Description of Work: Dan Merchant installed a generator hookup for me a few years ago and did a great job. When he was finished he insisted that both myself and my husband be present to see what we needed to do in case of a power outage. We have had reason to use the generator a number of times and have always been grateful for the lesson. The price quoted was the price charged. I am getting an air conditioner installed in the master bedroom and I contacted Dan and asked him to do the electrical work. The installers showed up on the morning of 4/30/13 and Dan did not know about it. I called him and he and a co-worker appeared and did what was necessary for the installers to complete their work. He will be returning to install a new sub-panel to handle the new appliance and to balance the whole existing panel.

Very happy with the experience. Merchant Electric was recommended to me by two different colleagues. Dan came and did an initial assessment, gave me recommendations and an estimate. Chose him over another company who had been highly recommended, based on initial impressions from his visit, and pricing. Had two people working for 2-3 days in total. We were moving and having additional work done and Dan was very flexible about scheduling the work. We agreed that they would do one day, finish what they started, and come back after we moved in to finish the work. On the first day, we discovered that our old wiring was difficult to remove due to stapling. This slowed down the work. Dan managed to get his team back on the Friday to make sure the work was completed in time for us to move in. We are really pleased with the results. The job ended up costing a few hundred dollars more than the initial estimate, but this was due to some changes we agreed on as we moved forward. Dan was always up front about additional costs and where we stood with budget, and I feel I received a fair and good price for the work. I was also happy with his approach - he listened to what I was looking for but also made recommendations based on what he felt would make sense. All in all, I highly recommend Merchant Electric.
Description of Work: Replaced all wiring, outlets and light switches, fixtures in the 2nd floor. Installed smoke/CO detectors throughout. Added outlets and ran cable TV wires upstairs. Installed bathroom fan plus new lighting and GFI outlet. Fixed three way switch that was wired incorrectly. Updated outlets on first floor. New GFI outlets in kitchen. Fix washing outlet in basement for washing machine.

Very good experience. Dan had a crew of 3-4 people on site and got all of the work done in one day. Very impressed with the quality of the work, how quickly they were able to complete it, and the price. Great value! We now have a very clean looking basement with new wiring and lighting. Not to mention not more plugs falling out of old worn outlets.
Description of Work: The contractor removed knob and tube wiring in the basement of a 100 year old building in Portland. The replaced with new romex wiring. They also replaced a number of old outlets and switches in the house and installed new GFI's.
