Overall it well. They are fairly priced. In the past they even walked my tentants through on how to change the filter and run the humidifier.

Hutzel Plumbing & Heating Company did excellent work, overall. The workers who came out were professional. They were punctual. The quality of their work was excellent. I plan to use them again in the future.

I think it?s important to have a good relationship with a plumber, and to that end I?ve tried to stick with the same company in every city where I?ve lived. Since moving into the current house in 2005, I chose Hutzel and have had them here for three orders that totaled $1,007. (Between the first call in 2007 and the most recent one, their rate has jumped from $104 to $119 per hour!) In July 2010 I called Hutzel to install three new faucets I?d purchased at a retail home improvement store, one for each bathroom sink. It seemed worth the expense to have a professional do the installations. I?ve put in faucets, but it takes me a while. I also wanted a quarter-turn faucet installed at the outdoor tap. Hutzel sent a plumber named Bud, who did all three of the ?lav? faucets and the outdoor faucet. The bill was $484.94, including $357 for three hours? labor. Sometime last fall we noticed the faucet in the downstairs half-bath, which is very seldom used, wasn?t sitting solidly; it rocked back and forth. More recently, on March 13, it was evident that the faucet was not secured at all from below. I reached underneath and found that both plastic nuts that lock down the faucet shanks had split in half. Obviously, they had been overtightened. I called Hutzel and spoke to Terry, who said she would ?no charge? the call to take care of this. Bud soon showed up. Looking at the split nuts, he said, ?They just exploded!? Of course he could venture no guess as to why. No idea whatsoever! But I should call Price Pfister and request new nuts under warranty. I did call Price Pfister in California. When the service rep heard me describe the broken nuts, she said, ?Overtightened.? I called Hutzel back to say replacement nuts were being sent by mail, but Terry disclaimed her previous offer, saying the faucets weren?t purchased from Hutzel. Of course, when I was being charged $119 per hour for the work, it didn?t matter if the faucets had come from Victoria?s Secret. And now Terry said she shouldn?t have offered to ?no charge? the order. I would have to talk to Nels, the treasurer, she said. Nothing about starting over with Nels appealed to me, so I told Terry to talk to him on my behalf and get back to me. Of course I heard nothing. Yesterday?s mail brought the replacement parts. I called Hutzel this morning. Terry said she shouldn?t have offered to ?no charge? anything: the work was done last July, the faucets weren?t theirs, she?s only the dispatcher, and I needed to talk to Nels?the best they could do is split the cost of the labor with me. I?ll just do it myself. I notice the installation instructions, which I saved, say, ?Hand tighten.? I can do that as well as a trained professional. As for Hutzel, isn?t it better to admit a mistake and take care of it instead of lying and cowering? Their advertising boasts that they?ve been around since the 19th century; their attitude about sticking the customer with the cost of their screw ups certainly reflects that era.

In response to a gas smell, called gas company. They diagnosed as exhaust spillover from furnace. Gas co. did not see any cracks in the heat exchanger, but "one could be there". Recommended a service call to inspect and perform any necessary repairs on the furnace. I called Hutzel who was able to come immediately, and arrived on time. As usual, the price for the service call was a little high---typical for them, but normally they do good work and I don't mind paying for it. On arrival, was told that the exhaust stack had a bimetal damper in it---an old design, not used anymore, because it can encourage such spillover. Effectively, it is a set of "fingers" that curl back as the exhaust gases heat up. The Hutzel service rep did not have a short piece of exhaust flue to replace it with, but claimed to (and I quote) "knock out the fingers" in the damper. He also diagnosed a crack in the heat exchanger, but I was not able to see the visual evidence that he claimed to be showing me, so had planned to get a second opinion on that. Forward ten days, same smell in the house, elevated CO levels. We called the gas co. again. Gas co. representative says he can still see the damper when he looks up the exhaust stack---so much for "knocking out the fingers". He also cannot see a crack in the heat exchanger, but "there could be one." I'm still planning on a second opinion for that, and am withholding judgement. I have had good experiences with Hutzel overall, and will probably continue using them for plumbing, as they've always done fine by us for plumbing calls. But, I will no longer be using them for HVAC.

They did a good job. They were punctual and timely. It was a crisis situation and it was very cold and I needed heat in the house immediately. They got the job done.

He didn't call until 11:30 AM. Apparently another job came in that morning and he failed to inform me. When I called the answering service to find out where he was, they told me he was on another job. So I cancelled the service call, and called another company.

They have always been very professional when they have come out to my home. They are a little bit more expensive than other companies, however they always get the work done right. I have been pleased with their services.

They are prompt, pleasant and responsive to my needs. They give a good estimate and have always done a good job. The quality of their work is good and I have been satisfied with their service.

In an emergency you can count on them. They are quick, courteous, dependable, they are good, but they are twice as expensive as others. I would use them again. They have someone dispatching all the time. They are very responsive.

Very well. My only issue was that it took three visits to fix the problem: First visit; diagnosed problem. Second; began to fix it but realized problem required more people and time. Third time; actually fixed problem.

Hot water heater was leaking---on a Sunday. Called answering service on Sunday, asked for a call back Monday morning. Prompt call (8:30 AM), gave me a reliable quote for a replacement, and arrived later that afternoon. Installed new heater a bit close to the furnace filter door, but I can still get to it and replace filters. Removed old heater, job site left cleaner than when he arrived.

Problem has stayed fixed for over 5 months now.

The company is professional and expensive. They use a unionized work force that drives up their cost.

Courteous, efficient and seemed competent. Labor charge $104 per hour. Seems a little steep.

I would not recommend hiring this company, as they are not responsive.

It took over a year before the job was completely done, the heating inspector came several times and failed the job so we would have to recontact Hutzel and get them out to the house again. They also said they would do some work as part of the job and then tried to charge us separately for this. We did not pay this but it was a hassle getting them to stop sending us bills. They spoke unprofessionally about a smaller contractor.

Arrived promptly, were nice, and efficient. They quickly diagnosed the problem: circuit tripped. Pointed it out to me, I turned it back on, and he left with $156! (This is the minimum service charge for weekend service; at least he apologized for taking the money.) This is painfully obvious to me now, but please remember to check the circuit before calling for service.

Workers were very courteous and explained the whole process, making sure we understood the unexpected problem of the giant hole they had found under our floor. They employed very creative solutions to keep the job from being even more expensive, and managed to avoid having to move our furnace and jackhammer through an even larger area. Hopefully we won't have any future plumbing jobs, but we will definitely have them back to clean and maintain our furnace and A/C.

THEY REALLY DO GOOD WORK. I CALLED THEM, AND IT TOOK THEM ABOUT AN HOUR TO GET HERE. ABOUT A HALF HOUR LATER THEY WERE FINISHED. MY FURNACE WORKS BETTER NOW THAN IT HAS IN A LONG TIME.

THEY DID A MAGNIFICENT JOB. IT WORKS AS WELL AS IT DID THE DAY WE BOUGHT IT. THEY DID A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF WORK FOR THE AMOUNT OF MONEY THEY CHARGED.
