We had a new roof installed by Tichenor, Inc. aka. Battle Creek Roofing in late 2012. Our roof has consistently leaked since that time, and they are unable to correct the problem. Our roof was purchased in October 2012. Contract was signed on 10/12/2012. Prior to completing the contract we met with salesperson. from Tichenor, Inc. We had specific discussions regarding the roof in the "sun room". This room has a low slope with four skylights and a wood stove exhaust. The prior owner had a commercial type flat roof in this section. I expressed that we were willing to invest whatever was necessary to avoid issues. We were assured that Tichenor, Inc. had the expertise to complete this work, and that they had "never had a roof that leaked". The roof was installed and we paid in full on 12/14/2012 with a credit card. The leaks started soon after the roof work was completed, and we have worked with Tichenor, Inc. to get repairs complete that would prevent water from causing further interior damage in our home. We have experienced leaks around all four skylights, and at the wood stove pipe in all types of weather. Tichenor, Inc. did complete repairs on a number of occasions. On more than one occasion Tichenor Inc.staff water-tested the skylights and they did not leak from the top of the light. It has now been more than two and one half years with leaks in every season. We have asked to have this entire portion of the roof re-roofed so we can be assured that the work is done correctly and prevents water penetration in our home. On 9/8/2014 we met with our sales person and Heath Tichenor of the owners of the company. The owner was unwilling to re-roof the entire section of the roof, and suggested that we coat this section of the roof with a polymer to seal it at additional cost. They did complete some repairs at this time. On January 7th, 2015 we experienced leaks near two skylights and the wood stove, On March 8th 2015 I contacted the owner again as we had leaks at the wood stove, near a skylight and several spots in between. The owner left me a voice mail on 3/10/15. Claims he cannot warrantee the roof and that all the leaks are caused by the skylight and wood stove exhaust. We have completely lost faith in the ability of Tichenor, Inc, to complete repairs, and after multiple inspections by other professionals have found numerous workmanship issues with most of the roof. We have an unresolved claim with the Better Business Bureau, and have been forced to open a claim with Owens Corning due to poor workmanship. Additional issues with this providers work include: 1. Failure to pull a building permit as indicated in their contract and verified with the Texas Township Building inspector. 2. Provider advertised they were members of the Better Business Bureau on their website, when this was not accurate, as verified with the Better Business Bureau of West Michigan. 3. Refusal to honor their warranty 4. Improper installation of gutters 5. Missed flashing in several places 6. Ice and water shield not installed correctly 7. Numerous nails not removed during tear off that now have damaged shingles 8. Missed row of shingles on ridge vent Update to our review: After more than two years of attempting to get our multiple roof leaks resolved with Tichenor, Inc. / Battle Creek Roofing, and their ultimate refusal to honor their warranty; we filed a claim with the manufacturer Owens Corning. Two independent inspections were completed by Owens Corning and they determined that the workmanship completed by Tichenor Inc. / Battle Creek Roofing was so incompetent that the entire roof had to be re-roofed. During this process we discovered multiple installation errors that caused additional wood rot, including some sections which had never been nailed. Although Owens Corning is paying for the re-roofing, we have endured three years of damage to the inside of our home, countless hours of lost work, and additional expenses to resolve this issue. Heath Tichenor refused to re-roof when we requested, instead he blamed our roof, his crew, and global warming for the constant leaks. He was, at best condescending and unhelpful while trying to get this issue resolved. I cannot state strongly enough to avoid this contractor at all costs!

Again, Heath Tichenor was very helpful and professional. We have not yet used his services because we are still dealing with the insurance company about what is the appropriate claim for the damage.

I had 2 shingles blow off from high winds. I called Tichenor to come out and give me an estimate, the rep. from Tichenor came out and gave me an estimate of around $320. This was for labor only as I had the shingles It seem high but at the time I didn't know , so I hire them to do the work. Two workers came out to do the work it took 10 to 15 min. to do the job. I thought that for that short of time to do the job it would come in under estimate. No when I got the bill it was for around $320. This year I had another 2 shingles blow off . I called another company. The person from that company came out and took a look . He said he could take care of it right then for $90. He did the work and the cost was only $90. I am having this company do some more work for me and will write a review on them when the work is done. Tichenor s work was fine. But the cost was way out of line.

Heath took pictures of my house, showed me samples from different manufacturers. I picked out the color and manufacturer I wanted. He gave me a verbal estimate of the cost. He asked information on my income because he said it would be needed for the financing. I had very little info ready for him because I didn't expect anything to be done before I received and signed a written estimate. He told me he would have the written estimate to me within a few days. I had not heard from him when I got a call from MSU Federal Credit Union to inform me that my income was insufficient for them to finance my project. If one can be livid over the phone, that's what I was! I called Heath to find out why he had submitted the project for financing when he had never had a written estimate that I looked at and approved. ( I got the impression that it should have been enough for me to accept the numbers he had written on a sheet of paper that he took with him.) There were no details of anything; only the $25,000 he said the project would cost. He said there was so much involved in writing up the estimate he would save time and just try to get it financed. If they wouldn't finance the whole project, he could pare it down to an amount they would finance. I never heard from him again. This company had replaced my flat roof years ago and I couldn't have been more satisfied with their professionalism and curtesy. After my encounter with Heath, I think the difference was that the roofers' last name was not Tichenor.

This project started in September 2011 when I asked for estimates on roofing and windows. The sales staff was pleasant and helpfull, didn't try to hard sell and listened to my concerns. After looking the house over, it was suggested I start with a home energy audit to pin point the areas the needed the most help. Since it was the end of summer the suggestion was to wait until it got cold to do the audit, and that they would call to set up the appointment. I waited... and waited for them to call back, but I finally called them to prod them into action. Once set up, the audit progressed smoothly, and the crew was professional, quick and efficient. Again I was told to expect a report, and a call back for the next steps to take, ( insulation, windows etc...) but I still have not been able to get in touch with anyone there. I call and leave voice mail, but I still have not spoken with a "live" person. I feel as though the job I have would be too small, and that is why they don't seem interested. The original estimatesfor the roof came back, and they were 25% to 40 % higher than any other estimate I recieved last year for the same work.

The guy gave me a rough quote and said he would get me a formal estimate and then he never got back to me so I forgot them and went with somebody else. I called their office twice to see where my quote was. They were not the low bidder. I would not recommend them. They did come out in a fairly short period of time but that was the sum total of it. It was very unprofessional not to contact me back.

They do a variety of things. I liked the actual roofing process since it was good. The crew did a good job. There were two groups that came out. On the whole, they did a good job. However, they did a poor job on the contracting process. The person I worked with was unprofessional. He ended up tearing off our cedar shakes on our two dormers on our roof, which he had told me that they would remove and then replace. Then they put new shakes and all totaled up to about $5000. We had similar problems with the copper gutters on our house. He wrote in the contract that the gutters would be removed and then replaced. The gutters had a different attachment system than the one available today. He had difficulty in replacing that. So, we ended up buying new gutters. We were told that the roof shingles would be recycled, but they weren’t. We found that out from the person who came to our house to pick up the dumpster. The person in charge of the whole contracting process was very unprofessional and he made a number of mistakes. There were a lot of add-ons to the price. The actual roofers were good, but the contracting person was bad. He was somewhat responsive later on. However, on the whole, I wouldn’t use their services again based on my experience.

Took longer then predicted, had a shortage of material, and missed repairs on a few dips in the roofing deck. Had to provide material to repair damage they did, even thou it was minor, just seemed a little careless. Equipment failure occurred, because of disregard for load and use limits, with a failure to inspect before moving. Roof looks good, and they have a strong manufactures backing. Helped with getting us money back on the old roofing which failed before it's time. Would recommend as the workmen did do a good job.

It’s a home improvement company. They do roofing, chimney work, windows, gutters, downspouts and all that kind of stuff. We have worked very closely with them for the last couple of years. I would highly recommend them. In fact, two of our neighbors contracted them for work after we used them. They asked me about them and I told them to use them. They have a very good reputation. They are in Battle Creek, Michigan and that’s their home base. Their services are great. The people that work for them clean up very well. Their products are fairly priced and are of high quality. They are local. They have been in business for quite a while. I had another company come and give me an estimate for windows. That company was impersonal and not nearly as dedicated as the people from Tichenor were. This was in terms of what jobs they were doing and what kinds of things they could offer as far as windows were concerned. They did a super job when they worked on our gutters. We discussed it before the work was done. They explained what they could do and how they could make it work a little bit better for us. Our house is old and was built in 69. So the improvements were for the enhancement of the house for the rest of its life. The chimney work was kind of hard to do since they were dealing with brick. I was concerned if they would break something while they were removing the old bricks, but they didn’t. They were very meticulous about how they took apart the chimney and put it back together. That was an introduction to their work and we were very impressed. So I called them back when we had other things that needed to be done. I wouldn’t hesitate to call them again. Our roof has been fine so far. If I need to have the roof replaced again, then I would call Tichenor to give me an estimate for the roofing job. I have recommended them to others and I would definitely use their services in the future too.

Their estimate for a new roof ($17,972 including tear off of old roof) was 40% higher than any of the other three estimates I got for the job. I exchanged a number of e-mails with their rep trying to understand the huge difference. There were a number of seeming problems with their estimate (roof size they used was larger than anyone else calculated; they said there would be a discount if we did the whole roof, but the discount was not shown on the estimate). When I questioned these items they quit responding. The company we wound up choosing (Advantage Roofing) provided a better warranty, uses their own employees (not sub-contractors), and had excellent references. Their bid was a little over $11,000 and included a number of items that were not in the Battle Creek Roofing bid.
