The repairs and painting results were excellent. You could see the professionalism while they were painting. A steady hand and brush made excellent edging appearance. Entire job took 1 week, a lot of work but it looks fabulous.
Description of Work: Painted foyer walls and ceiling. This is a 2 story open foyer, very difficult. Repaired nail pops, nail holes, wall dings, cracked trim and caulked all trim. Painted steel entry door and side lite trim. Painted upstairs hallway, master bedroom walls and vaulted ceiling. Painted master bath with vaulted ceiling, shower room and water closet. Replaced two ceiling lamps. Painted kitchen ceiling.
It was unbelievable. Their crew was capable and flexible. Our 3 bathrooms look awesome. They saved us as our granite layers had to have our old countertops leveled before laying granite and Ted had his crew do it though it was not in our contract. They did everything to perfection as their crew members are multidisciplined. I would not hesitate to hire them for any other project. They are professional, competent, and reasonably priced. Thank you Ted.
Description of Work: They completed projects in many areas with excellent results including laying ceramic tile, plumbing, electric work, mounting an overhead microwave, remodeling 3 bathrooms, leveling a countertop for granite installation, and did numerous handyman jobs as we continued to add to their list. They did it always with a smile on their face as we had deadlines to meet which were met.

From the very start when I was gathering bids on this project Ted, from Put A Smile on Your Place Construction, was very professional and easy to work with. His was the first of 3 bids I received back after making the calls requesting bids to be done. During this process Ted also seemed to be the best at envisioning what I wanted done, running with my ideas and including suggestions of his own. While the price of one bid came in much higher, Ted's came in with only a $200 difference from another bid I had received. This made me feel confident that I had 2 very accurate bids and just needed to make a choice between those 2. I felt comfortable in my decision to select Put A Smile on Your Place because of Ted's ability to envision how the project would unfold and explain this to me. My decision was further reinforced when I called to let one of the other contractors know I had selected someone else. That gentleman politely asked if he could know who I selected and when I told him Put A Smile on Your Place, he proceeded to praise Ted's work, saying that I would be very happy with my selection. I thought that was pretty good for one contractor to give a nice review of another. Ted started the project when he said it would start and right away I noticed how organized he was in getting the various tradesmen in to do whatever specialty was needed. The egress window, framing, electrical, plumbing, drywall, and finishing all seemed to move seamlessly from one to the other. The inspections that were needed as the project progressed fit right in as well and never slowed the project down. Everything always passed with flying colors and the inspectors even seemed impressed in how the project was moving forward so smoothly. Ted stayed on top of it the whole time and made sure that I was always kept up to speed on what was being done and when. While I didn't get to meet every tradesman that worked on the project, the ones I did meet were all very polite and worked hard. All of this made, what can be a stressful time for a homeowner, seem much more effortless and actually fun. I would definitely use Put A Smile on Your Place Construction for any future projects I need done at my home. Job Well Done!
Description of Work: This project was finishing an unfinished basement and included a full bath and installation of an egress window.

From the initial quote to the final inspection, Ted (owner of Put a Smith on Your Place Construction) was always very professional and knowledgeable. It was quite evident that he and his team were experienced and were going to do an awesome job. We had obtained 3 other quotes and spoken with other contractors, however Ted made us feel the most confident that he was going to deliver a high quality basement, within budget and on time. We also contacted several of his references and all of them had such wonderful things to say about Ted personally as well as his work. Now that the project is complete, we have to say that our basement looks absolutely awesome!! Ted was so very helpful throughout the process with providing great ideas and incorporating our design ideas/changes from start to finish. Ted was willing and capable of providing the custom items that I wanted to incorporated into our space. Ted and his team were also very professional, highly skilled, timely, and friendly. This made the 8 week construction process so much more bearable. I would recommend Put a Smile on Your Place Construction to anyone. We will indeed be contacting them for future projects!

My husband and I contacted more than 3 contractors for the bathroom remodel. We chose Ted because he was quick to respond to our request, was knowledgeable about the project, gave a detailed written estimate of the project (including start and finish time), expected to work with city permits and inspections, and applied no pressure to expand the project and make it more costly. My husband and I are extremely pleased with the bathroom project. Ted was courteous, friendly, informative and knowledgeable about the project . His design ideas were very helpful. The remodel took a total of about 3 weeks (only because we worked with city inspectors). He kept us informed of the project daily and accurately planned work progress. Always, we were told when to expect the workers and they came at the anticipated times. The members of Ted's team were exemplary in their work, attitude and competence. From demolition to cleanup, Ted's crew was excellent. He has our highest recommendation.
Description of Work: Te d and his crew removed a jetted tub, toilet and floor ceramic tile in a master bathroom. He then designed a walk in shower in the space with subway ceramic tile and accent tile. He installed a new ceramic floor over both areas, built a partial shower wall, and installed tempered glass on half wall. Ted applied all the finishing touches including painting, installing new fixtures and building a new cabinet. We purchased the tile, new toilet and hardware for the shower.

Great. Removed existing kitchen and bath. Assembled and installed cabinets, trim and updated electrical and plumbing Teds team is very professional, always on time and thorough with each task. Ted personally gets involved in decision making as well as execution. He consulted us as necessary and provided correct advice when faced with tricky situations. He provided weekly updates on scheduled tasks and status of project which is very helpful when performing a long and complex renovation. I will definitely hire him again.
We were impressed with Ted, the owner, from our first contact. We called for an estimate and Ted came out within two days and he had many great ideas for our basement remodel, but didn't try to oversell us things we didn't need. He started work within a week and we were very impressed with his knowledge in all areas of construction and that he does a lot of the work himself personally. He is so easy going and good natured which makes working with him a total pleasure. He brought in a top notch electrician, painter and drywall specialists. He has really good people that work with him and they were all very punctual, efficient, and did great work. The area was always left very clean after each day of work. Ted's work is pure perfection. I would not hesitate to highly recommend him and would definitely enjoy working with him again in the future.
Description of Work: Drywall basement walls over existing paneling, install new grid and ceiling tiles for suspended ceiling (changing out from 2' x 4' size to 2' x 2' 's, we supplied the tiles) remove fluorescent shop lighting and install 15 recessed lights & 2 wall sconces with dimmer switches, frame and create two closets, one with shelving, frame around three glass block windows to allow maximum natural light, install rod and shelf in additional closet, hang shower rod, towel bar and toilet paper holder in bathroom, install new bathroom fan and vent to outside (required removal of an area of ceiling drywall and repair), paint basement, stairwell and bathroom.

We had a partially finished basement with drywall and drop ceiling that we wanted to fully finish. We had a few contractors provide us quotes for our basement remodel. Ted was the only one who moved ceiling tiles to look at the duct work and pipes. He seemed extremely experienced with basements. We looked at pictures on his website and liked his style of construction. He also came in with the lowest bid and was able to start working fairly soon. He had several good ideas to add to our rough design. When it came to actual construction, Ted, Jason, and the subs were professional and punctual. The whole project was not as disruptive as we thought it would be. In fact, our little girls looked forward to seeing Ted and Jason everyday - now, even a few months later, they are still talking about Ted and Jason. Overall, they did a nice job. We are really happy with our newly done basement.
Description of Work: Ted and his team finished our basement including bedroom with egress window, full bathroom, kitchenette with raised bar, and several shelving units and storage spaces. He also needed to demo the old drywall/drop ceiling/carpet.

We are in the process of renovating our 1940's cape cod style house and needed framing and drywall work. This involved a large part of our house: foyer, hallway, pantry, kitchen and part of living room. The walls were down to studs, and we had insulated before calling a contractor to finish it up. It was a challenging job, to say the least, with lots of nooks, peaked ceiling in a walk in pantry area that needed to be framed, two small closets in the foyer/hallway area, a recess for refrigerator, walls that didn't quite match up (parts of the house had been added on over the years), soffits in the kitchen and plumbing to work around as we are on a slab. Two other contractors never even followed up after coming for the initial quotes. We were lucky to find Ted at Put a Smile on Your Place! He came over a couple times to look at the job, listen to what we wanted, and take measurements. He also offered some good suggestions that we wouldn't have come up with ourselves. His pricing was very reasonable, and he and his staff were prompt and professional. Excellent finished product...it looks beautiful! We will definitely call Ted for our next project.
Description of Work: Framing and drywall for foyer, hallway, walk-in pantry, kitchen, 2 closets and some miscellaneous soffit work in another room
In order to gain need storage space for a family member who was coming for a long term stay, I contracted Ted and his team to build storage closets in the basement. He cleverly built the closets well using the space within the short time frame I needed it done. In addition, he custom built a bar around an unsightly water meter resulting in a beautiful, functional solution.
Description of Work: Ted and his team built 3 storage closets for me in the basement. I had a large water meter I wanted to cover and he built a custom bar around it to hide it. It is a beautiful, functional solution. All work was done well and on time. I would definitely use this company again.

The owner---Ted Brayboy--- was very easy to work with. Ted came on time, gave his estimate promptly, kept to the schedule he promised and provided a super painter---Dan Rose. Dan worked very quickly, neatly, and did superior work! Ted followed up to inspect the work and to make certain I was happy with the job. If my basement had not been finished, I would have hired Ted to do it. I would highly recommend Ted and Put a Smile on Your Place Construction for any construction/painting work!

We tried to hire Ted before Christmas as we were moving in, but could not get together on dates due to the move and time-off. We called Ted back in January and he immediately came out to give an estimate. He spent a lot of time looking at left over paint cans to match the existing walls and working with us to determine the right shades to use for the new paint work. Ted gave us a fair price and promised that he and his painter would be out. They were on time and got to work immediately. Dan (Ted's painter) was great! He was friendly, knowledgable and worked continuously to finish the job in a day and a half. We are very happy with the results. We are already talking to Ted about replacing some of the doors in the house and modernizing the door hardware. These guys put a smile on our house and our faces.
Description of Work: Small repairs to plaster walls plus painting our dining room and two bedrooms. There was some small nicks and gouges from the previous owners plus some shelves that had to be removed from the walls with the holes repaired. The work entailed several coats of paint in the dining room to change the color plus repainting two bedrooms to change the colors as well. Additionally, a small closet and the stairway walls needed to be painted. All the work was done around boxes from our recent move with some minor furniture moving.

It felt like it was team work all along. Ted constantly gave us great ideas and followed through with all our plans. He always answered his phone when we had a question. Everyone on his crews were polite, respectful and cleaned up after themselves. I thought this would be a stressful project, but I couldn't have been more wrong. I look forward to working with Ted in the future. The most important detail is that he helped us stay within our budget.
Description of Work: WE HAD A COMPLETELY UNFINISHED BASEMENT. THEY DRYWALLED THE WALLS, CEILING, DID ALL ELECTRICAL WORK, PUT IN A LAMINATE FLOOR, CREATED PANTRY AND STORAGE SPACE, PUT IN THE LIGHTING AND PAINTED THE WALLS, PLACED IN AN EGRESS WINDOW, REPLACED OTHER 3 WINDOWS.

After getting three bids for the job, I selected Put a Smile on Your Place because the owner did not try to oversell me on the areas that needed painting. He actually suggested some ways i could save money on the project. In addition the owner was personally involved in the job. His bid was competitive. I am completely pleased with the job. The owner was prompt, professional and polite. He cleaned up after himself, did not dribble paint on my newly finished hardwood floors (whew) and even changed a light built i could not reach. The only glitch, and it was a minor one, involved the start date. It started about a week later than we had agreed upon. this was inconvenient because i had other workers scheduled to arrive when the painting was done. however, the owner made sure i was kept up-to-date about the new start date. When the job started, it went quickly and smoothly. I would not hesitate to use this company again. In fact, I plan to use them on another painting job early next year. By the way, I keep calling the comapny Put a Smile on Your FACE, instead of Place. I think the owner should change the name, because it was a pleasure doing business with this company..
Description of Work: Paint and patch walls and water-damaged cathedral ceilings in great room/dining room, kitchen and kitchenette. Paint and patch ceilings, walls in hallways and stairwell leading to basement. I provided the paint.

too much to list... It all started from my sewer collapsing and escalated. After three estimates, Ted was the only one who was promt, sent me a detailed typed estimate and I hired him immediately. (I might add I requested several times for the other estimates to be written so I could compare - they never sent them. I also got the GREAT advice to finish the demo that the other company (Which Mr. Rooter suggested) never completed so that my basement would be "Like it should be". Thanks Ted! Sorry it took me so long to get this posted! YOU ROCK!

After many years of talking about it, in January 2012, my wife and decided to remodel our kitchen. We went to Angies List to look for potential contractors. We ultimately picked three to interview for the project. The interviews for the project were important as each contractor had interesting ideas and approaches to the project - some of which we incorporated into our design. We ultimately decided on Ted, of Put a Smile on your Place Construction. The primary reasons were price (while not the lowest of the three was very competitive), he indicated the project would be done in a week to ten days (which we knew was VERY ambitious, but we liked the aggressive approach) and really liked the fact that he made other suggestions to consider. For example, he pointed out that for a relative modest price, we could upgrade our first floor 1/2 bath and the entrance way by repainting walls, replacing the tired old doors, and adding a granite top to the vanity. While this put additional costs on the bottom line of the project, we thought the suggestions were more than reasonable and demonstrated Ted's effort to not just look at the kitchen but consider how the entire house would look. Two of the three contractors also lived near our house. Ted was one of them and we felt that would be a benefit to the project, which turned out to be very useful. We also wanted a contractor who used Michigan products and bought American. By the end of February, with the interviews complete, we picked Put a Smile on Your Place Construction. Our first decision was to pick cabinets, since these had to be custom ordered a month or so before being shipped. Ted has a relationship with Mans Lumber. They have a design department that provided excellent assistance to us in working out details of the project. While the basic footprint of the kitchen stayed the same. We were going to move the refrigerator from it's original position and surround it by storage cabinets. We also were extending the cabinets to the ceiling, which meant tearing open the soffits to see if this could be accomplished. In early April, working with Mans, we picked Pioneer Cabinets. These are great cabinets made near Flint, Michigan. In early April, my wife and I were going to be traveling for about two weeks. Ted suggested he come in and do most of the demolition, but still keeping the kitchen functional until the cabinets arrived. This was done and it took a lot of work -- more work than anticipated so there were some additional costs. The big concerns were addressing the soffit issue to make sure we could install the taller cabinets, digging behind and above the wall around the refrigerator, and addressing some unanticipated electrical issues. Waiting would be a significant problem. The cabinets were due by the end of the first week in May. They were a week later and due to a scheduling problem with workers, Ted could not get started for a few days after that. Placing the cabinets over the existing tile had concerns. The tile itself was way out of date. We had an extra box of tile, which helped with some work that had to be accomplished, but we soon ran out. These tiles had long been discontinued so we were worried about how the floor would look. But, Ted and his team were able to lay down the new cabinets without requiring any new tiles. With the cabinets done, now came the problem of the granite. We were ordering a lot of granite for our counter tops and we were replacing our kitchen table with a large granite top and placing it adjacent to our window to form a peninsula extending from the window -- at counter height with cabinets underneath. My wife and I thought we had ordered the granite with plenty of lead time, but we failed to get an actual date for Ted. A long story short, the granite did not arrive for three weeks, holding up the project even more. Ted and his team kept as busy as possible in completing other projects, but the granite delay was big. When it finally came, the back splash and other items could be completed. The only big item remaining was the windows, which arrived in mid-June. The window company installed them and did the custom framing, which to my untrained eye was pretty good. Ted saw the framing over the kitchen sink and expressed horror. He saw gaps and other problems that neither my wife of I had noticed. After a few calls to the window sales man, new wood was provided and Ted redid much of the window framing. Ted then finished the bathrooms (we had decided to do an update in our upstairs "guest" bathroom), paint all the rooms and complete the new upstairs railing. By this time, our project had taken much longer than anticipated and Ted had other contracts to address. Thus, it seemed it took a long time for the final details to be completed. Additionally, since the project was completed, we have noticed a couple of minor issues and Ted was quick to come over and address them. This was a long and expensive project. It required a lot of collaboration and patience. Ted could not have been better in this effort. That all said it was a great experience, we are glad it's over, but we would not hesitate to hire Ted again.
Description of Work: Our house is about twenty years old and it was time to update our kitchen. We decided to update the existing "footprint," rather than more extensive remodeling in terms of knocking out walls and other extensive changes. We also wanted to save the existing ceramic tile. Below, I've tried to reference who was responsible for what, by including "we," meaning what my wife and I did, vs what Ted, the owner of Put a Smile on Your Place Construction, handled. As will be discussed below, our contractor, Ted, suggested some additional updates to our entrance area, bathrooms and stairway. Additionally, Ted suggested, and we had also been thinking about, adding two new windows to augment the new kitchen, we ordered. Initially, Ted included to cost of granite in his proposal. We decided to handle this on our own and, of course, we upgraded the granite quality, which added another $1,000 to the project. In all, we probably spent an additional $10,000 over the $32,000 we paid Ted. This $10,000 either went to extras or additional items not included in the bid. This is not a complaint, but it is a fact that anyone doing a project like this needs to keep in mind. Extras add up. We thought construction would begin in early May 2012 when the cabinets were to be received. However, my wife and I were going to be out of the country for about ten days in early April, so Ted and his team came in and began much of the demolition work needed to be accomplished. In some ways this was a great idea. The only real downside for the early demolition was that is seemed to extend the project by about a month in that the cabinets were delayed by over a week, Ted could not begin construction immediately when the cabinets arrived and my wife and I were living in a construction zone much longer than anticipated. That said, Ted found a number of issues after tearing down our walls that had to be addressed. At our request, he took many of our old cabinets and placed them and installed them in the garage. Also, Ted kept our kitchen functional during this period - which was very important. When our cabinets arrived, Ted and his team went to work. Then, he had to stop as the granite order was not delivered for about three weeks. We knew there would be a delay from making our order to when it was delivered, but we never anticipated a three week delay. Getting a specific time is a lesson learned before the order is made. By mid-June, except for some odds and ends, the project was completed.
Ted Braboy and his subcontractors were professional, punctual, and innovative from start to finish. I stress innovative because Ted was very proactive about providing specific ideas as the project evolved. In other words, he didn't simply perform the job and then look at us like, "Well, that's what you told me you wanted". If he had suggestions, he provided them in good detail such that we could make an informed decision on several finish ideas. He was also able to easily incorporate changes that we wanted to make along the way without any disruption to the job (for example, we changed our entire home theater vision well after construction had started and Ted was able to accommodate the changes and keep the project on track at a fair price).
Description of Work: Finished basement including:- Rework and completion of framing- Electrical - Drywall (including drywall ceiling)- Plumbing (started with 3 piece rough and completed prep for bathroom/shower)- Construction of base bar (wall, plumbing, outer woodwork)- Painting, including walls, base bar, and handrails Not included (saving for phase 2 of the job) - Carpet, bathroom fixtures, bar cabinetry and sink.

Ted was very responsive and provided a competitive quote. We had a difficult decision selecting a handyman because we had several high-quality contractors to choose from and would have been comfortable with either. Ultimately, we chose a company that was bigger and worked on commercial projects as well as residential homes. However, we will consider Ted in the future when we need other work done.

Overall the project went extremely well. Ted took the time and explained to us what would happen, how long it would take and when he would start the project. Ted was very accomodating to our schedules. We had to postpone our original start date due to an illness in our family. He asked us to let him know when we were ready for him to start. Once we were ready he told us what day he would start and what time he would be over. He was right on time every day. His sub-contractors he used for some the work were nice and very respectful. During the project we had scheduled a window installation in our master bath. He worked with the window installers so they could get the window in and not affect timing on the completion of his project. He completed the project in the timeframe he estimated. Overall the quality of work was outstanding. Ted followed up on completion of the project and if there were any issues. There were a couple of small issues with the countertop installation which he came out quickly and took care of. Ted is certainly one of the best contractors I have dealt with. I would use him again and have recommended him to some of my other family members for work they are interested in having done.
Description of Work: Ted: Completely gutted and refinished our master bathroom, organized the installation of new countertops and sinks in our other bathrooms, installed a light in the shower in our main bath and performed some other general repairs needed around the house.

They did good work for our neighbors so we decided to use them. We like the owner...he responded very quickly and he's very professional.
Description of Work: They are in the process of refinishing our basement.
Working with Ted Braboy from Put a Smile on Your Place was a great experience from start to finish. He and his crew were timely, professional, and a joy to be around. When starting this project I contacted three contractors for estimates. Ted was the only one who made us feel that he would be working to improve our home. The feeling we got from the other contractors was that this would just be a job and paycheck to them. Ted took precise measurements, rather than eyeball it like the others, on his fist visit and provided us with detailed drawings. Once we select him to perform the work, he was with us every step of the way from picking out the new kitchen cabinets and granite counter top, to pulling the permits, and even putting on multiple coats of paint so that the job was done right. He and his crew were in constant communication with us, informing us of what phase of the project they were working on and when it would be completed. The painting was an extremely difficult job as there was a lot of stained wood trim and wallpaper to deal with. The original builder had applied the wallpaper directly to the drywall without priming or painting it first, thus when the wallpaper came down some of the drywall was damaged. Ted and his crew repaired the drywall and did a beautiful job at painting the walls and wood trim. Our new floor looks great. Ted an his crew took the time necessary to install it correctly and it shows. There are no gaps, bumps, or loose carpeting and it is very quite due to the high quality padding that Ted used. Due to Ted's experience, professionalism, timeliness, and tidiness, the overall experience was 100% better than I thought it would be. I highly recommend Put a Smile on Your Place Construction and will be using them again this year when it comes time for more painting and remodeling the bathrooms.
Description of Work: Put a Smile on Your Place completely remodeled the kitchen, painted the interior, and instilled a new wood floor on the first floor
Their sub contractors were reputable and followed through. Ted is creative and figures out ways to incorporate good design with the functions you need, or obstacles that others may not want to tackle. (He suggested a built-in raised seating area over a sewer pipe we needed access to, and had great suggestions for improving the workspace I needed for computer/crafts/desk/storage.) I have had no problems occur, and receive many compliments on the area. It is not a "basement" It is a beautiful lower level which serves as a great entertaining space. My grandchildren love it, and have all their birthday parties here. I live in a condo development where many people have the same space to work with. But everyone who visits says , "Wow, I never would have thought of doing it that way....this is beautiful", and next, "who was your contractor?". There are several other units who have used this company and each one has a unique design. In addition to all this, you can look forward to the contractors arriving each day, and Ted sings while he saws! All contractors experience delays, but we had very few, and they communicated frequently so you could plan. I ended up going on a trip to Tahiti while a lot of the work was going on. The only hassles I had were with getting the approvals of our association, but Ted was able to provide all the drawings we needed to comply. He had the respect of the Township officials and inspectors, and knew the codes.
