We at North Wind are extremely sad this situation turned into a lawsuit. I am suing this person NOT because of a 1 star review, that once again is the furthest from the truth!!! I am suing since she never paid for service and then put lies all over the internet because she wanted something for free and was not getting it! I have spent several thousands of my own money and many hours out of my life trying to solve this without pursuing a lawsuit, that was my last thing we wanted. I requested over and over for her to take down the lies and we would be done, write a review but keep it truthful. You should not be able to lie over and over in your review to effect a companies reputation, just because you did not get something for free, she DID NOT want to pay. Then after all the money and time my lawyer finds out her brother in-law is a Clinton Township judge and she does this all the time when she does not get her way - A DIRECT QUOTE from her own family member.. SEVERAL of own family members contacted me to tell this is ongoing with her, she takes advantage of people all the time..becasue she has connections. She has effected my life, my health and my business due to her untruthful actions, all we requested is for her to speak the truth. But I guess that is optional these day for people? North Wind is an honest and caring company, we go out of our way for customers read our reviews and you will see the truth, from customers we have had for over 27 years!!!!!! Our customers know we are the honest, hard working, fair company they have known for 30 years!!! We have inspectors tell us all the time our work is the best in the area they have ever seen, we do quailty work and we do our job with pride, that is why I filed a lawsuit because no one should just get to slander your company with so many untruths, just because she feels like it, there should be accountabilty!!!!!!

It's good. Very polite, professional. There was one worker. It took about 15 minutes to complete. Very clean. They basically just shut the gas off. They said "You have a broken pipe". Shut the line off and charged me $190. It was a cracked dryer line so I replaced it for $15. It's because the tenants smelled gas and it needed to be fixed right away and I live an hour away. It was very faint odor. He told me it had been leaking for probably a year. He used a new machine to test it. He would've replaced it for more money and would've had to come back again so I just replaced it myself for $15. It's one of the flex pipes. You screw it on and screw it off. That's it.
Description of Work: I use them on my rental. They came and did some repairs. They did the repair on the unit.

I think this person might of had someone else out, I pulled our records and I do not have that address nor that name on file. That price is not our normal service call fee, so we would not have charged $190.00 to come out. Our service call fee is $103.00 during normal business hours. We have no fee of $190.00 even after hours.

I called on June 8th Monday to see if I could get a hot water tank replaced. I needed pricing and opinions on different options, but mainly needed one asap, as our hot water tank was leaking and pretty much bit the dust!! I spoke with Carrie and explained my situation, and within an hour she had called back with options, and pricing info for us to choose from. She said she could have someone out on Friday the 12th, but I explained that we would not be home and needed it done by Thursday the 11th latest. She juggled things around in their schedule to accommodate us and sent her guys out on Thursday as requested. Carrie was a life saver, very knowledgeable, very courteous and professional, and worked everything out to our needs. The men that came out and did the work were also helpful, professional, and knowledgeable. They removed the old tank, replaced it with the new one, took the old tank with them, and cleaned everything up as though nothing happened. (Sorry I don't remember their names). We are very pleased with the whole outcome and would definitely use them again in the future.

I have used this company for a number of years. They are prompt, courteous and professional. This was the largest project I have contracted with them but the result was consistent with their previous fine work and the furnace is working just as they said it would. The house is very comfortable with the temperature balanced throughout the house.

The serviceman found everything okay, so we called the gas company and discovered (!) that our gas had been turned off because the people downstairs had moved out of their condo. Apparently the meters were misnumbered and we had been paying their bill and they'd been paying ours for TEN years. The North Wind man was very professional, but there was nothing he could do about the problem. I almost wished I could call him up and explain because it was so ridiculous.

The gentleman who came to inspect our air conditioning unit was very friendly and courteous. He re-filled the freon levels, checked filters and said that everything seemed to be working fine. He also told us that we may have a leak but don't know how bad until the next time we get it checked. If we ever experience an actual problem with our condenser, I would definitely consider North Wind Heating and Air for the job.

We know that our HVAC is on it's last leg and wanted to prolong it's life as much as possible. The tech came early, he performed all of the services in the deal, and we ended up needing a fair amount of coolant put in the system (the system is honestly almost as old as me) so he did that at a fair cost.
Description of Work: We got this as an Angie's List deal, it was for HVAC inspection and tune up, we also had a programmable thermostat installed.

I wrote an A+ review on the service we received on 10/13/13 from Northwind Heating and Air when I placed a service call for a fall cleanup but discovered the same day that the furnace would not come on. Even though we had a new ignitor installed and tested during that visit, only a day or two later the furnace still would not produce heat. After calling Northwind to inform them that we again did not have heat, Ed came right out to reassess the problem. After discussing all of the options and weighing the costs associated with the various options, we decided to purchase a new high efficiency furnace. This A+ review is for the installation of a brand new 120,000 BTU 96% Comfortmaker furnace that was installed expertly and efficiently only a day or two after we told Ed we wanted a new one. Overall the installation and service and customer care from Northwind Heating was EXCELLENT!! Ed is extremely knowledgeable--he explained what was wrong with the old furnace, as well as a number of options to either repair our old furnace or purchase a new one. He showed great initiative and follow-through and went way beyond the call of duty by contacting the manufacturer on our behalf and getting a huge discount that we could use toward a new furnace for us! That combined with the installation of our new furnace and the work they did on our behalf related to the Detroit Edison rebate and permit with the township are just a few reasons why they are THE BEST! Thank you so much for the value-added services and quality work that you provided to us here in Harrison Township--we only wish that you provided service in Gaylord, MI where our second home is located. We are now having heating problems up there and unfortunately we have not yet found a contractor that meets our satisfaction--any plans to expand your company:) Ed, Carrie--all the best to you and your family in the coming year!

The following reasons contribute to my continued high rating of this contractor, they: - arrived on time - removed the old furnace and carefully inspected it for possible signs of failure - re-installed the new furnace - tested the new furnace - cleaned up the area after the installation - credited us for the igniter part that they had installed two days earlier - talked to the manufacturer and got us about a $600 credit because the furnace failed short of it's expected life of 20 years (16 years) - processed a Detroit Edison rebate of $400 for the installation of high efficiency furnace - offered to come back when the weather gets colder to assess the air flow problems we experienced in recent years which results in radically different temperatures from room to room. - told us that they would call with a permit number for the furnace installation

I thought it was a great experience. They kept their word on the timing, how long it would take, and they worked out a price for me that I could afford. They did a good job, cleaned up the mess, etc. One thing they did above and beyond was they loaned me heaters to keep me and my family warm while we were waiting for the new furnace. It was excellent.

Ed arrived just about 1/2 hr after I called to request svs (it was after 1am, so I was very appreciative). Found the problem immediately and had it fixed within 10 minutes. He also advised me to watch the condition of the hot wtr heater as it's an older one and just keep an eye on it. Very friendly and professional - would definitely recommend this company!

From beginning to end, the service technician was on time, professional, and skilled. He explained what he was going to do and then answered my questions when the job was completed. Through Angie's list I had used this company to do a complete A/C tune-up and didn't hesitate to call them back to check my furnace/hot water heater. I started the day by subscribing to Angie's List because I wanted to get our furnaces at our primary residence cleaned and checked prior to using them. I spent time taking down notes for the contractors from the website that I was going to call when I noticed that it was pretty cold in the house. I went to turn the furnace on and started making some calls and then after a while I noticed that the furnace had not yet turned on. When I called North Wind Heating and Air Conditioning and explained that I wanted a fall checkup for both furnaces at our house, but that my furnace may have a problem since it had not yet turned on yet. She put me on hold and after only a few minutes on the line I was thrilled to learn that they had a technician near by and that he had just finished a job and was heading to Lake Orion for another job. They ended up readjusting the schedule and a technician arrived within 15 minutes! It turned out that the technician was in fact the owner of the company. He was filling in for one of his employees that was out sick. He was wonderful--so professional--he got right to work and within minutes he found the problem--a bad ignition. He showed me that due to dirt and some bees and bugs, that can wreak havoc with this ignition part, it can cause an electrical arc which then burns out the ignition. He had the needed part on the truck, he made the repair, cleaned the furnace thoroughly--tested everything, offered to order me a filter that is hard to find in the retail market and then started on the second furnace that he cleaned and tested. The price was very reasonable--$73 for the first furnace checkup and cleaning and he only charged $50 for the second furnace checkup and cleaning. The bad ignition part was $77 the service call that came with an hour of labor was $125. The whole bill was only $325--which for late Saturday service is great! He cleaned up after himself with a shopvac that he brought with him and left me with a fully clean and operational furnace and a house that was warming up nicely from a chilly 55 degrees! The service that I received today was second to none! Nice work all around--I learned that he and his wife started this business 22 years ago and from what I saw today, they could give lessons in providing quality customer service to many other businesses. If you are within 75 miles of the Detroit area in any direction and need heating/cooling service--call North Wind--they provide top-notch service at reasonable prices with work performed by technicians that just ooze with professionalism and customer service!!

Description of Work: Talk... talk... talk. 95% of what happened between this company and myself has been verbalized - none of which holds up in court. Because I have communicated the events that have transpired with these people, I have been contacted by their attorney threatening legal action. The bottom line is, this has been down right the worst possible experience I have ever had with any contractor. I have felt like I've been in a boxing ring for the last six months for speaking up and relaying the events as they have occurred honestly. These people have the resources, financially and legally, to manipulate the situation - and they have. I have one suggestion and that's it - anger management. THIS IS AS TRUE AND ACCURATE AS IT GETS.

This customer was given a unit for a competive price and also finianced the unit out of a favor (even though we do not offer finanincing) she had her boss call my office and speak with us to let us know she owns a rental house and Member's system needs to be replaced and Member does not have money to replace the system and it is the winter months so her renters have no heat. Out of the kindess of our heart she was financed on a 10 month payment plan out of those 10 months 6 payments were declined by her credit card and 3 payments she called to tell us she did not have the money. During that time WE NEVER had called her in a cross manner or augumentive way when her payment was not made on time or declined. She then calls the office on June 26th we were out to her rental house for a service call that afternoon. TOOK PICTURES of the severly clogged unit, I the owner she speaks of called her as soon as I found out the severe damage (by the way cotton wood season only last 1 month, she speaks of it only being a month of running in 2012...It had been 2 season never cleaned and the unit was not able to breathe so she overheated the unit due to lack of maintance. I called and explained this to her that day!!! She was well aware of everything when we hung up the phone but the unit was running and I told her it could happen because it was ran so long when the unit did not have any air flow to it so the unit COULD fail again, she was made aware of everything. She calls back on July 2nd and we get out there THAT SAME DAY by noon!! I then called her and informed her immdiantly of the situation and the price was not $600.00 it was $200.00 to replace the tubes but also informed her the compressor could possibly burn up to becasue the unit was never maintained and it was a very bad clogg on her unit. She then wanted to know why it was not covered under warrenty and I explained to her this has NOTHING to do with North Wind Heating, it is the manufactor who is deneid the claim. She kept yelling and yelling that she thinks they should cover it, I spent 3 hours on the phone offf and on with the wholesale house we purchased the unit from, with the tech support of the manufactor and the warrenty division of the manufactor and they said no. This is NOT North Wind's doing and I explained all that to her. She wanted a phone number to the manufactor it was over the 4th of July and it did take 2 days to track a consumers nubmer down for her so she could not have to deal with going from person to person. So I took the time out of my business and tracked it down for her. By this time she had hired a new contractor who came, she told him nothing about what had already happened and never explained about the cotton woods, the wholesale house then called us when they ran the serial number ont he unit and reconfirmed the information. So now again she is upset with North Wind which once again has nothing to do with us, we spoke the truth. and now we are being blamed. I have gone out of my way for this women from the beginning and I have gone out of my way to try to get them to cover it and since it was so obvious as to why the part failed they denied it. For the record I also have had not done any of that stuff about threating to pull my sales or calling her boss. I am surprised at the length of lies she has said to make us look bad. Then to give me all F's, when we installed the unit and did all those favors she thought we were the greatest company on earth. But now that she has done wrong and no body with pay for her mistake Member decides to attack one of the good guys.....well shame on you and I hope one day the favor is returned to you. Because I have amazing customer service for many people, we come out when it is 2:00a.m, and your funaces is broke down, we come on Christmas when a family wakes up and does not have heat. I have stopped everything because a 92 year old women;s air is out and she can't breathe or family has brought home a premmie baby and their air stopped working so either we get out there right now or she has to take the baby back to the hospital. I spent 3 hours trying to help you out of my time and you put a report on that is 92% lies. Again shame on you for not accepting responsibilty for your mistakes.

I received an Angie's List e-mail with a coupon for an A/C inspection for $59. Since we wanted our A/C inspected and tuned up, I thought this was a great opportunity. I purchased the Angie's List coupon and received an e-mail from North Wind the following morning, confirming the city where I live and asking for my availability. I was very impressed on how quickly THEY contacted ME! I had made my appointment for the following Monday, then realized a day later that I would not be available. North Wind was very accommodating and rescheduled me for Thursday at a more convenient time. They gave me a two hour window to expect the North Wind employee to arrive, which is very reasonable. The North Wind employee arrived within the time expected and was very friendly. He inspected my furnace (our house is 70 years old and the furnace is original) and I was relieved to hear him say that I probably won't have to ever replace the furnace, just parts over the years. He inspected the A/C unit outside, cleaned it, topped off the freon at no additional charge. He was done within 20 minutes.

We were very pleased with North Wind. The technician (whose name I unfortunately forgot) arrived right on time and was extremely personable and likeable...with a great sense of humor to boot. He got down to business right way and neither of us even knew he was on the premisis until he was finished and ready to leave. Based on the detailed instructions/information he gave us before leaving, we both felt better educated, having found out about some things that we did not know, even from the installer of our unit (which was just 2-1/2 years ago).
Description of Work: The service as stated was to be an 18-point inspection of our air conditioning unit.
