Hoover Electric, Plumbing, Heating And Cooling

We had Hoover out twice, the first time being in October. They tried to charge me over $400 to vent a dryer (got it done by another provider for $100). They claimed our main sewer line needed to be cleaning and priced us at $375 (we found a deal for $160, however it didn't even need to be done!) I called to complain and the owner tried to claim that being a big company they need to charge a lot more and so he gave me a $160 credit on my account). I decided to give them another chance and had them out on December 23rd to replace a bathroom sink faucet. I bought my own at Home Depot for $12 and not only did the guy show up a half hour late, he wanted to charge me $248! I am no idiot and many people may not realize it but that is BEYOND ridiculous! I got that done for $50 by another provider. The plumber from Hoover tried to claim their prices are so high because of liability and blah blah blah. NONSENSE!!! Customers are not responsible for liability costs and what not. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY! This is price gouging at its worst.

This was a "special deal" to fix a running toilet. I believe the cost was $77.00, but the contractor did not mention the special but used that amount as what we had paid toward his service. We also had a shower head that continually dripped. We felt his work was high quality, and he did fix both problems. We realize neither was plumbing brain surgery, but we felt the promptness, professionalism and a job well done all earned Hoover a top rating. You can't expect contractors to work for peanuts and still be happy about what they do. We would call Hoover again.

Setting up the appointment went without a hitch. Appointment stated it would between 9am - noon and that they would call me when the workers were on their way. Noon went by and I had not received a call so I reached out to the provider (approx 12:20pm). After talking to one of the receptionists she stated they were just about to call the field worker and someone would give me a call back. Approximately 1:00pm I received a call from the field worker who stated that they would be to my house within the hour. Approximately 1:45pm field worker arrived at my home. Worker was at my house for approximately 45 minutes - ran his tests and did some cleanup. During the inspection the worker notices the evaporator pad could use replacing but did not have any in his truck but did suggest me getting one at Home Depot. Worker was professional - wore the booties to keep the house clean. Pricing for the 22-Point Winter Furnace Inspection and Cleaning was reasonable. Outside of the Angie list deal I was looking at having a thermostat installed that the gas company provided me - worker quoted me $99 for the installation which I thought was kind of high so I passed on having that service performed.

The problem is that I had bought one guy and the one guy had gave me the run around for like three or four months. You guys gave me the second guy and second guy came and did a good job. He did a good job. No additional costs. He was a real nice guy.

First lets start with what I purchased. Two hours of labor for any services dealing with electrical and heating and cooling. The service man came out and was very prompt upon his arrival , we indicated that our furnace and central air unit were not turning on and that our garage and outdoor electrical sockets were not working. The service man looked at the furnace and indicated to us that are motor had blown on our furnace so he went back out to his truck got on the phone and came back with a quote of $800 to fix a broken furnace motor. We also had an hour and 15 to 20 minutes left for him to do labor which is what we paid for. The serviceman looked at our outlet ( just one) on the outside garage which is connected to the outside sockets and indicated that it will cost us an additional $89 for him to replace one GCFI. My husband felt so ripped off by this guy only wanting to do a quote and not actually wanting to do any work. A friend casually asked if I had the DTE appliance service plan. So the next day I called DTE a totally different company comes out looks at the furnace and the central air unit . Called Lenix and gets a furnace blower ordered and delivered comes back and installs it at no cost because we have the DTE appliance service agreement. More important our motor on our furnace was absolutely and totally not broken. We were being overcharged by Hoover and would never use them again I feel ripped off my very first time contacting Angie's list with this problem , calling this company and paying for service they would not provide. I feel like they had no plans on performing any services for the money I spent they just wanted to come out to show good face and they did not even do that horrible horrible horrible this is my first time using Angie's list and I think that I am going to cancel my membership. I am so upset that this man came out and wasted my families time and money. We wanted to find a good reputable electrician to do electrical stuff around the house that we just simply cannot do ourselves and these people were not trustworthy.

technician/plumber was very pleasant, curteous and professional. got in, did the job and cleaned up afterwards. I will use this company again.

The plumber was nice enough and very professional. He did do the work on the shower drain and removed the water filter in the kitchen. However, as planned, we started with the backup sump pump. Here the big issue was that he barely touched it and quickly said that we needed a new backup sump pump. He immediately proceeded to call his office to discuss getting a new estimate for us to have a new sump pump installed. While that could have been a helpful move, we felt that too much time was spent on that, rather than doing some of the plumbing work itself. We definitely felt that suggesting a new backup pump should not have been the first recommendation. And, it really made no sense to us that we would need to replace it, as we had not had for a lot of years and it had rarely if ever had to kick in. We simply did not trust the recommendation. Afterwards, we obtained a second opinion from another plumber who told us that there was nothing wrong with the current pump. So, we contacted Hoover Electric to express our frustration. The manager agreed to refund half of the amount that we had paid for the service. That seemed reasonable, so we are pretty pleased with that. Still, it was not preferable that we had to pay another plumber to come out for a second opinion.

They did a big job in upgrading our metrical grid because one of our amps blew at 60 and they put in a new one that generated about 100 so this saved us some money on our electrical bills. I thought the price was a little bit steep.

He was very professional and thorough. Came back the following week when additional problems were encountered.

Plumber spent about 15 minutes replacing a washer. When I informed him that I had prepaid on Angie's List he said that there were additional costs because of overhead. I questioned the sincerity of the costs (it appeared that this service was being treated similar to an insurance repair). No way can I ever recommend this company as the cost/time is not justifiable. I felt ripped off. Please note that the washer that was replaced is on the bathtub faucet, easy access and fairly easy for an experienced plumber with tools. This was a valuable learning experience for using a service that I thought was more reputable (angie's list in screening its service providers).

He spent 1 hr. at my house and wrote up a very high-priced estimate and did no work. I would have liked at least the job started. I would've gladly paid for materials if they were extra. I ended up getting another estimate and saved almost $1000 from an independent electrician. he wrote in the $120 discount/amount i paid upfront to Angie's List for the Big Deal into the estimate. Was not expecting that.

He was great. He came and fixed my leaking sink, and while he was here, he gave me a quote for a garbage disposal which I though was over-priced.

It went really well. They are excellent I would use them again and again!

They opened it up and checked it. It was ok. I used the Big Deal soon after I purchased it. The only issue is another provider offered a Big Deal on Angie's List for the same service cheaper, later on.

Went very well. He connected a flex gas line to my existing gas line in the basement and ran it up to the kitchen to where my new gas stove would go. He also installed the gas connector with shut off at the stove location. I would recommend this company to my family.

It went very well. They gave me some really good details about how to be efficient with my heater as well. There was cost over the inspection. It was I think $20 or $30 if I remember correctly. There was a humidifier moisture gather or something that needs to be replaced.

Cost was $170 to replace flappers in 3 toilets. Repair was quick and I feel quite expensive for the simplicity but would use the company again.

That was good but I paid more money. They were very friendly and the office is good.

We moved into our house 11 years ago and put in a garbage disposal in the kitchen sink with problems connecting the waste line which runs horizontally. It is galvanized pipe and had two no-hubb fittings connecting the sink drain to the waste line. A couple of weeks ago I snaked out the galvanized line and a leak developed right before Thanksgiving Day so we put a pan under it to catch the drip and on Monday I tried to fix the drip by cutting off the galvanized pipe and reconnecting the drain, but it still leaked and I could see deterioration in the pipe. Somewhere in the process I bumped a hot water supply valve and it started leaking from the compression fitting and the valve bonnet. I knew in addition to fixing the waste line I wanted new valves put in so on Tuesday I purchased a Big Deal from Angie's List for two hours of service for $144.00. Paul showed up on Thursday as scheduled and began by assessing the situation. Since I work nights and was still in bed my wife came and told me the results of the assessment and the only surprise to me was the need to replace the kitchen faucet and that the waste line could be so economically. After about three hours I went back to bed while Paul finished up. When I got home after work I looked under the sink and found that Paul had replaced the outlet from the garbage disposal and turned the unit around to facilitate keeping the drain plumbing toward the back of the cabinet and that it goes horizontal rather than vertical. I will definitely use them again.

The tech was very nice, professional, timely, and competent. He did a great job.

They did not contact me until 2 days after paying for service. When they came out to perform service, they advised they could not do because there equipment was down and they were short 2 staff. Said they were sorry and recommended another company. I am not sure why they accepted the service in the first place.

They were very nice, but I had a family member install my dishwasher.

One technician named Kevin came out and completed the job in about an hour and a half. He was very nice and professional. My husband primarily dealt with the technician. We were both very pleased with what he did. He arrived on time to the appointment and we had no problem scheduling the service.

Repair went well. Tub drain no longer leaks. Kevin, the plumber, was very personable, and worked quickly to fix the plumbing problem.
