Ben, Came over made a trip to our place, late in the evening after he just left another appointment, at the last minute. He Ddd an assessment of where the problem and made suggestions as to what our next steps should be and who we needed to contact.

It didn't. Company never return an of my inquiries for an estimate or service despite numerous attempts to contact via Angie's List and his website.

Excellent workmanship. Pleasant and professional. I would highly recommend his services to others and will use his services in the future.

I contacted Ben to do a window re-installation in my side entry door. He was able to come out within a couple days and came out as scheduled. He looked at the issue and made inquiries about the availability of materials immediately. There were two options available he gave me both scenarios, with pricing for each. One option allowed the repair to be done that day and Ben picked up the material and completed the repair promptly. The service was very professional all around. I highly recommend Ben for anyone looking for home repairs.

Ben and Ron arrived on time and started to take the display apart and bag up and haul out to the garage everything from the bedroom and there was a lot trash involved after everything was hauled out they cleaned up the room . Ben came back a few days later to repair the drywall everything was done professionally . Ben takes pride in doing the job the right way.

In most respects, it was an excellent experience. Ben is very knowledgeable in a wide range of the house construction trades, with many years of experience, so he was a great choice for doing a wide-ranging upgrade like this. In addition to his work, he was able to provide valuable guidance on the selection of materials, or other alternative approaches that could save money. For instance, when it came to installing screen doors, he recommended that we buy them from Home Depot and use the Home Depot installation service because their price was better than what he could do it for. I really appreciate that kind of honesty and helpfulness. Having access to his knowledge, for instance, of a good place to buy kitchen cabinets (which was a major part of the whole job) saved a lot of time and avoided a lot of potential problems. Another great thing was that he was not trying to nickel & dime you for every little extra. I did spend a lot of time beforehand trying to list each item of work that needed to be done, and he spent a fair amount of time before the contract was signed providing individual prices for the items, so that things were pretty well scoped out. (Detailed contracts always help to minimize potential areas of misunderstanding. ) But inevitably in such a large job, some additional things would come up, or some changes to the scope would occur. For the little ones, it was simply "No charge". (Likewise, when there were some minor things in the original contract that did NOT need to be done, I let those go without asking for a credit, so it works both ways.) However, one thing that Angie's List users should know: Ben is a one-man operation. This, of course, enables him to keep his prices low, since he has very little overhead. He will occasionally sub-contract some of the work to some friends or other he knows, who are also very well-qualified. But he generally does not have the option of shortening the schedule by simply adding extra manpower to the job in the way that a larger firm would. He also has family responsibilities, so there are limits on the overtime/weekend work option. If there is a delay for some reason in the middle of the job, chances are very good that it will delay the end date of the job. So keep this in mind if you are doing a job that is "time-critical". (In our case, delays from the landscaper and the realtor matched the delays in Ben's work, so the fact that the work went on about 3 weeks longer than originally planned was not a huge problem.) In the end, though, all of the work was done to a high standard, and the final price was almost exactly the same as the contract amount, since the major extras were neutralized by ways we found to reduce the costs in some areas. So, I was very happy with the final outcome. And, on the bottom line: The house must have looked pretty good, because we got an offer from a buyer on the first weekend it went on the market, and were able to settle on a price that was more than 99% of the asking price. So, the money spent on the improvements turned out to be a wise investment.

He didn't think ahead. Not aware to ask obvious questions, such as what type of electrical outlet he was to replace, happened twice and necessitating two trips by him to hardware store on my time. One elctrical job he didn't even know how to do.

Ben has been my go-to guy for interior handyman work, plus this job which happend to be an outside step. He communicates well, does a great job, and sends digital photos of the finished job when I can't be at the location.

It went great (see details provided above). We will be calling Ben again.

Like I said...he was very efficient and got the job done in 13 days, which, was great for us since we had to stay at a hotel.

He was a really nice guy and he lives in my neighborhood. He clearly knows his stuff. He has a lot of experience and I thought he did a good job on what he did. He sometimes was not so prompt on calling me back but I could understand reasons why he said he was at that time. I think he is quite busy.

I initially called 2 Electricians, but I did not get a return call and the other electrician could not make an appointment for 2 weeks. Even though this was not an emergency, not having lights in our laundry room was annoying and I hoped to get it fixed sooner than 2 weeks. I found Ben Widman through Angie's list. He called me back within 24 hrs. He was very nice and even though he was booked with other jobs, he tried to figure out a way to schedule a time to come by as soon as he could. We initially scheduled a time in 3 days, since that was the earliest he could do it, but, he called back within the hour and was able to come over within 15 mins. due to another job finishing up earlier than he thought. The only expectation at the time was to try and figure out what the problem was, but due to his efficiency and knowledge of electrical wiring, he was able to assess the problem and find the solution within an hour. He was very professional and he was clear in explaining what steps he was taking, and where some of the problem areas may be. I was able to gain a general understanding of how our lights were wired and how it "should" be wired. I will definitely use Widman Building and Home Services again, when needed. The cost was more than reasonable and he does great work. I would recommend him for sure, it's just that you have to expect he is going to be busy (probably because he does really good work) and may or may not be able to do the work as soon as you want it--in my case, it worked out perfectly. Ben returned my call promptly and talked about what the job entailed. He was able to determine the job could be done in a few hours and the estimated cost per hour. We were both going on vacation and determined a date to contact after we returned. Ben was able to do the work within a few days of the call. He arrived at the time determined and pulled in another person to assist. The job was completed in the time estimated and under the expected cost. We were happy with all aspects of the work and the friendly professionalism Ben demonstrated.

Each project went extremely well. I appreciated Ben's attention to detail...especially identifying work that was done in the past incorrectly and fixing it.

They were honest and told us that there was a better solution that what they could do.

I give Ben a positive, but mixed, review. Ben seemed to do a thorough job in examining the house for us and made some helpful recommendations ... That said, he didn't give us an estimate to do some of the handymen projects as he said he would. (Exterior painting and repair work, interior doors, handrails, etc.) I went ahead and had some of them done by somebody else, but if he was too busy to do it, he should have said so. I understand that most people who are good at their handymen work are overbooked and don't have time to take all jobs. For that, I give him an A-. He is very professional and knowledgeable.

I would give them all A's except for the price.
