+ -1 moreOverall, this was a disappointing estimate, particularly given the damage done to our brand new gutter on an initial inspection. This obviously made us concerned about the care Mr. Roof would take on a much larger project. None of the other inspectors caused damage to our home. Moreover, all had better follow through, appeared to do a more thorough inspection and told us the price of roofing in more timely manner.
Description of Work: We had several companies come out to provide estimate for putting in a new roof for our home. Our experience with Mr. Roof was the worst by far. The person doing the estimate scratched one of our recently installed, brand new gutters. This was surprising given his claim that Mr. Roof took care when they had their crews out to install a new roof to make sure gutters and rest of house was protected. Although the salesman took a long time telling us about what Mr. Roof offers, he neglected to examine part of the roof, e.g, rubber roof area and only added this into estimate when we brought this up. While Thunder Guard is a Time Tested Class 4 Impact Resistant Shingle, we found in checking with our home owners insurance policy that we could get 6% off for various shingles/roofs. The written material provided is clearer about State Farm but verbally it sounded as if going with more expensive Thunder Guard Shingle would specifically reduce our premiums. Also, the gentleman inspecting our roof made a major issue about offering us his cell phone number for quicker access but when we called and left a message, several days have gone by with no response. Also, toward the end of a very long description about what Mr. Roof does including local celebrities endorsing Mr. Roof, we asked to 'cut to the chase' and what the bottom line/price was. He would not tell us, saying he would get to this. When he finally discussed the cost, it was more than the other roofing company estimates we had received with shingles that our insurance company also told us would give us a 6% discount off homeowners premium.

+ -1 moreThe sales guy was good and went over everything with us. They gave us a pretty good price. They were on time and put the roof on both of them in about 5 hours and they cleaned up as well.

They were all over the yard and I was disgusted with them. They did not put any covering on the hedges, flowers or my awning before they took the old roof off.

+ 1 moreI would give this company an A for quality of product/service except I had to keep calling them. Came on time, most work done on first day for house and garage. They had considerable tear off and dealt with some Carpenter ants. They did a super and neat job! Best clean up I have ever experienced. HOWEVER, damage to siding while doing roof was not repaired (poorly) until after 6 calls and threats! Gutter and minor siding was another story took 9 calls and 4 visits to get a passable job!

+ -1 moreThe roof is guaranteed for life or as long as I own the house. Their price was better than other companies. I only went with premium installers because I wanted to have a good job done. The job was 90% done in one day!
Description of Work: They put a new shingle roof on our 4 bedroom 2 bath house. They also put insulation in the attic and put in new gutters. It was a two day job.

Description of Work: They completely replaced the roof over our garage. The shingles were removed and the roof was scraped down to the wood. They re-tarred and laid new shingles. Our roof is 700 square feet.

+ -1 moreI sure wish I had read the Angie's List member comments on this company before signing a contract with them. (Even though they are currently getting an A rating, some of the comments tell the true story.) I had quite a bit of trouble even getting them to return my calls to schedule an estimate -- which should have been my first clue. The salesman was very high pressure and took 2 hours to do his presentation. He explained in detail why our old roof had failed (poor ventilation) and explained how they would install the proper types of vents on each section to correct it. He didn't write all of this on the contract in detail and it turns out that they installation did NOT include the ventilation as he had described it. The work crew was fine, although they used our yard as their bathroom many times during the day. We haven't even contacted them to resolve our problems yet because we know it will be a hassle to get them to return calls. My advice -- stay away from Mr. Roof!

Description of Work: Estimate for a roof replacement. Presentation by Rich Thompson was excellent. We knew what had to be done to the roof and how they were going to do it. We did not have the work done because we were selling the house and wanted to keep our costs down. However if we need to have the roof work done on our home we will definitely have Mr. Roof do the work.

+ -1 moreMr. Roof never honored their promise & received several opportunities to revise their quote, including sending another salesman out to "sharpen their pencils". After another hour sales pitch, the new salesman never provided a quote. Mr. Roof refused to pay the $1000, first stating that the job had to be done in 1 day like they "guarantee". Note: they do not have any remedy when they do not do the job in 24 hours... so this is not a guarantee. I tried to mediate this through the BBB but Mr. Roof would not agree to arbitration. I went to 35th District Court, Plymouth, MI, Case #07P5939SC and won my case, including costs. During the trial, the judge stated a key to his decision would be the reputation of the company: The owner of Mr. Roof came onto my property when asked not to and has previously been convicted of tax fraud in connection with his business (Google Search on Greaves Fraud to view). The judge?s decision supports my opinion that you should not trust this company at any cost!
Description of Work: I had Mr. Roof provide me with a quote to re roof my house and garage; the house required a full tear off, including the original cedar shake shingles. Mr. Roof quoted the job at $17,500 with the house using their "Thundergaurd" lifetime shingle. I then had them revise the quote based on using a 30 year shingle, the exact same Owens-Corning Landmark shingle as others were quoting. Their revised quote was $15,000. They had advertised on TV and in mailings that they would beat your best deal or pay $1000. Their price was over 2 times what at least two others had quoted.

Description of Work: They took off the old shingles, which covered my 1200 square foot home and replaced some boards that needed it. They then installed new upgraded architectural shingles, taking only one day to completely finish this job. All used material and garbage was hauled away by them.

+ -1 moreI was very impressed with the roofing job. They arrived early with nine men and completed the entire job in about 7 hours. I feel the roof was worth the $7,000.00 but it was on the high side and twice the nearest competitor. The fogging for the mold was not worth it and I would not have done it knowing what I do now. It was $5,000.00 and took about 5 minutes. I could see no difference but he assured me that it was done. They said someone would come out 5 days after the job was completed to inspect their work, they never did.
Description of Work: Complete removal of two layers of roof and installed their best roof. Fogged for mold. Cleanup all areas around the house.

+ -1 moreWe scheduled everything for a Saturday, so my three dogs would be out of the way. After they arrived, we found out the insulation truck was in the shop and they would be by "next week." Replacing the shingles was uneventful. It took two more trips back to my house to complete the job. Both times, I received no communication and no notice of their arrival -- they simply showed up when we were at work. When I called Mr. Roof from my office to see what day they might be coming to finish the insulation, I was told that they were at my house AT THAT MOMENT. WITH? They did a "final inspection" of the roof which occurred BEFORE the job was completed. We were not given notice of the final inspection, were not present, and were not given a copy or any documentation of the inspection. (Despite several requests.) We were told the final inspection was not "for our benefit."
Description of Work: Tore off and replaced shingles, replaced gutters and downspouts, installed continuous ridge venting, added additional cellulose insulation, sprayed mold retardant in attic, installed solar vent.

+ -1 moreSalesman showed up on time, but after roof work was completed, failed on numerous occasions to return calls regarding omitted sealing of two sections with caulk and change in gutter work. The work itself was done correctly by the crew but their clean-up was just okay. Main office showed indifference to our requests for a better final clean-up, which never got done and we ended up doing ourselves, and our request for two areas to be sealed with caulk was not addressed in a timely manner.
Description of Work: Tore off roofing from house and garage down to bare wood. Replaced sections of plywood decking. Reroofed whole house and garage. Installed solar fan, vents, and gutters.

+ -1 moreWarranty update: just read the warranty in detail. (since they don t give it to you ahead of time) The salesman will tell you many times that this "will be the last roof you ever buy", no if ands or buts...BUT the warranty doesn t cover ice damage, wind damage or any other severe weather. If that s not bad enough, my warranty was probably void the moment I paid for the roof. The warranty is void if your roof/insulation is not kept to the changing current new home standards throughout the structure s life. Since my house is 50 years old, I doubt it meets new home standards, and it probably never will. I had an estimate from another company for $10000 for a regular 30 year asphalt shingle.(12 year non-prorated warrant)I think I would go with them if I had to do it over again. I also had trim siding and gutters replaced. Mr Roof charged over $1000 more than other estimates for that. The roofers put down tarps and did a good job of clean up. The siding workers weren t so tidy.
Description of Work: Bottom line: Mr Roof did a good job but was overpriced, used pressure tactics to make the sale and has a sneaky warranty. I paid $15000 for a 2500 sq ft ranch. I got their ThunderGuard roof, which is not the standard asphalt shingle. It is an SBS Modified (rubber) asphalt shingle. It looks just like a regular (dimensional) shingle, but is supposed to last 50 years. They also provide a lifetime of the structure full-replacement (labor and material) warranty. The warranty requires that they inspect the roof every 5 years (at your cost). If you forget, your warranty is void. The part that worries me is that Mr Roof manufactures their own shingles and has only been doing so for 13 years. What happens when all of these installations begin to fail? Hopefully this won t happen for another 40 years, but when it does I don t see how Mr Roof can stay in business having to replace all those roofs for free. They replaced the entire roof in 1 day.

Description of Work: Very nice representative came to my house, went up on the roof for 20 minutes, then let me know I did NOT NEED a new roof, just a repair! He could have sold me a $6000 new roof; instead, referred me to a repairman who fixed it for $250!!! These guys are HONEST!! I thoroughly recommend them!

Description of Work: Made two attempts at obtaining an estimate and in both cases the salesman was ''running late'' and had to reschedule. I decided not to pursue working with this company due to their apparent lack of commitment to keeping appointment times.

+ -1 moreWe were torn between Kearns Brothers and Mr. Roof. Both are great companies with dang-near spotless reputations. You could've tossed a coin, Kearns and Mr. Roof's quotes were within dollars of each other. If we were building a new home or planning on staying in a house for more than 10 years, we'd have gone with Mr. Roof's ThunderGard shingles in a heartbeat.

+ -1 moreThe good: the 6 man crew was punctual, polite, helpful, and completed the work in 3 hours. The bad: some of the Owens Corning PRO 30 dimensional shingles didn't exactly match the Sierra Gray color of the rest of the shingles, some of the roof vent covers didn't match up squarely with the holes that were cut in the roof for ventilation, and during cleanup the crew didn't lower the open garage door that had collected refuse from the work on the garage roof. And the ugly: having to sit through 3 hours of sales pitch to get to the bottom line of what it would cost to replace the roof shingles.
Description of Work: Removed and replaced 1 layer of shingles on the roof of our 1500 square foot Colonial 2 story house and attached 2 car garage.
