We are not usually home when they come to make the repairs, we pay them
by phone so no need to stay home and wait for repair people to show up.
We are very happy overall with our solar system, they did a nice job. Not
too many companies do this so I think their service call charge is a bit
high, and they benefit from a lack of competition in the area, but they
are very professional and we will continue to use them for our system.
put protective tarps on all surfaces
efficiently and professionally installed 2 solatubes
polite, professional and careful with our home
consulted us when needed and completed the install
cleaned up and left us with no mess at all
very very pleased with the additional light that 2 rooms in our home now have
back office and scheduling went very smoothly
The installation was very smooth. The 2 man crew arrived when they said they would and worked consistently for 3 hours doing a very efficient job. They spread a tarp over the hardwood floors in the kitchen and cleaned up all their mess at the end of the job. They even swept up the garage floor from the insulation that fell out of the attic when they were working. They answered all my mother's questions as the work went on. They brought 3 different lens covers and showed all of them to my mother for her decision as to which one she liked. They took away all of the cardboard boxes and did not leave her anything to get rid of. Over all, they were very professional and my mother would highly recommend them to anyone interested in that product.
The salesman, at their office was very patient in answering my mother's questions and she had a lot of them- everyone in the office was very professional and polite.

The light tubes provide more than enough light for working in the kitchen with no lights on (on a bright day in May) from mid-morning to early evening. I found that light tubes have their limitations; all of the light points down, so the ceiling and upper inside corners are all dark, giving the room an odd look with both the natural light, and from the electric light kit.
.
The light tubes themselves have a major design flaw that hasn't been addressed; at night, the outside domes of the light tubes (the ones with the optional electric light kit) shine brightly on the side of the second story of our neighbor's house - making me guilty of and quot;light trespassand quot;. They light up the tree overhead, and they light up the roofline of my other neighbor - all significantly. The neighbors haven't complained, but Solatube needs to address their and quot;light trespassand quot; issue, and Solatube didn't seem to give a flying hoot when I brought it to their attention. There is plenty Solatube could do to reduce or eliminate the light pollution they give off, but they dismissed it out of hand.
.
The installation is in the very good to excellent range. The most important test is what it does over the next year. If anything changes or leaks water, I'll be sure to write another review.
"I am disappointed to hear what Solatube's response was to the customers complaint but understand the problem. If they shield the light kit from throwing light out the top of the tube the same shield will prevent the sunlight from entering the Solatube restricting lighting the home in the daytime. The light is positioned in the center of the tube so it can light the room at night. The amazing reflectivity of the tube that provides daylighting would also throw the light out the tube. The only solution to this model, is to not have a light inside the tube and as a separate light. Solatube has just recently come out with a new model that has 4 LED lights integrated into the sides of a fluted bottom lens which allows them to shield the reflection of these downwards instead of in every direction. The standard models have a straight 10" or 14" tube from top to bottom, the new LED tube has a 10" tube with a flared 14" base allowing for the shading of the light without restricting the sun from traveling down the tube. Some light may still escape but the majority is focused downward into the home. Solatube is the top of the line product that we stand behind and we will talk to our sales rep about our customers concern."
"Mechanical Energy Systems can not make the system live with a grid-tied system. That is up to the local utility company and there is a 6 week window they give themselves to install the generation meter and connect it to the grid. If there is a bad storm or other utility problem these same employees work on the grid to get it up and running first. Fallen lines and homes without power take priority. Installation of solar meters is sometimes delayed. We wish it was a faster system and many customers find this period frustrating but once the installation is in (our part) we all have to wait for the utility company. City inspectors are all learning about these new installations and have different concerns. Mechanical Energy Systems is right by our customers side to promote the approval of inspectors and move the projects along. We work diligently to be sure all systems pass inspections smoothly through attending city ordinance meetings, meeting with inspectors, meeting with historic boards, insurance companies, roofers and any other groups. Inspection vary from city to city and something new always pops up. We handle many of the details and sometimes the time frame is not established by us."
