I was very impressed. Work began around 7:45AM and ended about 11 hours later. I watched most of it, and I don?t think any of them even took a lunch break. They were very relaxed about me observing their work, which I found fascinating. Despite the use of heavy equipment, there was a fair amount of manual labor in the trench. At one point I told them that they were certainly earning their pay, and the lead trench guy humorously replied that he does it for the passion. The sewer laterals are laid almost seven feet deep in this section of Portland; my understanding is that that this is deeper than other municipalities. The pavement sections pulled up by excavator were visibly about three inches thick. According to the Eco-Clean rep this was unusual - he?d worked on an excavation a short distance up the street, and the pavement was thinner. That made for more excavation work. The pipe was in a slightly different place than indicated on the City of Portland?s records (the pipe was laid in the 1940s), so they had to excavate another, smaller section. The team worked exceptionally well together. I was impressed that the lead trench guy felt comfortable directing the Takeuchi heavy equipment operator to dump gravel into the trench while he was standing in it ? this occurred several times. This demonstrates a lot of trust and skill in working together. They kept the work site clean ?one of them was always pushing loose debris back into the trench, probably to prevent slip/trip hazards. They had to excavate the sidewalk and a small portion of my lawn. After they completed bedding the pipe in gravel, they closed the trench and applied hot topping to the roadway. It was not an inexpensive repair; however it had to be done, and the price was competitive.

Huge job. Company owners, Ron and Chris, work beside workmen; hardly take any time off. Answered any questions easily, explaining as they went on; offered me upgrades which I accepted (were not pushy). Were very conscientious, neat, and nice. One of the best companies I've ever had do work on my home area. NO cons.
