Jim was punctual and replaced worn solenoids on 6 year old dryer. However, we discovered he had broken something in the control panel preventing it from sitting properly, making it extremely difficult to start. It takes a tremendous force to press buttons that were fine before his "repair". He also charged $20 more than quoted for his visit, but I paid it as I was happy we had a working dryer again. As I sat working from home, I heard him fire the dryer. I had no idea he had broken anything. I thought his profane exclamation during the process was just normal for a repair job. I know I've said worse on my own adventures. However, it was totally dishonest he didn't inform me the dryer didn't start the same way. He initially stated he would not repair the panel unless I paid for the new part. After I explained I would take him to court, he changed his tune and said he would order the part. I supplied him the part number at his request. Weeks went by with no word. I called. I called. I called. He eventually called back in December and said the part was on back-order and would arrive in February. I called in February. I called in March. I recorded him telling me the part was on back-order. Finally in March, he called and said he would stop by the next day. I stayed home all day. He did not show; he did not call. I filed a complaint with BBB. His reason for not repairing the dryer is that he said I was hostile. It is not hostility. It is tenacity in repairing a wrong. Please head my warning. He will charge more, break more if you are unlucky like us. I plan on showing the court all my calls I made as well as his return calls. The new bill from the new repairman showing damage to the internal parts damaged from Jim is evidence enough. He cannot lie his way out of this one.

(I typed that answer into the previous box by mistake, and I can't seem to use copy and paste to put it here.)
Description of Work: My dryer wasn't producing heat like it had been. I had guessed it was in need of a cleaning. I called Jim's Appliance Service Co because it was listed for Damariscotta (note, there is another Jim's Appliance Service in Edgecomb that appears to be a different company, but I'm not sure.) It was a Saturday morning at 9ish that I left a message with his answering service. He called me within a reasonable time, and he was able to come to my home that same morning (at 11:00). So, his responsiveness and promptness were excellent. (I live only 10 minutes from Damariscotta.) My mistake was assuming that because this is Maine and I've always gotten treated like a neighbor with merchants and service providers that I didn't need to inquire about the cost of the visit -- I assumed it would be a fair charge. Jim was at my home for maybe 5 minutes. He looked behind the dryer, and then he went outside to the vent opening. He heard the thumping in the dryer vent and informed me that the problem wasn't my dryer but that the vent was full of condensation. Then he left. That 5 minutes cost me $88.00. His demeanor was distant and felt sour. He did not seem to even consider that a less-than-5-minute visit where no actual repair or cleaning was done might be something that he could charge some more reasonable amount for. "The standard service visit cost" was all he had to say. Zero empathy (aka zero Maine friendliness of service). I totally believe in fairness for service provided; it was informative to me that he diagnosed the condensation issue, and his time to get to my house and surmise that diagnosis does, of course, deserve compensation. I also can understand that some would align with Jim's approach and justify it as standard business procedure. As a consumer, though, I can say that his approach resulted in me joining Angie's List and that I won't be employing his services again. I paid it and sent a silent blessing to him. Perhaps he was just having a bad day.
