Catlin Construction & Renovation is a licensed & insured builder of Casco Township. We are a hard-working company with prompt, courteous service wanting to make a difference for you!
Came out at the time requested, within 2 days of my initial call. We are having the large kitchen remodeled, except for cabinets. He arrived on time. Said he could do all of the work on our list--no problem. We provided him with a list of material selections and work to be done. That was the end if our contact. We never heard from him again.
Description of Work: D rating = Dropped out of sight, didn't provide an estimate. He probably would have gotten the job had he submitted a quote since he seemed highly experienced. He never called, emailed or followed up. Wasted our time. Even a phone call saying he couldn't do it would have been professional. Will spend $15,000 with someone else.
Jason Catlin was very quick to return our initial phone call. He came out to assess the job and take measurements. We got estimates from 4 different companies for the job. Jason's was not the lowest or the highest. He won us over with his presentation. His company was willing to do all the work so we didn't have to piece things out. I picked out cabinets from a KraftMaid line. They are all wood construction with the quiet close doors and drawers. I couldn't be happier with their look or function. The countertop is granite. The back splash is travertine. The floor is a hand scraped bamboo. The cabinets were ordered in December. Work began a few days before the cabinets arrived. Vince and Dustin were working at our home Monday through Fri for about 3 weeks. They were very professional and hardworking. Any question we had or any changes we wanted were quickly addressed by one of the 3. Our home is over 30 years old and it has a lot of flaws but the kitchen/dining room is not one of them. The kitchen turned out quite beautiful. Better than we imagined. We will use Catlin Construction in the future because of the quality work we've seen first hand.
Description of Work: Demolition of cabinets, flooring, drywall. Removal of one wall. Fix the electrical and run new electrical throughout the kitchen and dining room for can lights and outlets. Put up new drywall, painted. Installed cabinets and an island including hardware and crown molding. Installed hardwood flooring through the dining room, kitchen and hallways. Installed new casings and moldings around doors and floors. Installed sink, plumbing. Installed tile back splash. Installed all appliances.

Catlin construction completed the remodel of my upstairs bathroom in March, 2012 and I was completely satisfied so I asked them to replace the doors, moulding and trim in my home in August, 2012. I hired Jason and his team again in September 2012 to remodel my downstairs bathroom, laundry room and repair water damaged walls and ceiling in my family room. I was completely comfortable with Catlin Construction being in my home, Jason, Vince and Dustin were very respectful of my home and took care to cover carpet, minimize dust from traveling throughout my house via tarps, etc. I was comfortable leaving the workers in my home when I had to step out. The same three workers competed all of the projects and knowing the quality of the work and their professionalism, it was an easy decision to hire Catlin Construction for subsequent jobs.
Description of Work: I had two bathrooms completely remodeled, one was a full bath and the other had a stand up shower. I also had water damaged walls and ceiling repaired and new flooring installed in my laundry room. Finally, new 6-panel doors, moulding and trim installed in my house.
Jason (the owner) appeared as scheduled to provide an estimate for the cost of the project. A day or two later he returned with the estimate after determining the material costs (oak hardwood, stain, trim molding, etc.). At that time we agreed on a price and the tentative schedule for the work to be done. The contract included a tentative completion date for the project to be completed. All work went well except for a couple of minor distracters such as his subcontractors changing their work schedules without notifying Jason. When I made Jason aware of this small glitches, he took immediate corrective action and all continued as it should have. The final completion date was delayed 1 day but was due to Jason's subcontractor. As an added note I must complement Jason and his subcontractor for the quality of work performed, the "old school" wood working skills of all these people justified the minor 1 day delay for project completion. Highly recommended....
Description of Work: This project was to renovate my existing staircase to the second floor and replace the upstairs hallway carpeting with 3/4" oak hardwood. The stairway carpeting was removed and replaced with 3/4" oak hardwood. Additional requirement was to install a new 15 Amp AC outlet in the basement near the foot of the stairs.

Same as above, our time was wasted waiting on his estimate
Description of Work: The gentleman came out to give us an estimate, kept talking about the house being so old it would be difficult to do (built in 1950, original bathroom), was suppose to send an estimate in the mail, we never heard from him again.

Jason, Vince, and Dustin did an amazing job renovating our bathroom. Their attention to detail was outstanding, even down to the horrible (to install) light fixture I chose. They asked questions when they needed to, offered awesome suggestions, and were just great to work with. Always on time, and always open communication if any challenges arose. I was home the whole time, and never heard anything that scared me or gave me a bad impression. I could not recommend them highly enough. The tile work was fairly complicated (aka impossible for me) and they did a beautiful job with it. Friends and family have oooh'd and aaaah'd. And they were very patient easing my paranoia about water leaks or steam infiltration. I have no fears with this bathroom! And like another reviewer, Jason even helped by patching some random drywall I showed him in my basement.
Description of Work: Jason, Vince, and Dustin remodeled our master bath, a complete job, down to the last detail.

The work was performed to our specifications and both Jason and his coworker were professional and courteous. Since then, Jason has also given us lots of advice about solutions to various problems in our ouse (even though we aren't always ready to act on those potential solutions) and once he even fixed a leaking laundry tub for us for free, coming back after I completely failed at attempting to implement the solution he tried to explain to me. Basically, he's our hero! Based on all the above, when we are finally ready for big remodeling jobs (hopefully our kitchen next year), he will be the first person we call, but he will also take on smaller jobs. He's also a really nice and honest guy. I definitely trust his input and know he's not trying to sell me anything because he's told me not to do some things that could easily have made him money.
Description of Work: Jason and another worker came out to replace a toilet a couple of years ago, plus lots of estimates and advice regarding other work we need to have done eventually.

Came out quickly. Very punctual. Did a very thorough job of explaining what needed to be done and the costs involved - offered options. Went right to work - had everything needed at hand - very hard workers. Cleaned up everything - and then some. Very friendly and kind.
Description of Work: Did an excellent job replacing plumbing fixtures in bath and kitchen. Rebuilt piping under the kitchen faucet including installation of shut off valves (previously not there). Connected my dishwasher correctly. As requested they put in new toilet tank kit and rebuilt shower and bath tub piping with shut off valves. Did a FABULOUS job in suggesting a "handiable" fixture for my disabled sons. Which, in fact, now enables them to operate the shower independently. Thanks -guys!!
I found Catlin Construction on Angie's List last spring when I was looking for someone to do the drywall work on a remodel project I was working on. I received an estimate from the owner, Jason Catlin and compared it with two other estimates I had received and they were all in the same ballpark. I felt most comfortable with Jason so I decided to give him the work. I was so pleased with the job he did on the drywall that I asked him to quote my next two projects, which were interior painting and a bathroom remodel. The job he did on the bathroom was incredible. I have received many compliments on the new bathroom from everyone who has seen it. Plus, since my design was something a little more contemporary I could tell that he and his crew really enjoyed working on the project. The only thing left to do was to reside the home and since I'd had such great luck with Catlin Construction so far, I figured I would get a quote from Jason on that as well. I was about 70% sure what I wanted to do on the outside of the home, but asked Jason for some advice. He told me about a product he'd used on his own home called Novabrik and explained how he could use both the Novabrik and vinyl siding to provide a nice accent. I research the product online and knew immediately that was the look I was going for. While the quote he gave me was high, I knew that he would go above and beyond to make sure I was very happy with the end result. That's exactly what happened. I couldn't be more pleased with the finished product.
Description of Work: Installed new drywall throughout the home. Painted the entire interior walls, ceiling, doors, and trim. Installed granite countertop and sink in the kitchen. Remodeled master bathroom including adding new shower, glass doors, whirlpool tub, ceramic wall and floor tile, vanity, toilet. Installed Novabrik, vinyl siding, soffits, trim and gutters to the entire exterior of house.

The work they did was all high to excellent quality. Following painting there were a few spots left on my hardwood floors, and Jason came out immediately to fix the problem. The crew was very professional and courteous. They were careful to lock up the house when I was not there, their language was never offensive, and they kept the house clean as they worked. Jason was also angelically patient, as he waited for payment from my mortgage company which arrived exceedingly late. After having several contractors come through for series of jobs, Catlin Construction was hands-down my favorite.
Description of Work: Catlin Construction completed a variety of tasks in the process of remodeling and updating the home I just purchased. Those involved repainting and installing baseboards in two bedrooms, replacing concrete pre-formed steps on my back porch, and regrading the soil in a few places.
Catlin Construction refurbished our damaged basement bathroom. They rebuilt the drywall, removed of the old shower insert, and in its place created a new beautifully tiled shower with a niche and matching tile flooring. The niche displays artistry that speaks to the design of the overall shower. The tiled floor has a lovely pinwheel pattern (replacing the damaged carpet with tile that matched the shower). Both the newly installed tiled floor, and the new shower boasts a beautiful artistic quality that complements the entire basement, as well as the entire home. Catlin installed a new light fixture in the basement bathroom, a new mirror, as well as built an exhaust fan and installed venting to draw air out the bathroom, sending it to the outside of our home. They painted, added molding and ensured that outdated electrical outlets were up to code. In addition, they added towel bars, a hook for a robe, as well as created and installed cleverly hidden access panels above the toilet to allow easy access to shut off values. Catlin Construction was extremely professional and exhibited superior craftsmanship throughout the entire project. We selected, purchased in advance, and provided to the company many of the items to install (the tile, vanity top with integrated sink, light fixture, mirror, shower door, faucets, towel bar, towel ring, robe hook, and toilet paper holder). When we ran in to a few challenges, they were able to quickly resolve them which is a testament to their skill and ability, such as when my husband and I had decided on a certain design for the mirror and the light fixture (we had purchased both in advance). Catlin was pretty much done with the bathroom and ready to install these two items. To our surprise they no longer fit into the space. We discovered that a much wider light switch plate cover had been installed that was not originally there, and it prevented the new mirror and new light fixture from fitting into the space. We initially measured the space thinking that the light switch plate cover would remain the same size. We thought we would have to change our design concept for something less desirable in order to find something that would fit into the smaller space. Catlin construction discussed rearranging the light fixture to allow for inverted lanterns, which then allowed the mirror to be positioned in a manner that allowed it to fit properly. It was a spur of the moment design change by the company, and was something my husband and I had not envisioned, but it in the end it looked just a beautiful. We did not have to go through the trouble of returning items. An unexpected change to the design turned out to be an element of surprise that added a bit of flair to the overall look of the bathroom. The entire bathroom looks absolutely amazing. If you looked at the before and after photos, you would not believe it is the same bathroom. The work they accomplished on this bathroom is unbelievable. Every so often I have to go down into the basement and just marvel at what they accomplished. It has a certain je ne sais quoi! We were hoping to have all the paper work finalized with the insurance company by now, and still hope to get Catlin's feedback on the cost break outs. All in all the work is exceptional.
Description of Work: Total renovation of our basement bathroom consisting of one sink, toilet and shower. Had water damage from a back-up, and this company removed the drywall and the shower insert, as well as the sink and sink cabinet. The bathroom previously had carpeting and padding which I removed, and the company tiled the floor, built the shower wall and tiled that as well. They also removed the drop ceiling, made a new ceiling and replaced the old ceiling with a better ceiling. They removed the florescent light from the shower and replace that with a recessed light. They put in a fan and switch, venting the moist air out to the front of the house. They put in a new sink and cabinet, the faucet for it and the shower, towel bars and toilet roll holder, painted the room and put in a new shower door. Beautiful job. I had asked them for a further break out of the costs so I could send it to the insurance company as requested, in hopes of possibly obtaining additional payments to cover the damage to the basement. I followed that request up to Catlin Construction with an email request for same. I have not received a response to date and it's been about two months.

I had my kitchen remodeled by another contractor, very poor job, didn't measure right and things just didn't fit, left stuff undone! I just wanted him out of my house! I met a lady that told me she just loved her kitchen, I told her that what I wanted to say, she gave me his card, and so I called, so happy I did! Jason came right over and looked at it and gave me a price, so very willing to make everything okay and to please his customer, Jason and Chad did a great job, we are so very grateful! I will for sure use Catlin Construction again! I can now say I love my kitchen too! For some one to come in and fix a mistakes that someone else has done is really nice, and I can't thank them enough. There top on my list!

He was very professional, but I did not accept the job due to the price being higher than other estimates I had received.
Description of Work: I received an estimate for a basement bathroom installation.
Jason met with me and we discussed what I wanted in my new kitchen. He offered many useful suggestions both functional and aesthetic. He drew plans for the kitchen. I was impressed by his knowledge of products and the fact that he only wanted to use ones that were good quality(not necessarily the most expensive), He helped me with tile and floor choices. He was always available to answer questions. I was impressed by the fact that he gave so much time to a small project. He worked quickly and cleaned up well.He was always on time and polite. Because my condo is over 50 years old and my kitchen was in terrible shape he ran into some plumbing and electrical problems but took care of these. He takes great pride in his work always going the extra mile to assure a perfect finished product.I had suggested he take some short cuts with the tile but he insisted on putting in the extra work and time to make it truly beautiful. My new kitchen has exceeded my expectations. It is not only beautiful but very functional. Jason is truly one of a kind. I'm looking forward to having him renovate other parts of my condo.
Description of Work: Jason removed all countertops, cabinets, soffits, wallpaper, old electrical plugs and switches, appliances and flooring. He installed new cabinets, granite countertops, new electrical outlets, plugs and switches, under cabinet lighting, recessed ceiling lighting, new case and base moulding, cork flooring, kitchen sink, faucet, tile backsplash, painted walls and door, and installed all new appliances, water heater, garbage disposal, cabinet handles, water line with shut-off for refrigerator, cleaned kitchen exhaust fan, repaired wall(had water damage) and ceiling. Painted wall, ceiling and door.

Jason called a couple of times before the job and we knew exactly when he was coming. We went over the style, type of wood and stain in an earlier visit. Jason gave good advice and helped us pinpoint the type of stain that we liked for the doors. The first day they stayed 12-hr's and because of that they were able to take all the doors home. The doors had to be stained multiple times and dried before they could be hung. We were well informed during this process. Four days later they came back and changed the doors-sometimes doors had to be tried more than once on a frame so they would fit the right way. The door frames and heights sometimes varied--they were not standard. I thought that Jason was very detailed and friendly, he obviously likes what he is doing. Jason will take his time with you to make sure the job is done correctly which I think makes him a cut above most other companies. Also Jason is creative and comes up with suggestions that can save you money. He thinks about the sticky points of the job and comes up with good solutions. Hire him, even if you do end up paying slightly more you will not be disappointed as there will be no problems or surprises during the job.
Description of Work: Jason replaced 7 interior doors in the house, these doors had to be custom installed since the walls in the house were not standard 2 by 4's.

From start to finish everything went smoothly. The work was scheduled to be completed in two weeks and was. When the contractor discovered how blocked the sink drain pipe was he replaced the drain and restored real drainage we had not had in years.
Description of Work: Contractor completely remodeled our half bath. He took out the exterior walls and added insulation. He lowered the ceiling and installed tin ceiling tiles. He took the floor down to subfloor and installed cork flooring. The walls were painted and a glass tile backsplash installed. A new toilet, semi pedestal sink and faucet were installed. New wall storage and medicine cabinets were installed. Electrical switches and plugs were replaced. A problem with the sink drainage was discovered to be caused by a 3/4 block in the horizontal drain and that pipe was replaced. We also had the adjacent landing and stairwell painted and the storm door to the garage replaced.

The entire project went well. Installation of the backsplash was almost the final touch to the project. Problems were encountered with cutting the glass tile to fit half tiles around the window. The contractor and his assistant solved that issue. In the end the project took a day and a half and looks wonderful.
Description of Work: Installation of glass tile backsplash was part of my overall kitchen remodel (price reflects total remodel cost). I had selected one inch glass tile for my backsplash. The contractor obtained a fantastic price for me on the tiles and did a great job at installing it. The expert installation enhances the overall beauty of the project.

The flooring went in so well I have flooring left over to use in my half bath. The transition between the kitchen and dining area is practically level which was a vast improvement offer the old floor transition. The great protection given the floor during the rest of the project kept it from being damaged in any way. I am very pleased with the outcome.
Description of Work: As part of my overall kitchen remodel (cost reflects total remodel cost) I had cork flooring installed. To accomplish this all the old flooring had to be removed to the floor boards to level the floor with the dining area. Bad floor boards were replaced, a fabric was laid between the floor boards and underlayment and then the actual floating floor was installed. While selecting the flooring we discussed the benefits of a floating floor versus a glue down tile installation and went with the contractor's suggested floating floor. Through the rest of the project, the floor was carefully protected with cardboard to prevent damage. Even though the demolition sawdust fell through the floor boards, a great clean up effort was made and when the total flooring project was complete sawdust in the basement and kitchen was all cleaned up.

The project went quite smoothly despite the difficulty of having almost no fudge factors. Every step was executed professionally. Whenever there was something the contractor felt needed to be added it was discussed and we made our decisions based on the info provided. The contractor was very much a perfectionist as was his assistant. The work was estimated to be completed by Christmas and was done with a few days to spare. Every day the work area was cleaned up so dirt would not track through the house. After hearing nightmares about kitchen renovations I cannot complain even for a minute. My experience was great and the outcome fantastic.
Description of Work: I had my kitchen completely renovated from floor to ceiling. This included a tin ceiling, cork flooring, new cupboards, a granite countertops and appliance installation. After getting an initial design, the contractor measured the spaces and identified several problem areas that were redone prior to ordering the cabinets. Upon removing the old cabinets, there was a significant amount of wall damage so we had the dry wall removed, insulation added and new dry wall hung. The walls were painted by the contractor. The tolerances in the kitchen design was in the 1/8 inch range requiring extreme precision. The glass tile backsplash required fitting around the window and a lot of grout. To install the over the stove microwave the ductwork had to be modified to utilize the existing wall hole. The countertop he subcontracted looks like a million. I can hardly believe how great it all looks.

I believe the paint job was done very well. I have heard horror stories about painters making messes or doing bad jobs. This experience was nothing like that and turned out great. Being able to afford premium paint makes me confident it will stand up well also.
Description of Work: As part of my overall kitchen remodel (cost reflects total cost) I had the walls painted. At the contractor's advice I selected a Pratt and Lambert Accolade paint that he was able to obtain with a contractor discount. That made the selection more economical for me. The painting was done very well with no splatters, drips or missed spots. The paint job is very professional.

All the wall board work resulted in the benefits we expected. The room is warmer and our backsplash tile looks even and smooth. My tin ceiling looks like a million bucks. If the base for these projects was not done as well as it was I don't believe the end result would have gone as well. An added benefit was how the room was partitioned off and the drywall dust seeping into other areas of the house was very minimal.
Description of Work: The drywall work was done as part of my overall kitchen remodel (cost reflects total kitchen remodel cost). After doing the cabinet demo, there were a lot odd holes in the drywall. The contractor suggested we might want to consider having the drywall replaced for two reasons. 1. Insulation could be added to keep the room warmer. 2. The flat surface would help with the glass tile backsplash installation. After considering the benefits we decided to have the drywall replaced which given the warmer room and great tile job, was an investment well worth it. Additionally the contractor removed my soffit and had to repair the ceiling area to make it level with the existing ceiling. Since I was having a tin ceiling installed and the existing ceiling was textured the leveling was necessary to get the tile up correctly. The ceiling tile looks great so I have to say the ceiling repair was well done.
