The short story is that I had to file a police report and a small claims action against Men on the Move. Where do I start...they destroyed my front door - I mean ripped it off the frame of the house -- and said nothing. They ruined an entire box of picture frames CLEARLY labeled as fragile. They scratched my new bamboo floors so badly it makes me feel sick to look at them. They left all 3 mattresses in one room for ME to take care of. They left the treadmill at the bottom of the basement stairs for ME to move. And, last, but certainly not least, they destroyed a bookcase. Again, they said nothing about it. They just put the ruined side down so that I would't see it until (of course) I had to move it. When I discovered the absolute lack of care for my personal belongings I immediately called the company and talked to Jeff, who purports to be the owner. Who knows - you can't trust anything they say. He came out to my house to "fix" the floor. It looks no different at all. He also promised to reimburse me for my broken picture frames -- $75 -- guess what? I haven't seen a dime of that money. AND he took the bookcase promising to return it to me fixed and in good condition in a week. It's been 2 weeks. He promised to drop if off yesterday. Guess what? I've heard nothing from him. So, I had no choice but to A) call a reputable handyman to give me an estimate on what it's going to cost them to fix all the damage and B) file a police report for theft and destruction of property and a small claims court action for reimbursement. Luckily, I have a record of all of the text messages I sent to their (alleged) owner and all of the photos that I took. Whatever you do - DO NOT hire these people or this company. You WILL regret it! And I can speak from experience.

Response from Men On The Move
Mrs [Member Name Removed] I am very sorry for your bad experience while moving but it wasnt with us. There is a MEN ON THE MOVE in [Member Information Removed], MI and the owners name is Jeff but that office has nothing to do with our company here in Livonia. Both office are individual owned and operated. I am not sure if there is anyway that you maybe able to delete this review our not but it would be appreciated seeing our office had no part of your bad moving experience, again I am sorry and will forward these comments on to Jeff at the [Member Information Removed] office. I moved a short distance from Queens to Nassau County I used Men On The Move from the research I did. From the my first call to them to the day they showed they were professional and courteous. They moved all my furniture and even helped me put the front door back on the hinges when they were done. I would definitely use Men On The Move in the future and will recommend them to others.

The entire experience was exceptional. Their staff was knowledgeable and friendly during the booking process. The team arrived on time, worked extremely hard and finished early. They were polite, professional and responsive to our needs and concerns. I will never hire anyone else again and I will only recommend this company in the future for moves. They were not the cheapest option in the town, but they are by far the best choice.

We had three movers and a big truck - Dale, Devin, and for the life of me, I cannot remember the third gentleman. They were right on time and worked hard for 5.5 hours loading and unloading. They were really appreciative of the work we did to pack and prepare as much as possible, and were unfazed by the 45 steps they had to climb / descend to get in and out of our old house - not to mention the sweltering heat throughout the day. All three men were very friendly and professional, and they even came in a few hundred dollars under their original quote. The only thing I wish they did was put down a plastic trail like our previous movers to keep shoes off of our carpet but they didn't track in any visible dirt or leave stains, so ultimately it was fine. We'll be calling on them again next time we move.

Excellent. Absolutely surpassed my expectations. Ask for one of the guys that's been with the company for a while. The team lead on our job had been working there for more than 15 years. He took pride in the quality of his work. He also knew how to get the job done right. The team even helped keep me sane during a very stressful day. Couldn't have asked for more.

Shawn and Derrick arrived early and had the job done with no complaints and a cheerful manner in a short time. The quote had been for around $250, but they finished early and the final bill was much less. Would definitely use them again for small or large jobs. Nice to see people who take pride in what they do.

I was very pleased with how smooth my move across town went. I was moving from a small two bedroom house. I intended for them to just move my big furniture pieces, but I had everything else boxed. I was going to move the boxes myself. They looked at my stacks of boxes and thought it wouldn't take much time to move them too, and they we're right! Everyone involved was positive and professional. No regrets having them move it all. I thought it was a fair price.

The three men showed up and my first impression what not good. Only one of them introduced themselves. Although the and quot;leaderand quot; was very kind in offering a handshake, he was sarcastic. Throughout the day, they were very kind and concerned about what they were moving, but they complained about having had to work so late the night before and how they were tired. One showed up chewing (dip), another smoked on the job (offered us a 15 minute credit for the 8 hour day), and the youngest, fresh out of high school, was the nicest and hardest worker of the group. He didn't smoke, dip or stop for any breaks. He took time, while working, to show interest and make conversation without interrupting or lessoning the work. We still tipped them at the end because they had to lift a lot of heavy stuff, but they also said that it should have been a 2 truck 4 person job and it was a 1 truck 3 person job. I was there also helping for 3 hours, and I had to pack my car with A LOT of stuff (3 trips) that they and quot;weren't allowed to moveand quot; which we were not told about ahead of time (the vcr, etc must be boxed up). It was no big deal because we were a mile down the road, but if we were going out of state, things might have been left behind. Having said that, we gave them a and quot;Cand quot; grade because they were very careful with our things and nothing was broken.

I know lot of moving services who use people who are not highly skilled, but these two guys at Men On The Move seem to know, they were some big awkward pieces of furniture, and they knew very well how to handle it. They knew how to move something that is big and awkward. Actually some of the furniture was very tall and dusty on top and they had it dusted off before they brought it into the room. I said let me dust it before you take it out and they said no, when we got it off the truck that is the best time to dust it. They took care of that.

We needed our furniture (couches, beds, dressers, table and chairs) and other large items moved to our new home. Scheduling was easy, and the movers showed up on time. Our movers, Howard and Tyler did a great job and really hustled to get everything secured and onto the truck. They took care to not damage our items and our new home. I was a little worried, because we live on a bumpy dirt road, and our house has 2 sets of stairs, but everything went well. Would recommend and would use again.

I called Men on the Move in Ann Arbor to get a quote for our local move. The person I spoke with on the phone asked for a description of our layout and amount of stuff we would need moved and when. He was very informative and was able to schedule our desired moving day even though it was only a few days away. He explained that the quote is usually on the high side because they don't like to charge the customer more than initially estimated but they only end up charging by the time it actually takes. I was quoted $750 and the final price for a 3 hour move was $600. My wife and I did ALL the prep work (boxed everything, broke down beds, treadmill, unhooked appliances, etc) in order to minimize the time we needed them. They were very grateful that everything was prepped and prepared for the move. I was told they would show up at 9am on our move day and they showed at exactly 9am. The 3 guys (Percy, Ray and Tyler) were very friendly, professional and efficient with the move. They didn't hesitate to accommodate any special requests. They were very careful with everything and took the time to put down blankets/rugs to protect the floors (which was especially important with all the snow on the ground). The whole job took them 3 hours. It probably would've taken me and my buddies at least an entire day! We were extremely happy with how the move went. The quality of service provided was great. The energy and time saved was well worth the price. We wouldn't hesitate to use them again in the future.

I am a returning customer of Men on the Move. Before leaving, they helped me pack my car and make sure the water was turned off in the condo. 2.5 hours later in the midst of a snow-ice storm, they unloaded their truck in the parking lot of my new place, navigating treacherous walkways to carry my things into the building. Not one item was dropped, broken or damaged. My experience in 2013 confirmed my 2002 impression of this company: Men on the Move is a company that's run by and employs individuals of quality.

The 2 movers showed up 15 minutes late. But after that, everything went smoothly. They worked fast and was impressed how motivated they were. They took great care of everything. Minor scratches and bruises on furniture, but nothing major. Everything was taken care of and they were professional. Charges were reasonable and even though they were not the least expensive, they did have professionalism behind them. Drove straight to the new house without lunch to save me time. I even offered to buy them lunch to have a break and they declined. They even offered to move other things already in the house which was very nice of them to do They also charge by the 15 minutes and didn't even charge me for the 15 minutes they were late, so perfect.

They told me I should have ordered five men and two trucks. Some of my wood furniture got scraped on the surfaces, my black sofa was put on end in the truck and dirt ground into it from there dirty floor. A table my father made 60 years ago got one of the feet chipped off. That was very upsetting. A wood cabinet was dropped unloading it and fell into a million pieces on the ground outside. I found clips on the ground that hold glass shelves in another bedroom unit. They didn't put anything back together except my one bed. Everything else (spare bed, glass shelves, makeup table). We're just put in the rooms. Overall, I would not recommend this company to anyone. They were very overloaded with jobs, working six and seven days a week they told me. And I think that it reflected in their job performance .

My biggest compliment for these guys is their attitude. They seemed to enjoy their work and were not too distraught when they saw all my boxes. They were professional, easy to work with, and worked hard. I did not give them top marks for their quality, because there were a few minor marks on the walls/furniture and I'm still not sure where they put my glass shelves for my entertainment center.

The truck arrived on time and the two men were very efficient with the move. I would have liked that some of the furniture be wrapped, but I did not make that clear from the start. The men were great and even helped us get through an issue of a piece of furniture not fitting where we thought it would in the new house. They were great!

From the very first conversation, Men on the Move proved to be professional and reliable. They answered all of my questions patiently. They did both a phone and an in-person estimate, with a very clear explanation of the services and anticipated costs. I had their packing subcontractors pack my apartment, as I was moving on a very short time frame. The packers came and did an independent evaluation and gave good advice about things that would be difficult to pack well and how best to protect them, and they were fast and efficient when they came to pack the apartment. On moving day, a 3-man crew arrived promptly and worked quickly but carefully. During unloading, they were very good about about putting furniture and boxes exactly where I wanted them (even when they had to reposition things). I was so grateful because unpacking was so much easier to have everything in the right place from the beginning. Some of my furniture was a tight fit through the doors of the new place, but there was no damage despite the close quarters. I accidentally forgot to set aside a couple of boxes of fragile family heirlooms I intended to hand-carry, and they ended up on the truck. I needn't have worried -- they also made the trip without any problems. The estimate was spot on, and there were no surprises on moving day. True, they weren't the cheapest possible option, but I thought their price were very reasonable considering how smoothly everything went and how much attention they paid to all the details. It was absolutely worth it. I will definitely use Men on the Move again. They were great!

Moving is said to be one of life's Most Stressful Experiences. Well... it's certainly not fun and it's not cheap. But Men on the Move made it as easy as possible by performing their part flawlessly. After researching and interviewing several reputable movers, our decision came down to two moving companies: one using a tall, 53-ft truck and 2-3 men... and the other, Men On the Move, suggesting 4 shorter, 20-ft trucks and 8 men. and quot; How was I going to manage a crew of 8 movers and 4 trucks all at once?!,and quot; I thought to myself. So I was going to go with the traditional (one-truck) mover, but decided to let MOTM come by to give me an in-person quote. I was impressed by MOTM's owner, Jeff, and his reassurance that his crew is very professional, careful, and quick. Then he gave me a good price and promised the move would not cost more than that. Come moving day, the 4 trucks pulled up right on time and 8 men jumped out, ready to work. And work, they did! Clearly, these guys had been working together for a long time. They knew just what to do and I found myself doing very little and quot;supervising.and quot; When we got to the other end of the move and started unloading, that's when you find out how easy a crew is to work with. My husband and I were pretty tired at this point, but the 8 guys cradled and carried our stuff like it was nothing. And we have BIG furniture. They were also patient when I decided that something large didn't go where I had originally planned and asked them to move it a few inches or so. They joked about having to rearrange stuff, but they were pleasant about it. In the end, 8 guys made our move as painless and efficient as possible. And after a careful examination, I couldn't find a single scratch on any of our furniture. Finally, the move went so smoothly, that it was finished in less time than we had planned. So if you are looking for a local mover, let me summarize our experience for you: MOTM had the lowest cost quote, was exceptionally professional, came in on-time and under-budget (!!), the crew was cheerful and easy to work with, and they handled our furniture like they really cared. (Aside: I was particularly concerned about 2 silk sofas and a couple of kid-leather-covered chairs. MOTM carefully wrapped these items in saran to protect the fabric. Just to make sure I wasn't worried. At no extra cost. I love these guys!)

Two friendly men drove from Ann Arbor to a home 55 miles away to pick up furntiure - dining room set with a buffet, upholstered chairs, wooden chairs, a glass front talll cabinet with a mirror inside, a settee, a chest with drawers, an old-fashioned vanity table, and a heavy oak draftsman's desk. They came on time and understood what was going where. They reconfirmed where it was going too. They removed and packed the furntiure efficiently in the truck. They are professionals and clearly know what to do. I met them at the resale shop and then at the house to put furniture on all three floors. They removed a small table and bed and frame and took that to the Salvation Army. An old sofa was taken to the dump. This was done cheerfully, without any damage to the furniture, and it was placed where we wanted it. We recommend them without reservation.
Description of Work: Moving furniture. Some of the furniture was going to our home and some was going to a resale shop. They came on time and understood what was going where. Then from our house a bed and small table were taken to the Salvation Army, and an old sofa went to the dump. This was all done in 3 1/2 hours very efficiently and without a scratch on the furniture. We thought the price for the time, mileage, and 5 stops was reasonable.
