BOB'S OLD HOUSE RESTORATION

It was a disaster! He took 50 % longer than he estimated for job. He cussed out subs. He triple billed us for his time after we'd already signed a contract for him getting a 15% contractor's fee ONLY, he still charged an hourly wage for himself, then the 15% on top of that hourly wage. Bob told us he was "on budget" with one month to go, then, came back with an "Ooops, I'm $36,000 over budget!" He did not pay his sub contractors on time, then when we balked at the overage, he put a lien on the house and we had to hire a lawyer and paid the lawyer $13,500 and Bob $13,500 in settlement, still saving us $10k from his original overage, but, daggummit, it was awful. He is a untrustworthy, lying scoundrel. DO NOT HIRE BOB ENGDAHL FOR ANYTHING!

This contractor situation was awful. Bob Engdahl contracted for a job to be paid a contractors fee, with the understanding that whatever work he personally did on the job would be covered under his contractor's fee and not billable hours. He triple-billed, didn't finish the job, billed for 94% more hours than contracted for, used unskilled labor (nephew) who's work was torn up and redone-all billed, He took weeks to do a roof that he admitted he had no experience with that should have taken two days. He did things out of order that baffled sub-contractors he hired like didn't backfill the foundation until four months into the project due to snow, he didn't put a floor in the basement until the final month of a (should have been 4 month) 7-month project by hand tossing gravel through the bulkhead. He told me we were on-budget as of the 5th draw (out of 7), then just three weeks later told me he'd made some miscalculations and we were miraculously overbudget by $22,000. We made adjustments to the work still to be done and took on $17,000 worth of work that would have put us over budget by just $5,000, but when the final bill came he now claimed we were $35,000 over budget, and "Didn't we understand that he had a kid to put through college!?" He put a lien on our house to hold up construction-to-mortgage loan for months, he wouldn't pay his subs until a lawyer forced his hand, he refused to negotiate the overages or even discuss legitimate questions posed to both he and his lawyer. He refused to meet for mediation after months of seeking mediation through his lawyer. He still walked away with way more money than was rightfully his. His work was shoddy and his professionalism negligible. Bob's Old House Restoration, at 105 Hubbard Lane, Winthrop, Maine should be avoided at all cost. Bob Engdahl is a sad excuse for a contractor, and has been the primary cause of a financial drain with effects that will linger for years. He sullied a perfectly good building opportunity with selfishness and greed. Avoid his business.
