren't on an urgent timeline. As a summary, I will definitely look to Kearns in the future. What's most important to me is the quality of work, which these guys definitely bring. The install team's attention to detail and craftsmanship are fantastic. We've had the windows and siding done for about a month now and we haven't had any big issues. We had a few very small items (a screen that was torn which we didn't notice during install and one of the casement window handles had some of the plastic come off) that Kearns promptly fixed. We now have a much quieter and energy efficient home and are very happy with the end result.

We had Kearns Brothers do our work because the job they had done for us which was a whole house of windows when we first moved in and not a one of the original house windows from 1927 were functioning. The cost was expected to be big for the job size and the quality that we wanted. This is not a house that you put cheap materials into. The mason that did the chimney work was a wonderful craftsman and the outcome was over the top amazing. He put in way more time than we expected him to but the job really shows it from the matching of the bricks to the clean-up was perfect. The roofing crew was an amazing team, they totally protected the house and plantings and started this huge job at 8 am. and the cleanup was done by 5:30 pm.! Three big roofs and decking repair plus the care of us and our property was greatly appreciated. Our salesman Scotty P. was spot-on with the pictures he took of the before roof and after the shinges were off to show us what needed to be done. He knew what the advantages we wanted with the roofing materials that GAF offered and our choices were explaines totally to us so we understood what we needed. Paying for this quality of work and product for our house is the best investment for a house that is our forever home. The comfort and security that we feel knowing the way the job was done makes all the difference to us. It is so worth it.

We are so happy with our new Sunrise windows we purchased through Kearns Brothers Corporation located in Dearborn Mi. The experience was a pleasant one. Once the windows were ordered, the manufacture needed time of course to make them, after that Kearns Brothers called on a Friday to schedule installation on Monday. The crew showed up on time and were here all day, worked through lunch and were very pleasant and professional. Today is now Thursday and they are here again to complete the job. The weather has hindered them somewhat. The installation has gone smoothly, I am so happy that the job was not rushed. The job included 10 windows and one bay window. Not once did I hear complaining from any of the workers about how much time this job was consuming. The crew was very pleasant and professional. They were friendly and cleaned up their mess each day before they left and informed us what time they would return the next day. And were on time the next morning. Bob the main installer went out of his way to do little things that I requested, and even contacted his office to order a full screen that was not included (the windows come with half screens) in the original bid. The price was expensive but the workmanship is beyond. I would absolutely call this company for another bid on some other project we may have. I cannot say enough about how pleased we are with our new windows. I only wish there was a way to download pictures with this review so all could see how beautiful they turned out!

The roofing was very good. They did that job earlier in the summer, but they were not able to do the porch/stoop thing until later. I told them I was on Angie's List and they gave me a discount. The roof cost me an additional $4,800.00. They had different crews to do both projects. The price is way more than I had hoped for, but I think it was fair.

Noticed a Kearns Brother's sign at a home a block away from where I live and have listened to "Ask the Handy Man", expert Glenn Hagie so I knew Kearns Brothers is a very reputable company for any roofing needs. Called Kearns Bros., regarding the chimney needing repairs last summer to schedule an appointment for a quote. Met with Chuck a sale person who arrived promply for the appointment and he assessed what repairs were needed. Basically, it was a 60 year old chimney in need of new brick and cap from the roof line up. My biggest concern regarding the new brick was how well it would match when replacing the old brick. Gave Chuck a few of the original bricks left over from when the home was built, but being that old there was no guarantee that there would be an exact match. Chuck understood my needs, clearly explained the estimate and was both friendly and professionally throughout the discussion of the quote. During the repairs the chimney work was done professionally. My property and garden was protected from falling debris during the installation. Everything was cleaned up after the job completion and the project was completed on time. Best of all I'm happy to report that the results exceeded my expectations. The new brick was an exact match! Even my next door neighbor commented on how nice it looked. The cost of repairs to the chimney was $2,300. A few months later my other neighbor had a problem with their chimney and asked if I knew anyone that I could recommend? As a satified customer, I gave the phone number to Kearns Bros., and mentioned to ask for Chuck to schedule an appointment. In January 2013, I received a questionnaire from AAA regarding the roof of my house. Since there were several questions that I could not answer, including the name of the company that installed the roof. I decided it would be a good idea to be proactive and replace the roof rather than be reactive and wait till there's a leaky roof which would be more costly to repair. Being a repeat customer I decided to call Kearns Bros., again to schedule an appointment to have Chuck come out to prepare a quote for a tear off roof. Chuck arrived a few minutes early for the appointment just as before and also brought GAF Timberline shingle information to give us an idea of what is available to choose from regarding color and style. He also recommened more roof vents to help the roof breathe better and to help it cooler in the summer. Wd decided to use the GAF Architectural shingles for the replacement with a 50 year warranty. Again, the process was smooth from start to finish just as before with the chimney. We love the new roof and the fact that the 50 year warranty is fully transferable to the new owner if we ever sell the home in the future. This is a great selling point and benefit for the new owner of the home. The cost of the new roof was about $7,900. We just had a new garage constructed by Tuff Shed and again we called Kearns Bros., for a quote. Chuck came out to recommended using 6" gutters. The job was done ahead of schedule taking only one hour to complete. The cost of the gutters for the garage was about $878. Finally, another noteworthy event proving Kearns Brothers are true roofing experts is as follows; Tuff Shed is a national company that recommended using an "Owens Corning ridge vent", as the attic exhaust vent for the roof ridge. Unfortunately, there was a leak in the roof after Tuff Shed built the garage. Without hesitation I once again contacted Kearns Brothers for advice from customer service representative, Mel on how to resolve the leak. The 1st question Mel asked was what kind of ridge vent do you have? Mel recommended using the "Snow Country Ridge Vent", and even forwarded the directions on proper installation. After the "O.C. ridge vent", was removed and replaced with the "Snow Country ridge vent", by Tuff Shed the problem waws resolved. Thank you Mel for the helpful advice! Thank you Kearns Brothers for the great job.

I have had an excellent experience with them. They are very attentive to detail and do an excellent job of following up. I would highly recommend them.

Kearns Brothers did an excellent job on our roof. We obtained estimates from several other companies before deciding on Kearns, and Kearns came in about middle as far as price goes. We were completely impressed with consultant Chuck Saltmarche. He took the time to educate us, was polite and not at all pushy. We were concerned about whether our attic had proper ventilation, and Chuck had no qualms about jumping up into our attic (in August) to take a look. No other roofing company showed this much concern. They really care about their customers. We were confident in our decision to hire Kearns, and they did not let us down. The crew was on time, respectful, and added the additional ventilation our attic desperately needed. The job was completed in one day, and they cleaned everything up nicely, even moved our patio furniture back onto our deck for us. The crew was professional and hardworking. They get the job done! Every single interaction we had with this company was positive, from beginning to end. Our new roof looked beautiful until a painter we hired a few weeks later accidentally dumped paint on our roof, damaging an entire section! I made a second call, and it was Kearns to the rescue! They replaced that section of roof, our transferable warranty is in tact, and our roof looks beautiful again! You'll save yourself time and a potential headache by calling these guys first. We plan to call Kearns Brothers again when it's time for new windows.

Kearns brothers was outstanding to work with. Our salesman Michael was knowledgable and easy to work with and he followed the project thoroughly from start to finish. We also worked with Gary Kearns in the Kearns brothers office in Dearborn. Gary went above and beyond in helping us design and decide on color scheme for our new siding. The staff at Kearns was very good at keeping in touch as the date for the project approached. Once started, the crew was very punctual, very cordial and professional. The work that the crew did was outstanding! And at the end of each day they cleaned up the site and made sure any equipment or materials were secure. A few months after the job was complete, we were in need of some repair due to storm damage. Again they were ver punctual and did a great job! I would definitely recommend Kearns Brothers..

Earlier this year I discovered that the cinder block that make up the structure of our front porch was beginning to crumble. So in late August I began getting masonry quotes to determine the cost of repairing the porch. Ultimately I decided to go with Kearn's as the other vendors wanted to do patch repairs rather than fix the fundamental issues (cracked blocks and mortar due to settling and aged bricks). Their bid was very competitive considering the larger scope of work that they proposed. Work started the week of September 23. There was a slight hiccup when the first crew was unable to start as scheduled because they did not have the right tools to properly disassemble the existing railings (planned to be reused) without damaging them. But they resolved that and started work the next work day. The work took a reasonable length of time (about a week) considering the need for inspections and concrete curing time. It was also of clear high quality. I especially appreciated that they did not want payment until we were satisfied with the work. We had a concern at the end regarding the new porch steps. They came out and inspected the work and educated us on code requirements. The new steps were significantly steeper than the new steps. But they explained that code now requires the steps to have between 6 and 8 in risers and be even. Our old steps were less than 6 inches and therefore were not acceptable. Other than missing the final appointment to discuss the issue with the steps, the sales team and workers were always punctual. I rated them a 'B' in this case only because Brendon (our salesman) completely forgot about our last appointment. But, he did contact me later that day and profusely apologized and was professional about taking full responsibility for forgetting. One other minor nitpick would be that the workers left behind fast food cups and cans while the work was in progress. But they cleaned up all the construction debris and trash before the work was completed. You would not know, in the end, that they were ever there. I would definitely use Kearn's again.

The job went beautifully. They were able to start and finish the job within 2 days and the results are spectacular! I am extremely satisfied with the services I received from the crew and staff of Kearn's Brothers. Kearn's Brothers did work on my garage last year that I was very, very pleased and happy with and that is why I hired them to do this latest project on my house. I have other projects that I want done in the future and I will definitely hire Kearn's Brothers to perform those jobs. My neighbor's were so pleased with the crew and the results with my home improvements that they have hired them to install gutters on their home. I highly recommend Kearn's Brothers!

I am a newer owner of a 1700 sq ft ranch that needed both new windows and a new roof. After some investigation, I decided to use Kearns Brothers for both projects. Windows: My home, which was built in 1969, still had the original aluminum windows. Needless to say, the original windows were well past their prime, and produced some hefty drafts during the winter. After considering several options, I chose Kearns for the overall value I felt was offered by the product for the price. They weren?t the least expensive, but I wanted something better than an entry-level window. During the window replacement, the window installers did an impeccable job. The house had 8 windows replaced, and the installers took the time to ensure that all of the old windows were carefully removed, so as to not damage the original marble window sills. Installation of the new windows was done with equal care. Never did the installers rush through the process, just to get it done. I had asked many questions along the way, and the installers always took the time to answer and show me the various aspects of how they were installing the new windows. The overall installation, finishing, exterior trimming and appearance of this project is absolutely first-rate. Roof: After the positive experience I had by using Kearns Brothers for the windows, I decided to use Kearns for a new roof, as well. This included opening up the soffit vents for better attic ventilation, as well as refinishing the soffits and fascias, along with replacing the gutters. On the day the new roof was installed, the crew that arrived removed the old shingles and replaced the new shingles very efficiently and carefully. The crew was also protective of the landscaping next to the house, placing protective boards over the shrubs that could potentially have been exposed during the old shingle removal. Various members of the crew always answered my questions along the way, and discussed any additional materials needed, such as wood trim, wood fasciaboard, etc., that was discovered to be in need of replacement during the process. After the initial roofing job was completed, there were a few minor areas that needed some rework with respect to the drip edge. Kearns Brothers ensured that a crew was dispatched, and the blemishes repaired. The finished roof/soffit/gutter project looks beautiful! After using Kearns Brothers for both of these project, it is clear that Kearns Brothers consistently offers top-quality workmanship, along with ensuring a high level of customer satisfaction. Looking back, I am very pleased that I chose Kearns Brothers for these projects, and I look forward to using Kearns as a future home improvement resource.

Company evidenced professionalism from start to finish. Site visit with a detail quote. Two crews showed up and completed the job from start to finish including a clean up. Follow up about what was discovered in the process was also very complete. Would utilize again and recommend to others.

They stated they were booked with appointments 2-3 weeks out. On the night before my appointment they called and said they made a mistake in scheduling so they needed to reschedule. They realized this after 2-3 weeks go by. Then all of a sudden they now had another date available to days later. They could not handle a appointment what makes me think I can trust them remodeling my master bath.

I listen to Glenn Hagie on Ask the Handyman and he recommends Kearns Brothers quite often on his radio show. I respect his advise and gave Kearns Brothers a call for an estimate on a complete tear off and installation of a new roof and skylight. The install went very well and everyone from sales to the installation team were very courteous. The install went well but when they were done I noticed one of my landscape lights was broken. I talked to Gary at Kearns about this and he not only offered to replace the broken light but he replaced 11 others because the broken light was old and we could not match it. This is a true reflection on how professional the Kearns Brothers company is and that they stand behind not only their product but their service as well. How refreshing to see how much they value their customers and their business. I would recommend Kearns Brothers for any roofing projects you may have. Good job guys!

The sales person Brendon met with me many times to go over all my concerns. The crew (Mike, Steve, Mark) stayed till evening on both days to complete the job. They were friendly. They painted all the panels. Caulked the joints. I wanted caulking to be added to a few more places (butt joints). Brendon said he will send one of his crew to take care of the caulking. Overall I am quite satisfied.

Initial contact was good. Salesman was very friendly and ingratiating. Estimate was high, but I was assured work was necessary and high quality. I had four other estimators, and only one other wanted to replace the flat part of my roof. All, including Kearns, agreed that it did not need to be replaced. But I was assured that the flat part of my roof ne eded to be replaced along with the new shingle roof so that the 50 year warranty would be in effect. So I accepted this assertion, knowing I needed a good warranty . Of course, this added to the cost considerably. My house is only 1600 square feet. I was informed my roof was sagging and that I needed additional work in the attic to correct it. For $ 1200 additional, they would put up cross beams on my roof struts to fix the problem. I wanted a skylight. This was possible, I was told, for $850 additional. When workers began work on attic, I was told that they couldn't do what they had originally said, but would do something else to support the roof. It ended up they put these short boards joining each two roof struts, so that now there are multiple "A's" for the entire length of the attic. These decrease headroom for walking the attic. Everything I had up there, previously sorted, was , of course, moved and piled elsewhere. The attic was not swept or vacuumed afterwards, leaving quite a mess. The roof still sags. I was told post job completion by the salesman that it could not be corrected, and that a certain amount of sag was normal. Work on the roof itself went fairly well. Only one person in the crew spoke English, so questions had to be relayed, person found, etc., during the job. The salesman let me know what trouble he had getting the right size flange for my wood burner roof stack. The roof was completed in one day and the yard was mostly cleaned up afterwards. About the skylight: It was supposed to be in the hall or bathroom, I indicated, whichever was easier for them to install. I wanted natural light in that part of the house. I got a call saying they couldn't put it where I wanted, they would have to move it about one foot further into the bathroom. I indicated this was okay. When I got home to see what the light looked like, I was surprised. There was quite a mess in the bathroom from the celing being opened, but this was minor compared to my disappointment. The skylight was about an 18 inch round that looked like a dim reflection. It basically gives off the light of a 30 watt bulb during midday! When I questioned this, I was informed that, of course it would not be better than that, because the skylight was on the north side!!! When I checked the roof, all vents had been put on the north side, and the skylight is actually in a recess of the roof where it would never catch the light! WHY? Whey would they knowingly put a skylight on the dark side of the roof? The tube for the skylight has two curves into my attic, and takes up the room needed to walk in the attic successfully with the new cross boards taking up head room. I feel mislead and cheated. An $850 skylight that does not give light, made of what appears to be thin pleated aluminum foil taking up my attic work space. The roof appears to be okay; I won't know if it leaks for a while.

They did not order enough materials and thus my job sat with no activity until materials arrived Clean-up should have been better - I found nails in my drive / grass for weeks. Neighbor 'recommended' me to Kearns. There was a $100 referral bonus. They never received the bonus check. I contacted via a personal letter to the owner - never received a reply. I do not like this. It goes towards their credibility.

They were professional and punctual. In the end, we went with a company that provided a significantly lower bid.
