Exterior & interior painting, deck staining and power washing, drywall repair, carpentry & wallpaper removal.
My husband and I recently contracted Elysium to do exterior project for us, they power washed and stained our deck and pergola as well as power washed and painted the trim on our house. I have to remark, that the thing that impressed me most is that Elysium unlike many contractors I have worked with in the past is professional and communicative through out the duration of the project. I called their main office to set up a free estimate and had someone at the house the next morning; they even gave me the bid before leaving. There was no waiting 3-4 days for the contractor to ?get back to me with a price.? The crew that came to our house showed up on time and were very polite and respectful of our home and property. We primarily communicated with crew chief Caesar, who was very clear on the time line for project completion and stuck to his promises. Overall we are very pleased the finished product that he and his crew provided us with! Thank you Elysium for making our deck beautiful again.

They helped us decide on the type of paint finish, and were very patient as we tried a couple of shades of paint and helped us with every aspect of doing an entire exterior paint job. It was an absolutely huge job and they really exceeded our expectations. They painted everything including all the trim, cedar shake, gutters and railings and ceilings on our large, wrap around covered, two-story porch and deck. They even cut down a tree for us that was in the way of the painting that we had wanted to take out! The project manager, Kevin, was here everyday checking on progress, talking to us. All the workers were so nice and very careful with everything and respectful of our home. It was a great experience and the house looks brand new and just beautiful. Would recommend the entire crew to anyone. Very, very thorough.
Description of Work: We have a very large house with a lot of trim and a lot of windows! Because of all the small, individual windows (and we had over 500!) they needed to tape and protect every inch of our exterior. It was a very big exterior painting job and they quoted it from the beginning almost exactly to the penny, then provided enough workers to complete every portion of the project, from power washing to replacing rotted wood to replacing pieces of gutter - everything was prepped and covered.

The service was good. He was good at communicating with us. He explained what he had to offer and he met our expectations. They were friendly and prompt. They cleaned up well and did a nice job. I would recommend their service to others. They were competitive in their price compared to other estimates we received.

They sent a crew of about eight people. I was really pleased with the work. He was organized and on time. He was task orientated and knowledgeable about the painting process. They offered to work the holidays to complete the work. It took about four days to complete. I thought the price was reasonable. I was very happy with the service.
Description of Work: They painted my entire first floor and it's about 1900 square feet.

Their service was great. After they completed the work, we noticed the ceiling work was not done to our satisfaction. We called them and they came back to fix it. Overall, we were satisfied with the work. There was that minor issue but they resolved it. Their price seemed the most reasonable compared to other companies we looked into. They were responsive and professional.
Description of Work: They painted my foyer and my hallways. We have vaulted ceilings. They also fixed the part of the ceiling where the two seams come together.

The company was pretty bad. It took about five months for them to start the work. When they first quoted the job ,they said it would take sixteen hours to do the work. We asked them to just do the eight hours of work. They did the job and somehow completed the work in five hours and did not work for the remaining three hours even though the work was not complete. They did not remove all the wall paper glue or repair all the damaged drywall or finish the painting. They also gave us an excuse of why they could not repair some of the drywall. They did not finish the job and we had to hire someone else to come out and complete the work. It was an additional $600. I was not happy with the service. They rescheduled countless times and did not complete the job.
Description of Work: I purchased a Big Deal for eight man hours of wall paper removal and drywall plaster and repair. They were supposed to removed wallpaper, repair drywall in the bathroom, and paint the bathroom.

We were willing to pay any additional fees for any additional square footage not honored by the deal. They said there would be additional fees but they were not willing to honor the coupon. They asked me to refund the coupon because Angie's List gets apart of the earnings. They wanted me to pay them directly. I told them I was willing to pay any additional fees only if they honored the coupon but they were unwilling to work with me. I don't think they should participate in Angie's List Big Deal offers if they won't honor the coupon. I did not agree with their business practices. I would never us their services again. They also would not accept credit cards. They accept cash or check only which is not something they explained up front. They were not punctual or responsive. I had to call them a few times.

[member name removed], I apologize for your experience. We do accept credit cards; this is listed on our website and all of our paperwork. The coupon's description mentioned what it covered. We were more than happy to honor it and do the work for you. I apologize that we requested more funds to paint an additional 1000 square feet on your 2500 square foot home. The coupon was listed for 1500 square feet of work to be done. We honor all coupons; please let us know the individual you spoke with so we can look in our records. If someone misspoke to you or said incorrect information, we definitely want to take care of that so it doesn't happen again! I hope your project was completed to a high degree of quality by somebody you felt comfortable with. Thank you for your time.

We were very satisfied with the work. They completed the work on time and came to the estimate when they said they would. They also followed up to make sure everything was done to our satisfaction. Theyalso did some warranty touch up work for us. It was very easy and they came back with no argument.

My house was in a need of a major face lift. In preparation for the approaching cold months, and inevitably spending more time in doors, we wanted to make sure that all of our major updates were finished before the cold Michigan weather came sweeping in to spoil the summer fun. So naturally it was decided that the time had come to remove the awful wallpaper in the den and master bathroom! I met with four contractors, Elysium's bid was admittedly higher in price. However, based on their outstanding reputation and the detail and clarity that their estimator brought to the table we signed the contract. All of the work was completed as promised and within the given time frame. There were no nasty surprises when the materials invoice came and the ghastly wallpaper is gone for good. Looking forward to spending time in my updated den this winter, thank you Elysium for doing a great job!

These guys were the worst we have ever worked with. They were terrible at every aspect of the engagement. : Let's run down the list of Elysium's behaviors on this job: - Grossly incompetent estimation - Failure to communicate, failure of project management - Failure to protect furnishings, sloppy painting and indifferent cleanup - Arguing with the customer about his wishes - Applying the wrong paint, despite detailed written and verbal instructions - Trying to enforce a phony contract - Expecting the customer to pay for tools - Failure to properly account for all materials purchased - Failure to honor the terms of the original quote : Yep, for sheer aggravation, this one has it all. : The kicker? They damaged my house, and then went to ridiculous extremes to avoid taking responsibility for it. So, yeah, this was what you would call a Bad Contractor Experience. : Elysium was one of three bidders for our painting job: remove the wallpaper from our kitchen, and then paint the walls and ceilings in our Kitchen and Living/Dining rooms. We had popcorn ceilings, and also wanted a separate quote to detexture them. If detexturing was too expensive, we'd just have them painted. : All three painters we contacted quoted the job, including painting the textured ceiling. One of them doesn't remove texture, but was willing to paint it. : Elysium gave us a quote to remove the wallpaper and paint the walls and ceilings with a very clear bottom line: : "All work, remove wallpaper, skip de-texturing. Labor: $2,430". : They also listed the cost to add detexturing to the job: $810 additional. Add the cost of materials, quoted at $600, and it sounded like a reasonably competitive bid. All of this was written on the contract, by the owner in his very own handwriting. : And it sounded good to us, so we gave them the go-ahead: do the work as specified, adding the detexturing. We expected the total cost of labor to come in around $3,240. : We then emailed David Landau, project manager Troy, and crew chief Cesar with our color selections. We gave them brand, color by SKU, and finish for each surface. No ambiguities, no confusion - this wasn't our first rodeo. : Day one of the work, and my wife was there to meet the crew. : Work began, and we hit our first snafu. The wallpaper was going to be much harder to remove than estimated - over twice as hard, adding another $1,300 to the job. When we inquired how the estimate could have been so badly mangled, they agreed to cap the overage at $800. Our total for labor now stood at $4,040. : Cesar then said that he didn't want to remove the rest of the wallpaper in the kitchen, as it would be too hard; he wanted to paint over it. He claimed that painted-over it would look "just as good" as if he actually removed it, and would last just as long. From experience, we know both statements to be untrue. We told him that we wanted the work done correctly - remove the old wallpaper, repair the wall, and paint it. : On day two, Cesar informed us that he didn't approve of our paint finish - eggshell. He wanted to apply matte paint to the walls. My wife said no, we know what we want, and we'd like you to do it the way we want it. They way we've written it down. : When we got home at the end of day two, we discovered that, despite our written instructions and verbal reiteration, Cesar had gone ahead and painted the Living Room in matte, not eggshell. Yup: he put the wrong paint on the walls, even after being told in two different ways exactly what we wanted. Mr. Landau assured us that we would not be charged for the wrong paint, or for the time they had spent in applying it. : Day four came, and Mr. Landau called my wife to tell us the job was done. Hurray! When she got home, she told Cesar, as she had told David, that she wanted to wait for me to get home from work for the walk-through. Cesar didn't want to wait, so he packed up his truck and left. : With good reason. We found at least three spots with obvious slop-over, a section of chair rail that they hadn't bothered to paint, and a three-foot long section of wall on which they had painted over nail pops, old wallpaper and gouged drywall, without bothering to repair it (as they promise to do in their pretty marketing materials). We also found three areas on the hardwood floors with schmutz on them from improperly-applied tape that they didn't bother to clean off, plus drywall dust in the front closet and in the front hallway, where the crew had failed to properly isolate the work area. : The major fault, though, was that they failed to properly protect the hardwood floor in the kitchen. When they dragged the refrigerator away from the wall, at least three times, they pressed visible grooves into the floor. When I pointed this out to Mr. Landau and Cesar during our walk-through, Mr. Landau chose to argue with me. He claimed that it was not possible for the refrigerator to make the grooves, even though the roller wheels of the fridge are clearly sitting in the grooves, and the configuration of the rollers exactly matches the contours of the grooves. Exactly. : When the crew came back the next day to fix all their sloppy work, Mr. Landau and the crew chief ran an impromptu "experiment": they pulled the refrigerator away from the wall again, without any floor covering of any kind. Seeing no further damage, they decided it was not possible for them to have caused the original damage. At least, that's what they claim. : Take a moment to digest that: they came into our house, ostensibly to touch up bad painting, and intentionally tried to further damage our floor, without consulting us. : We had three independent flooring contractors, who actually know something about floors, come out to look at the damage. They all found Mr. Landau's assertions laughable. The refrigerator clearly was the cause of the grooves. The grooves were not in the floor before Elysium came on site, and the grooves were there when they were done. : Mr. Landau chose to disregard the opinions of the experts. In the end, he offered to discount the final invoice by $300. : During the course of the discussions, Mr. Landau pointed out that, per contract, he is entitled to charge a 20% markup on all materials purchased for the job, to cover "travel and wait time." I asked him to point out where on the contract it says that, as I couldn't find it anywhere, and would never have agreed to if I had seen it. Mr. Landau sent me a copy of a contract with the applicable clause highlighted, but it was not the same contract as the one he had provided me when he did the quote. He tried to enforce a non-existent contract clause from a document that was not our contract. : Along with the invoice, he provided receipts for all materials purchased - or almost all the materials. He charged me for several gallons of matte paint - the stuff we had told them not to use, and which they had used anyway. When I told Mr. Landau I wouldn't pay for paint they applied against my instructions, he informed me that they had bought three gallons of eggshell paint that they hadn't charged me for, and so it should all even out. Of course, he was unable to provide the invoices for the three gallons of eggshell - I would just have to trust him on that one. : They also charged me for a scraper and four spray bottles. Not a big expense, but a contractor is expected to bring his own tools to the job. The customer pays for consumables - paint, tape, paper, rags - but tools? I've dealt with at least five contractors on home improvement projects and never has any reputable firm expected me to pay for their tools. Elysium did. : Mr. Landau later offered to remove three gallons of eggshell and the tools from the invoice, if we would agree not to write an online review. Finding this plea disingenuous, and feeling an obligation to Angie's List, we did not respond. : Overall, the bottom line for materials actually billed to me, including the tools, was over $1,100 - almost twice the $600 in Mr. Landau's quote. The paint alone came to $828. This was either a case of bait and switch, or the worst estimating job in the world. : Finally, the bottom line. Rather than honor the clear wording on his quote: "All work, remove wallpaper, skip de-texturing. Labor: $2,430", Elysium charged me the maximum amount for each line of work, totaling $900 more than expected per the contract. Mr. Laundau's explanation of the bottom line that he wrote on the quote but did not honor? It was a "contextual summary", whatever that means. : And, in his efforts to justify not adhering to his original quote, he claimed that "the $2430 summary does not include ceiling painting, as that would be impossible if we skipped the de-texturing" (email, August 16). He went through some very complicated mathematical gymnastics to remove painting of the ceiling from the quoted scope, so he could add it back again as an "extra". Anyone who has had a popcorn ceiling painted, as I have in the past, would be surprised to hear Mr. Landau claim that it's impossible to paint them. And it was clearly in the scope of work requested, and agreed-to. : In the end, this was a terrible , horrible, no good, very bad experience. Elysium did slipshod work on every aspect of the engagement - estimation, painting, cleanup, customer service, contract management and billing. They took minimal responsibility for their mistakes and were either unethical, or unorganized, in the extreme. The result for the customer is the same - more expensive, of lower quality, and much more stressful than necessary.
Description of Work: Removed wallpaper in kitchen; painted walls and ceiling in kitchen and living/dining rooms UPDATE, 10/14/13: Elysium’s response to our original review is seriously unhinged, and not a word of truth in it. Some of their worst misrepresentations: : 1. We threatened to post a bad review if Elysium didn’t buy us a new floor? Lie. We didn’t mention online reviews – only Elysium did, when they tried to bribe us into not reviewing their work. : 2. The floors were pre-damaged, and Elysium has pictures and videos to prove it? Lie. If they had them, they would have produced them by now to stop all the back-and-forth. The floors had been refinished no more than 4 years prior to this work. They’re in beautiful condition, except where Elysium damaged them. : 3. Our photographic evidence was of work in-progress? Lie. We had a walk-through after work was done, with David Landau, and we showed him everything that was in the pictures. Look at the “nail pops” picture. That’s finished paint on that unrepaired surface, showing that they painted over unfinished walls and called it good. All our photos are time/date stamped, and all taken after the work was done. : 4. We threatened that if Elysium didn’t meet our demands, we would "make them sorry"? What are we, supervillains? This lie is bizarre; we declined their offer of a bribe not to post our review. If we ever blackmail anybody, it won’t be a house painter : 5. They offered to repair the damaged floor, using licensed professionals? Lie. They did offer to try to steam out the damage, admitting that they had never actually done that before. I told them I’d rather have it done by people who knew what they were doing. When I talked to real experts in floor repair, they all said that steaming won't work. So much for "strategy". : 6. The flooring damage was "documented pre-existing?" Another lie. If there were documentation to support any of Elysium's bizarre claims, they would produce it. There's definitely documentation of damage after the work, which we have attached at the bottom of our review. : 7. Two independent flooring professionals examined the damaged floor? Not really - Elysium talked to guys at Home Depot and Lowes, showing them pictures on a camera phone. No offense to those fine stores, but that’s hardly an "examination" by independent professionals. : 8. We insisted that Elysium replace "standard hardwood floor with rare imported material"? This is a big ol' whopping lie, the most outlandish one yet. We got a quote to sand the damaged area, and refinish the rest to match. : 9. We authorized Elysium to do what they wanted with respect to finish? No – we provided specific written instructions, and told them to adhere to those written instructions. Elysium decided to disregard our written instructions. : 10. They repainted our living room without us requesting they do so? Okay, this one is technically true – because we didn't request they fix their screwup, we DEMANDED it. : 11. Material markups are not part of Elysium’s standard operation? If not, then Elysium hauled out a phony (that is, fraudulent) contract to try to make us think they were giving us a “break” on their nonexistent markup, and then threatened to withhold this "break" when we wouldn't roll over. We have the emails from David Landau making the offer, and we have both contracts - the real one, and the fake one he tried to fool us with. : 12. Dust in the closet was from our move? Look at the picture – that’s drywall dust, not furniture dust, caused by improper care when they sanded the ceiling. It's very clear in the picture at the bottom of our review. : 13. We denied Elysium’s request to be present when our three flooring contractors inspected the floor? A bald-faced lie – Elysium never made the request. However, we did provide the names of the three contractors we spoke with to Elysium, so Elysium could follow up with them if desired. Which they didn't do. : 14. Switch plates and outlets had paint on them prior, and Elysium replaced several? A lie – the picture in question is from a room that had never been painted, only wallpapered. Elysium slopped primer onto it. And we bought our own switch plate covers. : 15. The first project authorization did not include ceilings? Not true. We were very clear as to scope, and that is reflected on the quote that Elysium chose not to honor. : 16. We kicked the crew out, with insulting language? A slanderous lie. When my wife got home on the last day, having been told the work was done, she went to the back of the house to stay out of the crew’s way. She thought they were going to clean up, as promised. Instead, they hurriedly packed up their truck and skedaddled, leaving a mess behind as documented in our pictures. : 17. Elysium covered 100% of the material costs for redoing the ceiling at their expense? This is an example of Elysium not being able to keep their lies straight. They never “redid” the ceiling - it was one of few areas they got right the first time. : Bottom line? We have posted pictures of Elysium's sloppy work. We have emails from Elysium offering to refund money they already owed us, provided we refrain from posting an online review. We have copies of the multiple contracts Elysium tried to enforce at different times. Elysium has . . .lies and fantasies bearing no relation to the real world. Based on their response, it appears Elysium will say anything to avoid taking responsibility for their mistakes.

Response from Elysium Painting Company
[member name removed], while we appreciate the work, your business, and communication during the project, I’m shocked and saddened that you feel the need to resort to carrying out the threat you first brought up related to getting us to buy you luxury floors. Some would call “buy us new floors or we’ll drag your name through the mud” blackmail, especially in an older home with preexisting damage we did not exacerbate, that we documented in pictures and videos before and during the project. I acknowledge that you had feedback about the project as it was going on, and evaluated the interior work before it was complete, which some homeowners do when spackling is fresh and not yet sanded, and homes look inadvertently worse before they look better before sanding, priming, and final coats occur. Taking photos of these areas in progress, along with areas of poor caulking by previous painters [also documented before we began work] and attributing them to our crew’s final product is misleading and a direct untruth. There are some projects where we need to take extra efforts to meet homeowner requests. There are others where a project standard is decided – such as painting and prep, but not restoration (as that process is often more time consuming, and thus expensive, than many people would prefer to pay) – which we are happy to remediate and add on later. For this project specifically, having personally been to your house four times and inspected the work, having verbal confirmation from you over E-mail that the quality is good, the project is complete, seeing this feedback is quite a surprise. However, it is in line with what you mentioned regarding the floors, in that if we didn’t meet your demands, you would make us sorry. Ultimately while all of your comments can be addressed individually – a process normally taken – the fact that many are fabricated reduces the reliability and validity of this report. I understand that making this statement publicly can be a double-edged sword, and it would only take extremely special circumstances – such as being blackmailed for an $8000 new 10x14 floor normally $1200 to replace that we covered and protected extensively during the project [and again, documented preexisting damage before we started] – this clouds your report and it would be dishonest of us to admit and respond to comments about our conduct, communication and work which did not occur. We offered to repair the documented preexisting damage at 100% our cost to resolve the issue quickly. The two independent flooring professionals who examined it agreed on a strategy. When any attempt at repair was denied – even though the floor would be replaced anyway – that raised a flag that there might be something odd like an ulterior motive going on under the surface. The repairs would have done by licensed professionals and paid for by us. When homeowners instruct us to do whatever ‘we feel would be best’ for the project – such as choice of finishes – we follow directions for the best finished product. When a job in an area is complete and isn’t what somebody had in mind, we can change that immediately, though usually billing for a change of work. We repainted your living room for free, in one day, the day after you mentioned your feelings about the eggshell, without you requesting we do so. We also dug out old caulk from previous painters – an item not mentioned on the quote – without charging you, as a professional courtesy. Material markups are not part of our standard operations. They are mentioned on our contract for occasions when homeowners change their material preferences many times, requiring 6-10 trips to the paint store instead of the typical 2-3. Even then, applying a markup is rare, and it’s always below retail cost. Out of 300 jobs this year, this practice was done on four projects with the homeowner’s consent. To address your photos: We cleaned up every day and at the end of the project. Dust from your moving in furniture was something we cleaned up as well. This photo was taken before the project started. The floor was discussed, and we even moved the fridge out, on video, over the floor, and no additional damage was caused, proving beyond attribution to ‘photos taken before the job started’ that the fridge didn’t damage the floor, and couldn’t have. The fridge rollers measured 2” wide, and the damage areas measured 0.5” wide, indicating a previous appliance dragged across the floor. We contacted two independent flooring specialists who verified the situation. When we requested to be present when those you called into look at the floor were present, this request was denied. Their feedback was not in writing; ours was willing to provide it. If there was clear evidence that we damaged the floor and that was confirmed in writing, absolutely, positively, without question, we would replace the floor. We have done this with carpets and windows in the past on the 1-2 occasions per year where an accident happens, often with accepting the first quote of the vendor of the homeowner’s choice. Replacing standard hardwood wood with rare imported material and the above in context is a bit of a special circumstance that would inspire further investigation into the matter. Switch plates and outlets that had paint on them before we arrived were offered to be replaced at our cost. Several were. The paint on the wall was a previous painter, as evident by the color and sheen of the paint different than any material we applied on your home or had on site. The dried paint was also somewhat weathered to indicate age. The entire bill was 100% transparent from the beginning list of itemized charges. The first project authorization did not include ceilings. Adding in ceiling texture removal added in cost to paint the ceilings, thus that addition, which was not one penny over the original quote. A contextual summary as mentioned in the E-mail is a summary of costs for options selected. If the ceiling wasn’t selected as a project to be done, as it wasn’t, that wouldn’t be reflected in the first total. Once the ceiling painting was added, including the cost in the job was understandable. Waiting to look over the project, [member name removed] said to the crew, “Leave, I don’t want to look at you any more.” The crew waited two hours after they were done one day for her to come home from work. Everybody was present, on site, to look over everything. It could’ve been done immediately without delay. This is standard practice during the job. The wallpaper removal and ceiling de-texturing work was hourly as it’s very difficult to see what walls look like underneath the surfaces to be removed, until they are removed. Wallpaper in the kitchen was attached directly to the bead-board, requiring the walls to be essentially rebuilt. Before this work started, once the extra requirements were found, we had a long discussion over the phone, with an E-mail summary, noting this part of the project to be beyond regular wallpaper removal. I offered to reduce the costs by $700 to help stay within your budget. Additional wallpaper work, including priming and spackling, along with ceiling spackle, priming and painting does affect material costs. We covered 100% of the material costs for redoing the ceiling at our expense. In the end, while we invested over 60 E-mails to try and come to an amicable resolution, I acknowledge your feelings of a less than desirable experience. Even though I feel this response is largely fabricated and exaggerated due to the flooring issue – again, something I would never, ever say to a customer, privately or publicly, excepting a very unique circumstance – we are still available to help in any legitimate way we can, and wish you the best.

I purchased a $25 coupon for a consultation. The coupon stated that I should hear from Elysium within two business days to schedule an appointment. It has now been four business days and I have yet to hear from them. Feel like I was scammed. Have since requested a refund. Too bad for them, I plan on spending thousands in the spring to have the whole exterior of my house painted.

(Member name removed), I'm very sorry for the communication delay. Angie's List sent us an E-mail that you messaged us, and I replied 8 hours later. It appears through dialogue that their internal processing time relay over the weekend prevented your message to be delivered in a prompt fashion. I have since requested a better interface and immediate text notifications, so a third party's IT department doesn't interfere. We did however respond to you through the Angie's List Message center. Could this have been marked as spam by chance?

After having many estimates from multiple companies we chose to have the work on our home completed by Elysium. The crew expertly navigated ladders up and down our stairwell in order to reach the high ceilings to perform patchwork that needed to be done around our skylights before the painting began. Elysium painted our master bathroom, hallway, stairwell and dining room. The project was done within a couple weeks of sending in a deposit, I would recommend their services to anyone looking for a professional and thorough job to be done.

Elysium offered a very competitive price for their services. More surprisingly, the responsiveness, care and overall quality provided by Kevin Westmoreland's team was great. My chimney needed significant wood repairs. With considerable effort they made the repairs before proceeding to paint it. This was especially notable since the top of the chimney is nearly 40 feet off the ground and required considerable caution. When the work was done the crew cleaned up so well you could not tell they were there. I was also pleased because they allowed me to select the brand of paint used on the job.

Chris once again came out and gave me a price on doing our daughters bedroom. We used this company about 3 years ago to pain out our main living areas --- again with CHRIS giving the price's. We decided to go back to this company, even after getting other quotes that were LOWER in price. Why? CHRIS. He pointed out that the other people did NOT include the closet, or the bedroom doors. That would of been EXTRA --- once the work started. You know the kind ------ they are working on your home, and before you know it BOOM, here is a added cost for this, or for that! It's HORRIBLE. However with this company you do NOT EXPERENCE THIS. Chris comes in, gives you the GRAND TOTAL --- and covers each and every thing needed, INCLUDED nail holes, closets, doors, trim, YOU NAME IT -- they cover it! Chris is the reason we gave out there name & number to TWO of our friends - that called, and indeed used ELYSIUM painting company. Both friends called me back and LOVED Chris, and the painters he sent over. Ok, enough on the price & Chis - Tim. He came out and got the room ready to be painted. He took his time --- worked quite (almost too quite, I thought he had left a few times! lol and then he primed out the room, painted the cealing, did the closet and trim work --- this took most of one day -- as it did not go by the hour -- I did not care. The next day he came back out with the COLORS --- our daughter was so EXCITED to see her PURPLE room come to life. Oh and it did! It's BEAUTIFUL. One very dark wall of purple --- then 3 lighter walls of matching purple. The white trim just sets this room off for a very pretty room. (we wish our bedroom looked this darn good!) Tim was such a nice man --- he showed us the 'purple princess' room --------- he asked my daughter if it was 'good enough' ------- and would she need anything else? She smiled big as she was looking, wide eyed (shes 6) and said, oh nooooo, it's BEAUTFIUL!!! He was smiling just as BIG as she was. He was PROUD of his craft - workmanship - as he should be. Not one purple dot where white paint is --- no bleeding of colors at all. Elysium Painting Company is just a name --- but it's people like Chris --- and TIM that make it happen. Yes, I will use this company again. They many not be the cheapest (in the middle I would say) but I can TRUST them. That too me, moves mountains. Ms. Bates

Elysium was extremely professional and reliable throughout the the whole project. They obviously knew their stuff and completed the job in2 days. I was very happy with our project manager Kevin who was always accessible and made sure things ran smoothly. Of note after the initial work we had some remodeling done. I asked eElysium to help us with the remodeling painting and they squeezed us in with just a few days notice. Thats customer service! They are our go-to painters for sure.

We researched them through Angie’s List. They were pretty good and quick but the fact they lack follow up. At this point they were supposed to follow up with their service. They are actually a group of contractors under that company name and the one that was assigned to us hasn’t followed up. They were supposed to follow up to see if we found any spots that they need to comeback and touch up. According to the company boss that overlooks all these groups of contractors; he will have the person that took care of our contract call us to follow up and finish up whatever needs to be touched up. He told us that he will leave a message for him to call us. He never got back to us. There are portions of the job that needs to be touched up. They were good in getting the work started because we needed it to be done in a short period. Other than that it wasn’t anything extraordinary work.

Had Elysium paint my foyer, stairwell and up stairs bathroom. Not only was the crew there in a timely manner, they kept their workspace clean during the entire duration of the project. The crew performed some pretty delicate drywall patching on the stairwell wall which was pretty damaged. The wall looks good as new now though and I am pleased with the level of detail oriented work that went into the job.

In summary, we found Elysium from Angie's List and have used them. However, they really shocked us twice - first by their breaking the signed contract agreement and last by their threat of taking legal action after a couple of email exchanges about how the work was done. I'll start with the good - We live out of the area and had to communicate with them through emails for the rental property. They were pretty responsive and have finally agreed to work with us remotely. They sent out emails pretty frequently for everything, which I liked. The problems started at the beginning though. After we signed the contract and sent out the deposit check, we were told they couldn't perform the original agreed the service (one coat paint) after their second, and "thorough", onsite inspection. They claimed that the first inspector didn't use a ladder, so had missed some key points? We had to upgrade to the two-coats paint and agree to pay almost $2000 more in order to get their guarantee for their service. I wasn't sure if we had much choice by that time - not only have we already invested time, we had also mailed out the deposit check to them. It would have been much hassle to start it over again! There have also too many people involved from Elysium - I have emailed to four different people on same or different days. Then at the end is the problem we have with the job done to the arbor deck. The whole job was to paint the outside of the house as well as power wash/stain the backyard deck. We don't think they have done a good job to the arbor deck and know It's a little challenge to do a good job to them because they are up in the air. I had the same problem before and was able to ask for improvements resulted into my satisfaction. This time Elysium people disagreed that they had done a poor job. While they fully acknowledged the results after their power wash and stain, i.e., dys-color as well as lighter color on the arbor deck than on the lower deck, they claimed the problem was from my arbor deck themselves - "aged, untreated, un-maintained pine" were their original words. This is the first time I got someone comment on my arbor deck like that! The arbor deck are the same age, and have got the same treatment and the same maintenance, as the lower deck. The Elysium people also suggested that the difference of color was due to different wood - the lower deck are cedar and the upper arbor are pine. Truth be told, I thought I had the same wood up and down as they had all looked the same color to me. Finally, I was scared by their threat of legal actions towards me. After I read the last sentence from the last email of Elysium, "If you have any issue after this email, we will be forced to take legal action.", I dare not reply back to them, nor will I use or recommend them in the future.

(removed member name), I apologize about the scenario with your deck. Communicating across the country via E-mail only with a renter as an intermediary can be difficult; in the past, when issues like this arose, the homeowner was always present in person or was available by phone so we could discuss everything in context and keep them fully informed. There is rotten wood on your deck. When we brought this up along with the cost to replace the wood, you expressed a desire not to replace it, and just to stain it. We did provide a disclaimer that the final look wouldn't be of the quality standard we set, but could do a more time intensive job, i.e. higher price than our original quote, to get everything looking as good as possible. You generously offered to raise the price of the job under these conditions, so we went ahead with the project. Typically, we don't stain or paint over rotten wood. Occasionally landlords of rental homes prefer to save on larger expenses and only get appearances cosmetically improved. We appreciate the work, and it is a fairly large project, but in retrospect, we should have declined the job knowing there was still a possibility that all work could be done according to the original job description and the final appearance not up to standards [because of the rotten wood and higher expense you indicated you did not want to pay for which would have resolved the rotten wood]. It feels as though our hands were tied with no way to resolve the matter fairly to your satisfaction unless we replaced all the wood out of pocket for labor and materials. To use an analogy, this is like putting a long sleeved shirt on a person missing an arm. The shirt will not look right unless a prosthetic is worn. If the person demands a long sleeved shirt anyway, the extra sleeve should be pinned up to look neat. Either way, without the prosthetic, the shirt wouldn't look the same than if the person had both arms or had a prosthetic on. There is a physical impossibility at hand, which is similar to physically rotten wood which, without carpentry no amount of stain can transform. If there is anything else we can do for you - including replace the rotten wood at a significant discount given the existing business relationship - I'd be more than happy to help. Thank you for your time.

Working with Elysium was one of the most positive contractor-client experiences I have had. The crew was on time and prepared to begin the work on day one of the project. I was able to communicate openly and easily with the crew which was important on a project of this size. Elysium completed thorough prep work on my home which had a large amount of peeling paint, they replaced a large amount of my siding and some rotten bannister rails on my porch! This is a company that delivers what they promise, we are very pleased with the finished product and look forward to enjoying the longevity that a good paint job provides in terms of protection and curb appeal for our home.

e job started out with a delay but got back on track. The crew was told not to paint a closet that was in both the estimate and the walk thru job confirmation and it took until 7/2 to get someone back to complete the job. After several emails and phone calls the owner had Chris finally confirm a start date, which Chris promptly pushed out again. I know that the first two painters quit and this was the reason for some of the delays but not all of them. I might use them in the future..maybe.

Thank you for the work, (removed member name). I took a look at your estimate, and the closets were actually not included in your job. We did two of them on the lower level on a complimentary basis, but the upstairs one was full of personal belongings during the course of the job, and we have a record of you saying it not being a big deal. Given it was a complimentary perk not included on the original quote, I apologize for the extra time it took to get done once you got back from vacation, but am glad we were able to handle it for you. In the future, let's touch base about time frames; as a courtesy to homeowners for jobs in progress, it's considerate not to pull painters off one job and assign them to another without notice. We did schedule the free closet painting as soon as we heard you had returned from your trip, and it did get done according to schedule. We did do a walkthrough and inspection, and if you see any needs for touch ups here or elsewhere, absolutely let us know and we can take care of them right away. Thank you very much for your business. Have a great day, -David
