I am still trying to get the counter and sink installed. They made errors when cutting the sink opening and the two pieces of the counter now have a 1/4 inch gap. I am trying to get it resolved but they are making promises to come to my house and don’t show up. Am running out of patience

[Member Name Removed], We are sorry for your trouble. I believe that the incorrect sink was brought to fit in your opening. I have notes regarding how this was to be corrected, and I am currently looking into why you are still waiting at this time. We very much appreciate your patience, and I can assure you I will get to the bottom of this issue today. One of us will be in touch before noon with a resolution.

We were very disappointed with our countertops from Signature Stone Tops (contracted by Lowe's). During the install, the guy repaired a chip on the edge of the countertop and failed to put down a drop cloth and splashed clear epoxy across our brand-new hickory wood floors. The company's response to this was that it was a "normal part of a countertop install". We also told the guy who came to measure that we were getting new appliances so that they would leave 30" of clearance for our new range. After the countertop install, we had our cabinets painted and then got new appliances. Our new range does not fit in the opening (the back of the opening is 30" but the front is less than 30"). We were told that we would have to pay for them to come back and correct this problem and that it was our fault for not having the range on site at the time of install (even though the guy who measured did not tell us this). We have had quartz countertops installed in two previous homes and never had any issues such as this. We are very dissatisfied with this company and would not recommend them to anyone.

Signature Stone Tops did an excellent job on our vanity top. They had a great selection of remnants to choose from at a great price. We are very happy with the way everything turned out and will be back once we renovate our kitchen.

Not well. Looks good now but after 5 visits and my persistence. They are happy to do crappy work unless they are called out on it. Only took a picture of the crappy patchwork. Sorry I don't have the rest of the things that had to be fixed.

[Member Name Removed], I apologize that your experience was not to your satisfaction. I personally visited your home, and I agree that there were some items that were not perfect. As such, I did send a crew to address your concerns. We did end up replacing one piece due to a chip on the front that we did not complete to your satisfaction. The time frame involved was extended in order to accommodate your work schedule, I believe. Regardless, I appreciate that you are dissatisfied. We did install a counter that was not to your satisfaction. However, we also returned and stayed with you 100% until you were happy. We all take pride in our work, and even though things do not always go the way we want every time, we fulfill our obligations. Dan

The repair was done in a timely manner by men who were trustworthy and skilled. Everything looks great now and I am more than happy with the results We are forever grateful for them standing up to the problem and repairing it as well as they did.
Description of Work: Had a problem with plumbing that was done by them 5 years ago. It was in a shower and I was told the people that did the plumbing no longer work for them. Small leak did damage in lower level. I was very happy that they covered the entire fix, which included plumbing, ceiling repair and painting.

Laura helped me search through remnants for the bathroom countertop and found an absolutely beautiful bianco antico remnant that I fell in love with. They cut it to eliminate the one area that was not wanted and undermounted the sink. When our project would up taking much longer than anticipated, they willingly held off installation through several delays. The countertop was installed without the matching backsplash so that we could begin using the sink area. The backsplash delay was caused by a damaged custom cabinet that took six weeks to be replaced. Through all of this, the staff at Signature Stone were wonderful. I even had a question about the backsplash installation and one of the installers came right out to answer my questions and check to see that it was done properly (it was). Six months later when it came time to select kitchen countertops, Signature suggested several granite suppliers to visit to select a full slab since they did not have any remnants that would work for our needs. Laura took the time to discuss pricing, quality, and how they could cut a slab to get what we wanted from one slab and gave me minimum sizes for the slab so I would know what to look for. Once I selected a beautiful slab of Sienna Bordeaux with the assistance of the wonderful people at Mont Granite, the slab was send to Signature Stone for fabrication. I was invited to come in and help layout the template on the granite so that it would be exactly what I wanted. Laura helped work with me to find exactly the sink I wanted. When it was delivered to my home, Signature came out and picked it up and undermounted it for me, at no charge, even though I did not buy it from them. I had an excellent experience working the staff of Signature Stone and would definitely use them again and highly recommend them to anyone.

The granite was poorly installed with many errors. The backsplash leaned away from the wall. Tear out of the existing counter damaged the wall. A gouge was left in a wall corner from fitting the granite. One piece of granite was not glued to the frame. Utility brackets for the bar were installed on the outside of the bar instead of inside as they were designed to be causing new wood veneer being installed. The tile backsplash was never ordered and took over a month to come in and be installed. Twice the granite backsplash was broken taking extra time to fix. . Many of my calls were never returned and I was treated rudely by the office manager. A comment was made to my designer that I was costing them a lot of money. One of the workers arrived 4 hour late. I was told that I should be happy that the errors were fixed and the finished product was acceptable. I was also told that this situation is not uncommon in construction. A job that should have taken 1-2 days took two months. Two industry people, a tile company and a kitchen installation company stated that they would never recommend Signature Stone. My overall experience was frustrating, upsetting and left me with a feeling of helplessness. It seemed to be a perfect storm of one disaster after another.

This review needs to be put into context. First, this project was scheduled for a template on 7/9/13. On 7/22/13 her counters were installed. I (Dan, Owner of Signature) was made aware of an issue after the installation and was scheduled to meet with (removed member name) on 7/26/13. I was greeted by (removed member name) and her brother, who is the tile and kitchen contractor referenced in her review. Her brother showed me his issues with our work. None of the issues were related to the actual counters, but the backsplash and the supports for the raised bar. I agreed that I was not happy with the way the backsplash fit against the wall, the brackets were improperly installed, and I found one small (24”) piece of counter was not caulked. I proposed the following remedy, and Patricia and her brother accepted it: I would personally come in, at the time most convenient to Patricia, and remove the 4" backsplash we had installed and re-install it. I would also make a back panel of matching maple to fit her raised bar and cover the brackets that were visible. I would patch the drywall where it was damaged during the removal of her existing counters. The drywall gouge referenced was approximately the size of a half-dollar coin. There were a couple of places where the paper was torn on the drywall while removing her existing counters that were glued to the drywall. The torn paper areas extended approximately 1/2" from the top of the new backsplash and were 3” long or so. It is clearly stated in our paperwork, which she signed, that minor damage to drywall is to be expected and a small amount of touch-up painting may be necessary after completion. Nothing here was beyond minor, and we corrected it completely. I arrived to perform the work with one of my employees at the scheduled time. The outer skin we installed went beautifully. While removing the 2 pieces of backsplash, I broke one of them. On reviewing the total situation, I gave (removed member name) the option that I would remake the backsplash I had broken along with the other one in the kitchen to be taller. This would cover the area of drywall damage completely along with blending better into the kitchen aesthetically. She agreed it would look better as it would blend more completely into the raised bar. We all agreed that the replacement pieces would be installed when we installed her tile backsplash. Tile backsplash: It was never ordered by Signature, because (removed member name) never ordered it from us. This is clear to me in review, because we require a deposit on special order materials. Her order would have been accompanied by payment which she never made. Regardless, at this point, (removed member name) was unhappy, so I made sure the tile got ordered. It was ordered on 7/26/13 and due in on 8/2/13. Part of the order arrived to our distributor on time, and part was back-ordered due to a product line change at DalTile. Since there was a back-order, I sent somebody to her to install the granite backsplash in lieu of waiting for the tile. That was when the second piece broke while fitting it to the mitered corner at the raised bar. Tile finally came in and I was scheduled to install it on 8/28/13. I did the tile installation and completed the job on 8/28/13. (removed member name) indicated to me at that point that everything was beautiful. She was very pleased with the final result. (removed member name) was invoiced on 8/28/13 for the balance of her project. The invoice went unpaid until 10/18/13 at which point we were short-paid on the job. It was during this period that she had a phone call or two that were not returned until I was able to personally make contact several days later. This lack of immediate response was due to others in my shop waiting for ME to personally address the issue of funds with (removed member name). The comments referenced in the review were taken completely out of context. I made the comment to her several times that while we can and do make errors, we are ALWAYS in for the long haul to correct the problem and make sure the client is happy in the end. This was translated to “I was told that I should be happy that the errors were fixed and the finished product was acceptable. I was also told that this situation is not uncommon in construction”. I did tell her that in remodeling, and any construction, sometimes things happen that we cannot foresee. However, I also in the assured her that we would correct any and all issues she has had to insure that the end result was exceptional. In the end, (removed member name) verbally agreed that the quality of the work we did was exceptional. Her complaint was with the fact that we had an issue at all. Yet, she still gave us a “D” for quality. I will acknowledge that I was not happy with the initial product. However, I personally worked hard to make sure that the quality of our work was excellent and I feel I went above and beyond to try to make (removed member name) happy with Signature Stone Tops. This job took longer than it should have. However, I cannot control a manufacturer’s backorder that was single longest waiting point on the job. When we left the initial installation, (removed member name) had a working kitchen. We never left her without facilities. We were only on the job for parts of 4 days total. The balance was waiting for product to arrive. There were no additional charges to her for anything we did at any time, and the project ended completely on budget. Yet with the issues, (removed member name) took longer to pay her bill than we took to perform the work, and still has not paid us in full for the original quote. Daniel Stein Signature Stone Tops

They were recommended to us and went to look at their remnants in hopes of saving some money. The lady we were supposed to deal with wasn't there so a very competent man (Larry?) helped us. We picked out a piece of a slab we liked and put money down on it. We waited to be contacted by Laura who was supposed to deal with us. No word. We called several times, talking to everyone from the boss to the bookkeeper---NO RETURN CALL from Laura or anyone else. After a few weeks, we went back in. The stone we had put money down on had been cut up and sold. There was only a small piece left but not enough. Laura said it was Larry's fault and he wasn't employed there any longer. They had other granite of that kind but none had the drama of the one we had picked. Laura was so sorry. We waited there and she eventually talked to the boss who said we should go to the wholesaler and pick out one we liked and they would take care of us. We did so and again waited for the call. The slab could only be tagged for 2 weeks. As the end of that period neared, we called Signature Stone. Had they purchased it and transferred it to their facility? No. Nothing had happened. They said again that they had more of that kind of stone and we should look at it. We said we had already done so. The tag was expiring and again Laura didn't call us. No one seemed to know the status of it but Laura would call us, they promised. NO CALL. My husband got firm and demanding with them. Eventually we got a call and went in to see if they had transferred the right piece of granite. They had so we showed a man what we wanted cut (Laura was again there on the premises but not available!) About 2 weeks later, we got a call (not from Laura) that our top was ready. We picked it up and installed it ourselves. It took at least a month longer than it should have and was a constant worry to us. Did they have it right this time? Where was the mysterious Laura and why were we being stone-walled? Were they waiting for us to give up so they wouldn't lose money? Was this stone top going to slow up the whole project? We had changed paint and floor colors once already to accommodate the second piece of granite we chose. What if we had to do it yet again? The boss' heart seemed to be in the right place but it all took so long. I don't think we would go there again although my husband assures me we got a good deal in the end.

[removed member name], I am terribly sorry that your project did not go as planned. I would like to review the job in its entirety and respond to your comments shortly. I Do recall that though you had paid for a remnant, I authorized a full slab to be purchased regardless of cost to me, to make up for our error. the slab cost to me was significantly more than what you paid for the entire project. Again, I will respond shortly in a more complete fashion. Dan Stein Owner/General Manager Signature Stone Tops

Called Signature Stone, as they were recommended by a business acquaintance. Left a message and received a return phone call the same day. Talked with Dan Stein and he gave me a price quote for our kitchen countertop over the phone. Once we decided to use their services, Dan met us at the granite warehouse in Grand Rapids to answer more questions and help us select our granite. We were very impressed right off the bat with Dan's knowledge and professionalism. A few days later, Dan's associate came to our house to measure. Was also very impressed with the gentleman who did the measurements. We were promised installation in 2-3 weeks. In exactly 2 weeks, the installers were putting it in place. The granite is beautiful. We are very pleased with Signature Stone and would use them again ourselves and would happily recommend them to anyone.

Description of Work: I purchased Soapstone counter tops through Dan Stein of Signature Stone. I first met Dan at the GR Home Show and was very impressed with his knowledge of different types of stone. I mainly was looking for a company and someone who was just as interested in the organic feel for my kitchen as I was. Yes, you can get shiny granite anywhere but if you want something different, something that makes your heart smile then call Dan have him show you all the other beautiful stones/products he has available for you. My phone contact was with Lara who was AMAZING to work with. No matter what my concern Lara genuinely cared about me and NEVER made me feel like I was asking too many questions! From the installers to the fabricators to everyone who works for Dan they were all right on! After my Soapstone was installed I had a question about how a corner looked and Dan came out to my house the next day to look at my concern. Since I have never seen anyone's kitchen counters in person done in Soapstone he took the time with me to help me through the process. I highly recommend Signature Stone and Dan.

Filed Complaint with BBB. Signature Stone ( Dan Stein) basically thumbed his nose at the BBB complaint. Had to file a law suit against Signature Stone Tops. Signature Stone settled out of court for exactly what I asked for, which was the return of my $5500 deposit. And in addition, Signature had to pay my legal fees. Over all a very frustrating and unsatisfactory experience. DO NOT USE Signature Stone Tops.
Description of Work: We began working with Mr. Dan Stein, of Signature Stone Tops in March of 2010 on a remodel of your master bathroom and replacement of a counter top in a guest bath. We selected Mr. Stein because he had previously replaced kitchen counters for us. We worked with him to select finishes, colors and materials and got to a point where we were ready to proceed. Project cost was estimated to be in excess of $13,000. Mr. Stein requested a Deposit of $5500.00 to proceed with the project. We gave him a check for that amount on April 28. He cashed the check that day. As we reviewed the information Mr. Stein provided, question began to arise. We asked for clarification and on May 2 emailed him putting the project on hold pending additional information, details and specifications. He provided some additional information but not all requested. On May 19, I responded to Mr. Stein again indicating that he was not performing and ask him specifically for terms and conditions, a project schedule, project scope etc. Mr Stein responded by email as follows: "Doug, I apologize for this. You are absolutely correct. I will get you all of your information TODAY and follow up with a call. Again, My apologies as I have failed to follow through as I would expect a contractor to do for me. I will correct this immediately." We had a subsequent meeting during which I propose drawing ups project scope and specification. He agreed that was a good idea. I sent him a draft of a proposed contract for him to comment on. His only change to the proposed contract was to REMOVE any non-performance penalty. We set a meeting with Mr. Stein at his office on Friday, June 11 at 3:00PM. Not surprisingly he was late. He had no additional information. I told him the relationship was not working, the project had not yet started and we ere terminating the project and relationship. I told him I wanted my deposit back. He said that he didn't have it and would have to check check with Brenda to see when he could give us a check. he apologized to not doing what he promised, that there is no excuse for his poor performance and would we give him another chance. Against my better judgment, I agreed. He also indicated that he had already purchased tile. That was the first we knew of that. On Monday, June 14 Mr. Stein brought some samples to our home, but did not have time to speak with me. The samples were not what was expected. I concluded that Mr. Stein was not able to manage this project based his lack of performance and follow through since he cashed our deposit check. On June 15, I emailed Mr. Stein notifying him that I was terminating the project with him and that I expected a full and unencumbered refund of my $5500.00 deposit which he has had since April 28. He communicated this morning (June 18) that he does not intend to return my deposit, claiming that I ordered the tile. I also has accused me of blackmail and breach of contract (of which there is none, and if there was he clearly voided do to his lack of performance.

Response from SIGNATURE STONE TOPS
[member name removed] commissioned a bathroom remodel by Signature Stone Tops. This included new tile, counters, cabinets, and shower enclosure. After much discussion, the [member name removed] approved a final draft of the design and material selections. At this time, they also paid a deposit for us to begin the process. The deposit was to cover the costs of materials procured on their behalf as well as labor associated with beginning the job. Signature Immediately ordered the special order tile for his project as it was the most uncertain of the products in the project with regard to delivery lead-time. When [member name removed] decided that he wanted to move in another direction, he did request a refund of his deposit. At this time, I offered him a refund of the unused portion of his deposit along with free delivery of his tile. He refused to pay for the special order tile, and filed a BBB complaint. I responded to the BBB complaint with a repeat of my offer to refund his deposit less cost of the special order material we had procured for him. This was deemed unacceptable by him. (the material ordered was itemized in his quote we had long since agreed on prices for this product) At this point, [member name removed] filed suit to recover his deposit in full. I did return his deposit and agree to settle in order to simply move on. The special order tile is still in my inventory 2 years later as it was non-returnable with my vendor. Signature Stone Tops is committed to client satisfaction, which is why we did offer immediately to return the UNUSED portion of his deposit. [member name removed], however, had decided that Signature should pay for his change of heart regarding the job by absorbing the cost of the materials he had already ordered. I am truly sorry we could not come to better resolution for him, but setting his inflammatory statements aside, we simply purchased the materials he requested, and insisted he be required to pay for what he had purchased. In the end, I find it a shame that [member name removed] feels the need to compound this situation by further attempting to damage my reputation on venues such as this. We do strive for 100% satisfaction, and our percentage is quite good. Clearly we missed the mark on this one.
