I've got a long driveway and the asphalt had many cracks in it. I was approached by Don one morning and he informed me that my neighbor was having his crew "chip seal" their drive and he said while he was there it would be cheaper for me to have mine done then too. He gave me a brochure that explained what chip sealing is and also explained it himself. I told him I was not interested in a gravel driveway and he said that it wasn't a gravel drive, all these stones get pushed into the stuff he lays down first. I was adamant about not wanting a "loose" driveway and he assured me it would not be so. He said "you know when you are driving down a road and you see the sign that says "loose stone", that's chip seal, it all gets pushed in. I signed up and when the time came he did my drive and my neighbors. It rained part way through the job but he assured me that would not affect the quality of the drive. After he was done we walked the driveway and it was nothing but loose stones and I asked him about it again telling him I did not want a loose stone driveway and he assured me they would be pushed in. After a couple months of dealing with a gravel driveway I called Don to have him check it out and take care of it. He came over and said it looked good and that I must have mis-understood him when we were discussing the driveway and that in the brochure it says its covered with loose stones. I have the brochure now, it does not say anything about loose stones. I also told him that before I signed up I repeatedly said I did not want a loose rock drive. Long story short, my neighbor had Don come and remove the stones from his drive where nothing adhered at all and then just throw a coat of sealant on the old driveway. Don's son and another employee eventually did come out and broom all the excess stone off MY driveway into a pile for me which revealed the horrible state of the driveway. My whole driveway is nothing but pot-holes and pits where this "chip seal" did not stick down. Do yourself a favor, save your money and get a real driveway from a reputable contractor. Also do a search for him online, his company has been in the news many times for shoddy work.
