They arrived on time. I looked over their job and they did a really nice job. They even tried to match the style and color of the replacement valves to those still in place. Their price was good, it was definitely one of the influencing factors when we chose them. They came one day after we made the request so they were very prompt despite us not even really having a very pressing issue.
Description of Work: We had several valves that were completely corroded in our water storage tank and when I tried to turn it off, the valve completely cracked. So he replaced the valves and a water tank on our toiler.

Our sump pump stopped working, so we had a sump pump problem. The backup system worked well, though, and we didn't have a water problem except that it drained to the side of the house causing erosion instead of to the back of the house through the French drain. (The main sump pump drains to the back; the backup sump pump drains to the side.) Now that our over six feet of snow is starting to melt, however, the backup pump was working overtime just to keep up. It was noisy and loud and running almost constantly. It seemed like it wouldn't take a lot more before our sump pump problem became a basement flooding problem! I called Olde Towne Plumbing about mid-afternoon today and explained the situation. They sent Blaine out within a half hour, and in very little time, the job was done, much sooner than I expected. Both the office and the repairman were pleasant, helpful, and very responsive to my problem and Blaine made sure that I wouldn't spend any more time worrying about it. Our sump pump was originally installed when the house was built over twenty years ago; we've been lucky it lasted so long. The new pump is a technological improvement over the old one. I'm hoping it will last a long time, too. Now it's a lot quieter at my house and I'm very pleased with the new pump and with the service.
Description of Work: The provider replaced an old non-working sump pump with a new one.

It went very well. We're selling the house and needed to get this work done quickly. They were out the next day, and were able to get the work done well under an hour. I did pay for something I could do, but since we are selling it was less risky for us to have a pro do it. I will hire Olde Towne for any future plumbing work we need at our next house.

They were absolutely terrific. I was in a terrible time crunch and they totally accommodated my tight schedule. They were friendly, efficient, focused, and answered all my questions. I always ask if there was anything I could have done differently to prevent the problems. When they learned I hadn't done anything to the pipes since I bought my condo 18 years ago, they said I was incredibly lucky as Ann Arbor water is really hard which is tough on pipes. I was especially grateful that they carried the replacement faucet on their truck so that I could get the work completed asap. It is a plain vanilla Delta faucet that works GREAT! I also told them I wanted to eventually replace my two toilets with energy-efficient ones and they gave good advice about what to look for so when it's time for me to schedule that work, they will get the job.
Description of Work: They replaced my kitchen faucet (the handle had snapped off), replaced 3 connected pipes that were failing, and repaired a leak.

It went well, with the work quickly and cleanly done.|When there were any decisions to be made--repair vs. replacement, options about equipment, nature of installation, etc.--they explained options well and left them up to us rather than just choosing one on their own. They even found an excuse to reduce the total charge slightly. I'm completely satisfied with work they've done for us, on this and other occasions.

I detected a sewage-type smell in our basement and thought it might be the sewage ejector pump. I called and left messages with two plumbers. The first called me back and said they didn't do work on sewage ejector pumps (despite claiming that they handle all plumbing issues from "sinks to sewers'). Old Towne called back and scheduled a time two days hence. They requested that I not use that bathroom in case the pump was at issue. They called on the day to let me know that he was on his way just inside the beginning of the appointment window. He came and took the pump apart, determining that it was problematic, but that there was inadequate sealing in that area. He resealed the area with silicone and adjusted a toilet to make it flush better. The problem has been fixed, and I will definitely call them again if I have a problem!
Description of Work: Resealed the place where the sewage ejector pump goes into the main septic line and adjust the flush on a toiled.

Called in the morning of the coldest day of the year knowing they'd be rather booked. Dan answered the phone and gave me some suggestions while his scheduler was on another line. They put me on a list of appointments and said they'd call when on their way. Given the temperatures, I knew this would be a busy day and I was not upset at not having a time window. They showed up without calling, but I have no problem with that as they came much earlier than I thought they would. It took them 2 seconds to unfreeze the pipe and again Dan (who was on this call himself) gave some suggestions on how to keep it from freezing again. He also did me a favor and looked at two other smaller issues. One we left alone and the other (the toilet bowl) he went to work on. It was problematic as the person who installed it apparently did it incorrectly and it caused problems with leakage and getting the bowl back on the seat correctly. Dan worked it out and what I found most impressive was how he was showing and teaching his apprentice (who was very nice) while he was doing it. The toilet seat is much more secure and I can now take a hot shower. Would recommend and use again in the future.

Fixed leaking water pipe and attempted to fix other small leak. | |Generally the crew was fine, but I thought the senior plumber worked a bit too fast - like he had a deadline: at one point they turned the water on before realizing they didn't solder the final connection. | |They didn't check the second leak (a valve with my hose tap) just tightened a nut; it turned out that the leak was from the drain on the valve, which I ended up tightening after they left. They could have, and should have checked it, but as I said, seemed like they were on a strict schedule. | |That said, the work done was done well enough, and I'd call them again. | |Also, I felt the senior plumber was quite demeaning with his apprentice. I felt embarrassed for the apprentice, having to put up with him all the time. |

Thank You sir for your review. The senior plumber is new with us and has only worked with us a few months. It is good to receive this feedback, I will speak with this plumber and request that he be more thorough with his work and do not rush through any job. As far as how he talked to the apprentice, they maintain a good relationship and I would hope that the senior plumber would never demean a fellow worker. I will speak to the senior plumber and let him know that how he conducts himself on the job is a reflection of our company, and here at Olde Towne Plumbing we can do a better job. I called at 8:30 in the morning, and they had someone at my place an hour and a half later, he had called prior to arriving to inquire about the type of piping in the house. Although getting into the crawlspace is a pretty acrobatic feat, he mentioned that it wasn't as bad as he was expecting, I'm guessing some crawlspaces have much less head room. He was in and out of there in well under an hour. I was expecting to have to replace the entire pipe section, but it was only a small replacement. Prices were quoted over the phone, so there were no surprises. One thing to note is that they are a cash or check only, so have that handy. Thanks Olde Towne for your super quick response and very fast work.
Description of Work: A frozen pipe had burst in the crawl space underneath the kitchen which is an expansion to the house that has no other entrance except via a trapdoor under the refrigerator. The plumber took the burst section out and replaced it tout de suite.

My home is a small trilevel and was built in 1944. After a pipe break, we did an inspection and determined it made sense to replaced the water supply system. Old Towne replaced the system, in copper (my request), and added hose bib to back deck. It was a large job and unfortunately took one full day longer than quoted, but they did a great job. The plumbers were professional and explained every step of the process until the permit was signed-off.

I had Olde Towne Plumbing install a rear outlet toilet, not the typical installation for this area. I e-mailed the installation instructions for this particular brand of toilet to Olde Towne. Dan reviewed these and discussed this installation with me over the phone. I was not charged for these phone communications. The crew (Dan, Mark, & Greg) showed up on time, in fact a little early, to start the job. They put cloths down throughout the house so that my floors and carpet would be protected. They explained to me what they would be doing and made suggestions on improving the installation. The job was completed in a timely fashion and they throughly cleaned up afterward. I wouldn't hesitate to use Olde Towne Plumbing on future projects.

Came into the house without even a screwdriver, then asked for a screwdriver to access the tub, huh? When a visual inspection did not show any obvious water, they filled up the tub and said "leave it full for 2 weeks, if it leaks then you know its a problem"...THEN LEFT! Charged me a service call fee ($65). Within 5 minutes, I had water seaping from the ceiling below. They warned me that "we might have to pull out the tub, it could be a "major" job, etc, etc." Called another plumber (a real old town plumber), and he found the problem to be a worn out seal and caulking around the drain. Actually got down on his knees and spent some time to look for the problem. Thankfully a very simple fix.

Upon entry to the home I, (Dan Kofahl owner of Olde Towne Plumbing) and my apprentice removed our shoes and were shown the area where water had come through the ceiling. All was dry. We were taken upstairs to the second floor and shown the tiled in whirlpool tub. The plumbing end of the tub had no access to service the faucet or the drain. There was a side panel that could be removed to look inside. The home owner said it had been off in the past for someone to fix a leaking jet, we saw we needed a screw driver, (I could have easily sent my apprentice to the truck to get one, the home owner indicated they had one instead. Once the panel was removed we ran the water and looked for leaks, there were none. Then we filled the tub to the overflow allowing the water to go into the overflow, no leaks. While we were testing the tub the home owner said they had the window overlooking the tub caulked and repaired because it had leaked, we opened the window and looked at the glazing and caulking on the exterior. We obtained an inspection mirror on an 18” extendable rod (from our truck) and with a light looked at the plumbing at the head of the tub, No leak. Then we drained the tub, no leak. Because the tub is jetted and has multiple jets running all around the tub, (after not finding any leaks) I made the suggestion that to test the jets one would fill the tub with water and let the water set for a day or so. If leaks were to then show up and it was one of the jets that were not accessible, the tub may need to be removed to get to the jet. As we were about to leave, we all looked again at the ceiling and it was dry, NO LEAK, this was witnessed by all. We were there 30 to 45 minutes our rate is $65.00 to the door and $100.00 per hour, we only charged the service fee and no time. I would have hoped that when the home owner saw water (5 minutes after we left?) That she would have called back so we could look further, I am dismayed that the home owner post a F report with-out revealing all the facts of our visit, My knees may be tired and old but both myself and the apprentice were on our knees looking at this tub. We cannot make water leaks show up at will, obviously it took a little more time for the leaking to show up, we would have gladly returned to take care of the problem, had we been given the chance.

I was happy with both services. With the sewage back-up, Olde Towne came immediately to address the issue, and the plumber was very professional. We've had no problems since (they recommended clearing the tree roots from the pipe more frequently). With the report, Dan at Olde Town whited out the name of the people who had hired Olde Towne to do the scope, which I thought was responsible and appropriate. It seemed like a mutually beneficial deal--the company made some extra money, and I saved some.
Description of Work: I've used/interacted with Olde Towne Plumbing on two occasions. The first: my current rented house, in which the sewer line got blocked and sewage backed up into the basement. I'm not sure of the cost, since the landlord paid. The second: a house on which my boyfriend and I had made an offer. We were not the first people to make an offer, and I learned that Olde Towne had done a scope of the sewer line for the prior couple (before they backed out of the house). Knowing that Olde Towne had a good record and wanting to save a bit of money, I asked Olde Towne for the report. Since they owned rights to the report, they sold the written report and video of the scope to me for $69--significantly less than it would have cost to have them come to the house.

We made an appointment to have them fix the vent pipe leaks in the attic. Called the owner to SPECIFICALLY explain the problem and asked to send someone who's experienced and capable doing the job in the attic. They sent someone over two days later. First, the technician didn't get the message that this is a job in the attic, so didn't bring a tall enough ladder....second, the person's physical condition is not suitable working in the attic.....Therefore, they have to find someone else. They are supposed to send someone over the next day, but next day the owner called and apologized that they can't come due to another job that's going to take the rest of the day and suggested us find someone else. After we called another company, they called again and told us that they could send someone over. We ended up still using them. The job was finished quickly with reasonable price. We will have to wait to see if the leak is really fixed.

When the homeowner called it was discussed that there was a leak in the attic from the sewer vent pipe, the home owner had hired a roofer who came and confirmed some sort of leak but he would return and deal with the roof. They also told me at that time that a ladder was there to get us up into the attic. I informed them we were very busy but would try to work them into the schedule, which we did on Thursday the 14th. I had sent an older experienced man who upon arriving at the jobsite realized that it was too much for him for him to get up into this particular attic to look at things. Once we realized this we told the home owner we would call and be back later in the morning, around 11:30 we sent a younger man to look at the problem, before he embarked he called the home owner to alert them he was on his way he got a message machine, no one was home. Around 2:00pm Thursday the home owner called to say she had went back to work and to try to move the visit to the next day. The next day Friday the 15th we were booked solid but believed we could squeeze in the call. Our first calls in the morning turned out to be much more than we anticipated, for the man we were going to send, his first supposed ½ hour call was going to take most of the day, so all of his scheduled calls for the rest of this day were going to be late or moved because we just could not get to them. As the owner when I realized our schedule was falling apart for Friday the 15th I called the home owner, explaining our situation and letting them know that they may want to try to get another plumber. I had to leave a message as no one answered the phone. A short time later the Mr. called and understandably let me have it about the situation, I apologized over and over for this inconvenience, he was somewhat inconsolable. I felt so bad about our scheduling problem that I called the MR. a short time later, apologized again and offered to pay a portion of his bill for whoever he hired to replace us. Then about 1:00 or so we had a plumber free up to be able to go to the home we called left a message again no answer. We sent our man to another call; the Mr. called an hour later and said he would give us another chance. I pulled a crew off of another job at 3:00 pm to go look at the roof vent leak. Once there (using the home owners ladder that was set up and provided) getting into the attic my master plumber observed that the roof vent pipe had been done in a smaller schedule 30 pipe and not the full sized schedule 40 pipe. The roof flashing was designed for schedule 40 pipe and therefore one could see daylight all around the pipe from the inside of the attic. We took pictures of this daylight and showed the Mr. We changed the portion of pipe rising up through the flashing to 3’ Schedule 40 pipe to see if this would solve the problem. We also advised the home owner to have the roofer change the roof flashing on the roof and seal the roof in a better manner. Again we apologize for the communication and scheduling difficulties and we thank the home owner for giving us another chance that day.

Installed a water heater. It went smooth and at the quoted estimate, and they went an extra mile to coordinate with the City Inspector and my very limited schedule. Everything was cleaned up nicely and the staff were sure to tell me how to use the controls and that I could call for help at any time. The office staff were very nice and easy to work with on scheduling.

Provider showed up early but since it was a morning appointment, we were home. Provider listened patiently as we asked a bunch of questions about the plumbing in our home (which we recently moved into), and then got to work on replacing the leaky shutoff valves. We had also hoped that they could handle replacing a coupler on a gas line but since that job looked to be more complicated than they could handle, they referred me to another company. Water shutoffs were repaired and area was cleaned up and left in good condition. Price seemed fair although by no means inexpensive. But this replacement required soldering which was just above our abilities.

I was very pleased by how quickly Dan was able to send out a plumber. I found the plumber, Blaine, to be courteous, neat, and efficient. After a mediocre experience with Mitch the Plumber's team, I encourage people to try Old Towne.
Description of Work: I had a number of plumbing issues. I had a 45 year old shower fixture that was leaking and had to be replaced. This repair was difficult as the fixture had to be accessed by going through the wall of the adjacent room. I also had a 45 year old outside spigot that was broken. Again a tough repair as the old faucet was difficult to remove. I had a loose toilet that had to be re-seated by repairing the flange. Mitch the plumber had two different plumbers try to tackle this issue and after spending $150+ with his crew, the repair didn't last year. Old Towne's Blaine did a quality fix that should hold for years. Blaine also fixed a leaky toilet.

My first contact with them was when I first moved into this house 23 years ago and the dishwasher flooded the kitchen. I called Mr Kofaul who told me how to cut off the water and then came immediately to help. I have called them ever since until a few years ago when he sent a repairman who must have been new to the company and this person did not understand the problem and did not fix it, even though he thought he did. Since then we have called our handyman who is experienced with plumbing. I would still call Olde Town if our handyman could not do the work. Olde Town did install our last water heater, which lasted nine years. It just failed and we called DTE to replace it last week.
Description of Work: We have called Olde Town Plumbing for many repairs over the years. Lately we have relied on a handyman or GTE, but Olde Town's services have always been professional and punctual. On one occasion they sent someone who did not seem to understand the problem, which was that the pipes underground were clogged. At that time we met our current handyman who did the work for us. It was very expensive and extensive, but the clogged bathtub drain was finally repaired.

Extremely professional and knowledgable. Very punctual and reliable. I use them for all plumbing needs.
Description of Work: Water heater pilot went out. After multiple attempts couldn't get it relit. Old Towne Came out and fixed it. Showed me how to finesse it and gave me a lesson on water heaters, replacement, etc. Also replaced a pipe in the basement for us a couple years ago. And had a look at a poorly functioning toilet.

I had called several other places throughout the day and this was the first one that called me back, and she called back right away. By this time it was almost 3pm; the plumber was at my house before 4. The plumber (Chris if I remember) was very courteous, took care to protect the floors from his equipment, explained what he was doing, and most importantly, got the drains running again quickly. I'm not sure about the cost, I didn't have much opportunity to get other quotes since nobody else called back, but $265 seems reasonable to be able to use my plumbing.
Description of Work: Unclogged sewer main (was backing up through floor drains in basement).
