Erik, the owner, was extremely easy to work with, developed a beautiful plan for the patio, and carried everything out in the most professional way possible. He clearly has excellent planning skills, experience and attention to detail and it all came though in the finished product and in his communication with me throughout the process. I was hoping that the patio would be done in time for a party I had planned, and despite the short timeline, the job was done in plenty of time. I wanted a high quality area to spend time in my yard, and that is exactly what I have. I was tempted to jump up and down when I saw it finished!
Description of Work: Northern Landscaping created a patio and path (~250 sq ft) using paving stones, as well as surrounding planting beds in my backyard. As part of the work they also removed a section of chain link fence between my driveway and yard.

 + -1 moreI had been told that Eric was a perfectionist when I called Hammond Farms for a recommendation, which is one of the main reasons I got in touch with him. Not only is he a perfectionist but also a creative genius. The courtyard is gorgeous. Eric consulted with my husband and me on every single detail, offering his professional guidance and recommendations as he did so. He has working for him a man with a work ethic I have seldom encountered before. Between the two of them they astonished me with how hard and carefully they worked; everything is indeed perfect. Eric not only knows how to build patios but he knows his trees, shrubs and perennials. I was very impressed by the fact that he knew even the most unusual of my hundreds of plants. He also advised me on what to buy to fill in the new spaces that his design has opened up in my gardens. I cannot recommend him highly enough. He knows his business inside and out and is a delight to work with.
Description of Work: The owner, D. Erick Smith, designed and installed a patterned stone patio with three flagstone paths that wind through my established perennial gardens, creating a courtyard that connects my new addition to our house. (For a description of the addition, see my review of Jack Duncan Palmer Builder who designed and built my art studio and envisioned its having a courtyard.) Eric, who was on site almost continuously, spread mulch in the gardens and used it as a base for the flagstones, which pulls everything together to make a cohesive and aesthetically pleasing unit. The mulched area is surrounded by heavy duty landscape edging. The patio is surrounded by a flexible metal edging. He also connected all the downspouts to an underground drainage system to prevent erosion. Finally, he repaired the lawn that had been torn up by the construction of the addition by adding new topsoil, correcting the grade and planting grass seed. In order to build the patio he had to temporarily remove mature shrubs and perennial plants, which he placed in heavy duty plastic containers and put in the shade of our spruce trees. In consultation with me, he replanted everything after the hardscaping was finished.

Description of Work: Built stone planters around perimeter of sun room extending four feet from base of the walls. Approximately 70 linear feet and 4 stones high plus cap. Filled with soil. Built stone step into garage with a 9 by 12 foot flagstone patio area at entrance to sunroom and an attached 4 foot wide flagstone walkway extending the length of garage on the east and an additional 4 foot wide flagstone walkway extending the length of the house on the west side of planters.
