Advance Asphalt

Repair went as expect, but they tried to overcharge me for sealing. The company over-estimated the square footage of my driveway (it's about 5,000 sq ft, they said 7500 sq ft). When I questioned that, I was told they would remeasure when they came to do the sealant. They did, but when I asked how many sq ft it was, the man told me that he could only give that number to the asphalt company!! So I called and asked the co-owner who had done the original measurements to come back and measure again. She did, but, again, was about 50% over!! (I pulled out the original plans for our driveway and remeasured myself. It was right around 5,000 sq ft.) When I again questioned them, I was told that they use a SPECIAL CONTRACTOR'S WHEEL that allows them to more 'accurately' determine the amount of product needed. No such thing as a 'special' contractor's wheel!! They are manufactured to be as accurate as possible... and, since they charged me by the square footage, the price they asked was 50% over!! I was supposed to pay the balance owed when the sealant was done, but when they finished and asked for payment, I told them that I would pay the asphalt company directly (the company doesn't even do their own work - they contract it out!) I simply paid only 2/3 of the amount they were asking, and they cashed the check. Then they hounded me for months - phone calls, letters from attorney, etc. I finally called and told them that I would love to go to court... and hear them explain to the judge about their 'special' contractor's wheel. They quit harassing me soon thereafter!

We interviewed several different asphalt/driveway installers, including Advance All were very good, but Advance offered us the best value when we looked at the work they were going to provide for the offered price. While it took a while to get our appointment confirmed, when Dave Ottman came out with his crew, they did a very good, very professional job. They had very professional equipment and clearly knew what they were doing. They were very careful, very nice, and did a great job. They prepared the base by filling in holes, leveling the old driveway surface, applied a special glue so the asphalt would stick to the surface and applied new material. They worked around the rock wall and plants that lined the driveway without damaging anything. At then end, they cleaned up after themselves, and we ended up with a great looking driveway. Overall, we give them 5 stars.

Ottman Advance Asphalt was phenomenal!! They were professional, responsive, on time, clean, efficient and installed one of the best driveways I have ever seen. Pricing was very competitive. I would highly recommend this company for any project - large or small. They work throughout the SE Michigan area
