+ 0 moreThe workers showed up on time, were courteous and very professional. They created a raised circular patio in the back of the yard that has stone-fitting craftman ship not unlike Macchu Pichu. The run-off channel employed lining , river rock and boulders. Looks like a mountain creek -- awesome. Plantings are tasteful. Need to wait if they will thrive.

+ -1 moreEverything was fine for the first three years or so. It all fell apart this year. Around Thanksgiving time of 2013, I called because I was worried that the fall leaf cleanup had not been done. I had time to hire someone else if they could not deal with me. However, I was assured that I was on the schedule and that it would be accomplished. Well, the snows came and the leaves still had not been raked. I called again. The office said someone would get back to me. No one did. I then wrote a letter, telling them of my initial satisfaction, but my unhappiness that the fall cleanup had not been done, and that no one had responded to my concerns, or called to discuss the situation. No response. No phone call. No letter. It was as if I didn't exist. I then received a bill for some services that had been performed earlier in the fall. I paid the bill, but attached the letter I had sent earlier that indicated my dissatisfaction and wrote a note on the bill. No response. No phone call. No letter. No contact at all. I can certainly understand that a company can make a mistake. However, simply ignoring a problem after repeated phone calls and letters is, to me, completely unacceptable. I have never had a company do that. I talked to the friend who had referred me to the service. She said - call the owner, he's wonderful. However, a firm is only as wonderful as its employees. In this case, I felt completely let down. I will not use them again, and will be happy to let people know why. .
Description of Work: I hired Great Outdoors to do spring and fall yard cleanup, as well as monthly weeding and trimming.

Description of Work: Provides almost all of our yard work, including grass cutting, edging, shrub pruning . Does snow plowing. Also some landscaping.

He was super helpful, answering all of my questions and showing me how to program my sprinkler timer if I needed to change it during the season due to overly dry or wet conditions. He was always prompt, polite and professional. The second appointment also came in well below his original estimate, which I view as a sign of an honest company. Plan to use them for all of my sprinkler maintenance from now on!
Description of Work: He came out and evaluated my sprinkler system to make sure it was in good working order for the season. He tuned up the system, including checking all of the sprinkler heads for obstructions, adjusting the heads for full coverage, setting up the timer system and ensuring all of the zones operated correctly. I had some problems last fall with one of my zones having low water pressure, but never had someone come out because it was so late in the season. Then during the winter my exterior pipes cracked, probably because the company I used to blow out the system did it wrong. He was able to diagnose all of the problems and set up another appointment to come out and fix them.

+ -1 moreThe technician figured out what was going on with a 20 year old in ground irrigation system. He worked to trace all of its parts and to figure out where everything was. In the end, it turned out that the system wasn't salvageable, but the technician stayed around to explain about other systems, and landscaping issues. Very informative and helpful.

+ -1 more.In April and May they did spring cleaning for me and the last time they came did mulch. They were just fantastic. They did a great job. For the routine stuff you don't have to call them they will show up. The yard always looks great and clean. They are professional and they always work hard. You get your monies worth of work. It is nice to have somebody with knowledge of clean ups and when to do it. They know what to cut and what not to cut and that is really helpful. I had some buds which they also planted for me.
Description of Work: .Great Outdoors did some spring cleanup and yard clean for met they come a month to clean and prune the mulch.

+ -1 moreThe Great Outdoors did previous work on my irrigation system for which I gave them an outstanding review on Angie's List. I was so impressed that I called them again to perform a small amount of landscape work at the end of the season to see how this other group within the company performs. Diana, their hedge trimming person, was highly recommended by the irrigation person who I was very pleased with. So when I called the company to get Diana's services for hedge trimming, I said that I would pay her by the hour so just send her out. Jessica, the office manager, said that she would have to send out Diana and her mgr. Clark to first review the job. When I met Clark and Diana, I clearly told Clark that I wanted to pay by the man-hour instead of the job. Clark quoted $40 per man-hour and $35 if we signed on to regular scheduled maintenance. We agreed to the $40 to first evaluate their work. We have lots of landscaping so this would be an opportunity to impress us like they did with their irrigation work. Diana and her cleanup man drove up my driveway at 3:45pm and left at 5pm. Diana did outstanding work and the curved hedge never looked better. Most of the time, her cleanup man stood around watching Diana work. The elapsed time was 1 hour and 15 minutes which equates to 2.5 man-hours @ $40 or $100.00 total. When I received their invoice for $170, I called and spoke with the office manager Jessica who said that she was given the $170 amount, but will check with the landscaping manager and call me back. After four days, I called again and spoke with Jessica who said that I was erroniously billed a flat rate for the job instead of the quoted hourly rate. The amount owed was now $104 instead of $100. When I asked why the extra $4, she stated that my time was off by 3 minutes elapsed time or six man-minutes. I COULD ELABORATE, BUT I THINK THIS SAYS IT ALL! I do plan on using this company again because their work is so good, but now I've learned how to deal with them.
Description of Work: Hedge trimming for one curved hedge about 2 feet high and 20 feet long, and clean up the clippings.

Description of Work: Wesly (Wes) Campbell, Great Outdoors irrigation specialist, came out to access my system since I was thoroughly disgusted with my previous contractor. Since this was his first time out, he had to thoroughly analyze the system before recommending solutions. He first determined that I had a broken wire that prevented two zones from working. After failing, but painstakingly trying to locate the broken wire we discussed different alternatives, Wes recommended combining zones which for now would be cost effective yet efficient. In the future, Wes recommended installing a remote wireless control clock by the well hydrant to run all 5 front zones as the alternative to running new wire. Wes also told me I should replace my current hose clamps with end fittings & caps. This will allow me to run water thru the Netafin hose to eliminate iron deposits in the hose and facilitate proper draining when I shut down the system for winter . He also told me to reroute my irrigation hose to make a closed circuit loop for better circulation. These were great suggestions that I could do myself which the previous contractor never did 8 years ago when the system was first installed. The original installation contractor had been coming out more and more over the years and now weekly or biweekly to unstick zone valves and charging me for each visit. He was telling me that my unfiltered water was rusty even though I was cleaning my zone filters every week, and he could not offer any other solutions. I told him that the zone valves & wires were buried in dirt, clay, and crud which could not be the proper way to install or maintain them. Naturally he disagreed and said that I knew nothing about installing an irrigation system. To the contrary, Wes, Great Outdoors agreed with me! He installed 5 new valves and wiring in a properly designed well box in a sufficiently deep hole and mounted the valves 6 inches above the dirt. He then surrounded the valves with gravel stones for protection within the well box. I haven't had a stuck valve since. In the event, it does happen, Wes showed me how to clear the valve within minutes which are now easily accessable without having to dig for them.

I got a detailed description of the problem and estimate and the work was done immediately - really great! Also, problems with the original installation came to light as well, so I got a good estimate on further work that I am looking forward to getting done later in the summer.

We scheduled a date and time for them to come for an estimate. They didn't show up. I did get a voicemail apologizing for missing the estimate the next day, but after trying 3 times to reschedule (voicemails not returned), I gave up on these guys.

+ -1 moreWe took advantage of the Angie's List deal they offered (thanks Angie's List & Great Outdoors) for an irrigation system inspection.The first time out, they discovered a burst pipe. The next day, they repaired the pipe and then performed the inspection. Total cost for *BOTH* services was $95 dollars!The good news is that there was little wrong with the system, the better news is that they provided a rough estimate of what it woudl take to get everything in tip-top shape, including fixing a leak and adding extra sprinklers.If/when we decide to do the work, we won't bother with other estimates. Thanks Great Outdoors! We're very happy customers.

Only complaint was that when the work was complete, no one came to the door to let us know they were done--I would have been interested in a quote for weekly lawn cutting if they had come to the door. I would hire them again for more lawn work in the future and would recommend them to others.
