From the estimator to the installers - it was a great experience. The teams were polite, professional, constantly working, and very tidy. The customer service representative also helped me file the appropriate paperwork for an utility company rebate. I am very pleased and as a result, I have referred my neighbors.

Everything went very smoothly. I met with Gerry for an estimate. We walked through exactly what I wanted and he made suggestions for getting the results I wanted. He gave me a price immediately on the spot. This was the third or fourth estimate I had received and he had the best combination of responsiveness, price, features and availability, so we scheduled the work on the spot for the next week. The entire process was completed in a day. They sprayed all of the walls, as well as dealing with the cantilever on each end of the lower level, and sprayed different foam around each window, door and any other spots that weren't covered by the main foam. From my untrained but nit-picky eye, they seemed to do a very good job. Cleanup was extremely good as well: there was no real overspray of any kind (except a couple of pipes that were outside of but very close to the wall), and no sign of any debris from the attic insulation or soffit vents. I would highly recommend The Insulation Man for your insulation project.
Description of Work: Installed 2" of spray foam (R21) insulation in the upper part of the lower level (tri-level), and on the crawl space walls, installed insulation baffles throughout the attic, replaced the fiberglass attic insulation where it had been removed as part of a kitchen remodel and installed 14 soffit vents.

They encased all recess lights in foam enclosures added soffit baffles and installed roof-mounted vents for our bathroom fans. They also spray foamed the rim-joist in our basement. As part of the job they also performed an energy audit using a blower door and infrared photography to identify any sources of air infiltration. In the summer cooling season, we found the second floor temperature dropped by about 2 degs. relative to the first floor. My only issue with them is the small amount of foam over-spray that landed on our finished basement floor. More protective drop cloths could have prevented that.
Description of Work: We had them up our attic insulation to R-48 using blown-in insulation.

I Was disappointed at first as I was assured by Audrey that their team "Always calls when they are on their way". No call was given before their arrival. The team was nice and courteous though. They performed the work involved by removing existing insulation and spray foaming the area. I was disappointed that they did not cover any of the existing plumbing, duct work, etc. This resulted in the three sillcocks being sprayed with foam. There appears to be a small area that was missed as well as I found some fiberglass insulation still stuff between two closely spaced joists. All in all it was a positive experience, but I guess I was a little disappointed at some of the little details considering I hired professionals to do the work.

They spray foamed the basement rim joist, added insulation to the attic, vented all bathroom fans to the ridge vent, added insulated recessed light covers, and insulated a bedroom wall in the attic. The price was a lot more than I expected, but they were competitive with other estimates I got. They went over the entire house. I had them look for any problems with the current insulation. I was having a humidity problem and wanted to make sure everything was sealed. They were very professional and friendly. Audrey was very friendly and helpful with getting any rebates. They cleaned up any mess they made. Overall it went very well.

Job was scheduled, then rescheduled, but only after I agreed - no problem. The two-man team arrived on time and were unfailingly pleasant, courteous, and professional. The were very nice as I explained my concerns about the details of the job and my concerns all were addressed. Although I had cleared the area adjacent to the walls, they still covered some of my goods with plastic, covered the floor by the walls to be foamed with a heavy paper, and installed cardboard in several places to protect areas and plumbing that weren't to be sprayed. Approximately 40' of return air duct runs parallel to one wall, and is less than one foot from the wall. The estimator had cautioned me that this would be a difficult area to insulate and difficult to treat neatly. He would only assure me of "best effort". That turned out to be more than good enough. Although it was difficult, that area has been well sealed and insulated and the job was done more neatly than I expected. It's is all higher than any ceiling might be if the basement is finished, so mox nix. When the job was done, they walked me around and answered all of my questions. And they did an excellent job of cleaning up afterwards. Only 52' of my total 160' of basement walls were insulated beforehand, and (ignoring the rim joist area just done) the insulating of the end walls increased that only to 91'. Despite that, and with no other changes, the ambient temperature of the basement has risen from 58 to 62 degrees. Wall temperature in the foamed areas rose by 20 to 24 degrees! I am very happy with the work done. ***** UPDATE ***** Outside temp is 0F, basement temp is holding at 60F (living area is 68F). There is a place where I can measure foam surface temp only two inches from the concrete on which it sits. Wall: 19F. Foam: 58F. See pics.
Description of Work: 1) remove old fiberglass insulation from cantilevered joist bays, 2) spray foam insulate those joist bays, 3) spray foam insulate rim joist and sill plate area around entire basement perimeter, 4) spray foam insulate the majority of two basement end walls.

.These were very professional workers. They knew their business. They were very neat and cleaned up after themselves. Once done they had all the paper work for me to sign for my rebate which they processed for me. I took the suggestions of the auditor and did what I was required to do. He came back after the job was completed to test my heat efficiency again. A 50% improvement was noted! As a result I will receive an 850.00 rebate!
Description of Work: My house was first audited for heat efficiency. An involved process was done, including infra red pictures of heat loss which was provided me. A suction fan was locked into my front door. It was then that the auditor showed me where the air was coming into my house. The diagnosis: More insulation in attic, caps put around my recessed lighting, more vents in attic for circulation, joist insulation where basement meets house. He as well showed me where heat was escaping under my window sills. He suggested chalking and insulation around my sockets as well as child proof outlet caps. I had originally thought I needed wall insulation but he said that his recommendations would be all that I needed . Depending upon the final reading after the job was completed I was entitled to a rebate from Consumers Energy of a min. of 750.

The Insulation Man was okay. The guy came out and used his infrared camera to take a bunch of stuff. He was supposed to provide a written report on everything he found and he really didn't do that. It was only partial useful, I didn't get a lot of information coming back so I walked around with him, saw what he was doing but he was supposed to send me a report on it so that I didn't have to take a bunch of notes while he was going around and I never got the report. It was somewhat useful but not totally. I would never do it again, it just wasn't worth it. It wasn't an expensive service. The guy came out here and do what he did, it was certainly a reasonable thing, it's just the follow through was not what I was hoping for. He came out on time and came out when he was asked to come out.

This went well and was part of DTE rebate program to improve energy efficiency. Most of the cost was returned to me by DTE. No problems with crew. Foam was installed without a mess in the basement. Representative from Insulation Man checked the work as did a rep from DTE. The only thing I would do differently is to get an energy audit from an independent business rather than from a company that has an interest in doing certain work. That would have given me information about the DTE efficiency program from a more objective view. Overall, though, it was a good thing. Glad to have this done.

When I called in late November or early December we were having unusually warm temps and he suggested I wait till the weather turned colder to do the scans. Ok, I agreed, although I would have liked to have the audit so I could have performed any needed corrections before the weather turned bad. I called in early January, when the weather was finally our usual cold, to schedule the scan and I had to wait a couple of weeks because he was backed up with jobs. He came out at the designated time and did the scan. It took about 15 minutes for each house. He walked through each of the rooms and took an Infrared image of the windows doors and outside walls. One house had a great review with usual batting insulation in walls and blown cellulose in ceiling. The other house in discussion before the scan, I mentioned I had foam blown into the outside walls and blown in cellulose in the ceiling and an insulated crawl space. That house came up with cold spots in the corners of the scans on outside walls. He said this was a bad job. This was confusing to me because the heating bills on the house with the blown in foam, where I live, had dropped about 35% and the sound from outside was cut by at least 50%, so I know the foam was doing what was advertised. The next week someone from the company was calling, leaving a message on my voicemail, wanting to schedule an insulation quote. Probably not unusual, but under the circumstances a little strange, because with blown in foam, there isn't any room to add anything else as it hardens after it cures. While probably a worthwhile service, it wasn't something I would probably have done again. I am very please with the blown in foam in my house but the other house with the traditional insulation, where the scan indicated no cold drafty areas, people who use it say it has cold spots. Go figure.
Description of Work: I purchased two coupons for Infrared Energy Scan of two of my houses.

The company was fantastic. I received a comprehensive energy audit of my home and had explained to me some points of deficiency. The inspector was incredibly respectful, professional, and a great representative for the company. The only reason I did not have the insulation and attic fan installation performed was that it did not fit into my budget. I'd certainly like to have the service done in the future.

Things went as expected, the walk through and discussion took about an hour and I had the information I needed to move forward with a plan.
Description of Work: Walked through the house assessing places in the home that need insulation. Recess lighting was a big issue. I called for an estimate based on the previous Angie's List reviews and scheduled a convenient time. Tom came out not just on time, but called to let me know he could come earlier if I was available. He explained exactly what they needed to do and worked out a price based on the size of the job and gave me a great price as a new home owner. He was very friendly and impressive so I booked a time for the job to be completed. The team that showed up was the best group of guys who were smiling and whistling while they worked. They even helped me move my ceiling tiles without question (which was my responsibility to prepare for them) and kept my basement clean from excess foam. They had the best attitude and made sure I got the correct form for my energy rebate. I would recommend The Insulation Man for any job from attic to basement!
Description of Work: The city suggested I insulate the rim joist around my house to keep my energy costs low in the winter. This included spray foam insulation on the inside wood joist above the ceiling tiles in the basement.

The quote went real well, straight forward. Didn't talk bad about competitors products. Gave me a great price compared to competitors. They scheduled me right away and showed up on time. I wanted R60 instead of the quoted R49, Tom didnt have enough of his standard insulation so he upgraded me to premium for the same price. The crew had it together. I could tell they tool pride in their work. They put insulation in areas that were hard to get to and took measures to make sure the insulation stayed in place. They cleaned up after theirselves. They put and air seal around my attic access door since it was warped. The crew even thanked me for the work. Overall it was a great experience and I would not hesitate to have them do more work for me.

We had made an appointment for this company to come give us an estimate for blown-in insulation in a bedroom on our second floor. The day of the appointment the salesman called and said we were" too far away and besides, if your house was built after 1995 it probably has insulation and there is nothing we can do." Effectively canceling the appointment. It was a big disappointment because we really wanted to have a professional evaluation of what was happening in this area of our house and how it might be corrected.

Jerry from Insulation Man surveyed our overall insulation situation in late November 2012. Our home was built in 1977 and had never had any additional insulation work performed. Using an infra-red camera he highlighted areas where heat was escaping both in the ceilings and also at the rim-joists in the basement. He recommended additional blown-in insulation in the attic spaces to bring the level up from the original R19 to R50. He also recommended spray foam insulation for the rim-joists in the basement. The quoted estimate was $2,805 with an estimated rebate from Consumers Energy of around $800. In early December, an energy auditor conducted a thorough audit and generated a detailed report on the "tightness" of the house. Several days later the installation team arrived to install both the blow-in and foam insulation. There was a minor "hiccup" when the foam insulation truck that was dispatched was incompatible with the electrical service in our house, so that portion of the installation had to be delayed several days until the proper truck could be sent. Other than that, the entire installation went smoothly with each portion taking about two hours for a two-man team. About two weeks following the completion of the installation, a second energy audit was performed to take a new reading on the "tightness" of the house. About one month following the completion of the second audit, our rebate check of from Consumers Energy arrived in the amount of $975.00, quite a bit more than we expected. Overall we were very impressed with Insulation Man. The representatives that came to the house were very knowledgeable, courteous, and professional. I had several phone contacts with the office staff and they were very courteous and helpful as well. We haven't been able to get a true measure of energy savings yet as our last gas bill was based on an estimated reading (Ugh!), but we can definitely notice that the second floor is warmer as is the basement. I am anxious to also see the effects of the insulation on the second floor during the summer and whether it will help to keep it cooler as well. We highly recommend Insulation Man.
Description of Work: Our home is a two-story colonial built in 1977. Additional insulation was blown into all attic spaces to bring the level from R19 up to R50. Also, foam insulation was sprayed along the rim joists around the entire perimeter of the basement. An energy audit was performed prior to the insulation being installed and after completion of the work. All necessary applications for energy rebates from Consumers Energy, our natural gas utility, were processed by Insulation Man and the rebates were received from Consumers Energy as expected.

Representative visited our home in Allen Park and scanned the walls to determine their thermal conducftivity. He was very cordial and knowledgeable. At the time, we were only interested in evaluating our options and did not engage The Insulation Man to install further material in our home. He did e-mail the thermal scans to me which were helpful even though their resolution was limited. Overall - a very good experience.
