Caron & Waltz

The “plumber” looked at my faucet and said he was “afraid” to work on it because it was “fancy”. I was charged $145.00 for this travesty. He also tried to sell me a service contract during this same visit. My faucet is not the cheapest on the market but is not especially unusual or frightening and is a common brand. It was installed by a licensed plumber, since retired, who showed no fear of the unit. The original firm of Caron and Waltz no longer exists and has been taken over by an outfit called Pine Tree Services. This experience seems like an outright scam to me.

They were all jobs that we needed done immediately . They responded as soon as they could. They fixed the problem and were professional and clean .

They job went very well. The electrician that was assigned to the job kept in touch and he was very respectful and responsive to anything I had to say. He is a nice person to work with and he got his work done in a timely manner. I had smoke alarms hard wired into the house and they sent somebody out within the hour after I called and they apologized. I thought they were great.

I had contacted two other companies that install and service gas heaters. They came out to the apartment and examined the area where I wanted a new heater. The first two companies called me and told me that they would not be able to do the work as they did not have a ladder long enough to reach the third floor. They would have to either buy a ladder or rent some type of bucket ladder. I thought that perhaps I wouldn't be able to have a new heater installed. I decided to give Caron and Waltz a call and they came out quickly and were able to give me an estimate and a date that they could do the installation. The price seemed to be comparable to the other two estimates I received and so I decided to go with them. The work was completed in two days and they did a great job. The tenant on the third floor is pleased with the new heaters. For some reason, the gas stove in the unit did not ignite after the work was done and so I stopped by the office and told them about the situation. They had a technician over that afternoon and the issue was resolved.

I couldn't be more pleased with the service and the work. Estimate was competitive, personnel very nice to deal with, work done on time and very neatly. My electrician was able to add several projects on the spot and it didn't cost me a fortune. Strongly recommended.

very responsive, timely quote, gave suggestions. i have used Caron & Waltz in the past and they provide very good service at a reasonable price and I can count in them to be here when they say and do what was asked.

The company president came by to give an estimate to install AC in a six unit condominium building. He said he would email a photo of the outside units and later send along the estimate. About ten days later, I called Caron and Waltz to see if at least the photo could be sent out and was told they would pass along the message. It's been well over a month and I haven't heard anything. I'm done with these guys

have had problem with a valve leaking ever since. They supposedly guarantee their work and yet tried to charge me to come back out to fix it (twice now and still leaks!). One of their workers shut off my main valve as well while working and forgot to switch it back on so my pipes froze then burst as I was away! When I called the emergency #, the office manager was very rude and said that I had and quot;woke her and her husband upand quot;... that they had 600 other calls to handle. The tech called and said he couldn't do anything until morning and to put space heaters on. Then the office mgr said that I told them not to come! Then, they tried to charge me anyway. Next, the office mgr sent me a nasty letter stating she would wave the fee for work on the guarantee but could charge me for a 'consult' of an hour that their plumber had to explain the system to me, which is BS - I had to explain to the idiot where the pipe was still leaking! I have been a regular customer for years and will NEVER use them again. I have to re-do the toilet pipe as it is not properly pitched and too close to the wall to accomodate my disability, which I clearly explained prior to the work. I also have a witness (my carpenter) and my nephew is a licensed plumber in Hollis, as well as another local plumber/ witness (who fixed the frozen pipes when Cand W wouldn't come and he is a terrific plumber - does not work for Caron and Waltz yet Caron and Waltz tried to charge me for the work he did to repair the frozen pipes too!). I can't believe they charged me $1500 for an ill-placed pipe that has to be re-done and their plumber can't fix a simple leak in 3 tries, then they try to charge me for it and insult me. And the final nasty comment stated that they expect payment by the end of the month or will begin charging interest! They are lucky I don't sue them for the water damage! Stay away - they are crooks and abusive. I had been warned by two of my other contractors but I just couldn't believe it until it happened to me....

It went great and my tenants were very happy!

They were going to purchase the tub and do everything. They were highly recommended by some of our neighbors. They were very knowledgeable and very thorough for the estimation process. We would use them if we decide to go through with the project.

They are honest and reliable. They try to accommodate you. They have skilled employees. I have used them in the past for electric work.

They came right out and reset my water heater. I had used them before for my furnace and was very happy. They even gave me a senior discount.

Excellent service and very efficient. Techs are very acomodating and explain things well.

We like them. They are pretty professional, and they are very knowledgeable. Their price is affordable.

To get a quote for A/C should not take 2 months in the middle of the winter.

Work was comleted as scheduled and without problems of any kind. Great job! Very friendly and courteous staff who were a pleasure to do business with. The company owner himself reviewed the work.

They are awful. I had two bad experiences with them. It was very expensive for a sink installation. They forgot to put the form to cover the hole on the bottom of the spout and they never came back to do that work. A man that had been working with my dad for years came in and fixed the problem in 15 minutes with the furnace with a slight adjustment. They have been here forever in the Portland area but I found them irresponsive and extremely expensive and not competent. They could have cost me a whole lot of money with the furnace. They did show up. They did work shoddily and incorrect.

Kitchen garbage disposal was leaking water from a spot that rusted out after 7 years. I purchase a new disposal and had them remove the old one and put in the new disposal I bought . They also checked all the drains to be sure they were not plugged up over the years. Serviceman showed up on time and did a first rate job. Cleaned up and took the old disposal with him. Would highly recommend them for any plumbing and electrical work as I have used them several times in the past with excellent results.

From our first phone call requesting a quote to the end of the project, Caron and Waltz did everything in a timely manner. We received the quote on the day they said it would be available and they arrived on time every day and finished the job on time. Even the folks in the office that we spoke to were professional and friendly. Chris and Rob were punctual; they provided high-quality fixtures and high-quality work. Our home is 93 years old and presents its own unique challenges for any remodel job. They did a great job and left our home spotless. The price they quoted was reasonable for the work involved; they even came in under budget and made the appropriate adjustment to our final bill. Chris and Rob were professional and friendly and we will definitely hire them again for any future work on our home. We highly recommend Caron and Waltz.

Great job!! Top efficiency in all aspects of the job by knowlegable staff. The owner of the company was available and visited the job from time to time but really wasn't needed as the staff were great to work with. This is a great local company with a local owner.

Caron and Waltz offered sending out Dave _ _ _ _ _ one of the finest trouble shooting able bodied mechanics I've ever had the privilege meeting. Dave slowly and meticulously chased out the under-performing boiler to as close to new as possible.I have no problem saying Dave may be one of the finest mechanic's in Maine.

They replaced the pipe. It was a fairly quick job.

May 10, 2011 - Dave Nisbet (owner/president) came out to our home to gather information for an estimate. May 19, 2011 @ 13:05. - Emailed Mr. Nisbet, asking when we might expect to receive the estimate. Received the estimate via email same day @ 17:12 with the response and quot;call or email with any questions or want to scheduleand quot;. May 25, 2011 - Called Mr. Nisbet to discuss the two different second floor options. May 26, 2011 - Emailed Mr. Nisbet to inform him of our decision and on the same day, mailed the signed contract along with the required 1/3 deposit. May 31, 2011 - Check cleared our bank account June 1, 2011 - Emailed Mr. Nisbet mentioning that our check cleared but we had not received any confirmation from Caron and Waltz that they were in receipt of our deposit nor had they contacted us to schedule the project. June 3, 2011 - After no response from the above email, I phoned Caron and Waltz, asking to speak with Mr. Nisbet. The receptionist hesitated and said she didn't know if he was in, but would ring his extension. I was not surprised that he did not answer but was appalled when his voice mailbox was full and unable to accept messages. I informed my husband who promptly called the office again insisting that someone call me back by the end of day with a scheduled start date. June 3, 2011 @ 16:55 - Received a call from Mr. Nisbet who told me our project would begin on Monday, June 13. June 10, 2011 - Received a call from Caron and Waltz informing us work would not begin until Tuesday, June 14 June 14, 2011 - One Caron and Waltz technician shows up to and quot;spec outand quot; our project. I told him this had already been done when Mr. Nisbet came out to quote the project. No equipment on-site, no work done. June 16, 2011 - Crew arrives mid-day with the condensing unit for 1st floor. By end of day it is in place but there is no other equipment to connect it to (no air handler, no duct work done, no condensor or wall units for the second floor bedrooms). I asked the crew to have Mr. Nisbet provide me with an update as to where the rest of our equipment was and when work would resume. Never received an update. June 20, 2011 @ 13:11 - Sent an email to the entire Caron and Waltz team asking for an update. Received a call saying that there was an issue with the logistics so the remaining equipment might not be delivered until Wednesday, 6/29. June 23, 2001 - Mr. Nisbet stops by with a sheet metal subcontractor to spec out the duct work for the 1st floor. July 1, 2011 - Caron and Waltz crew arrives to install the condenser and wall units for the second floor bedrooms. By end of day they had one wall unit fully installed and the other wall unit partially installed (as they ran out material to run a full line). They were not aware that both units had to be fully installed for either to operate. So we were left with a non-operational system in 90+ degree weather. Upon their departure, I was told they would not be back until the following week. July 13, 2011 - Caron and Waltz crew arrives to finish the 2nd floor wall unit installation, but still unable to complete the ductless installation due to missing materials. July 14 and 15, 2011 - Sheet metal contractor on-site to install ducts in basement for 1st floor system. July 22, 2011 - Receive an email from Mr. Nisbet with an invoice for the balance of the work. He did apply a $400 discount and quot;for the few delaysand quot;. July 25, 2011 - I emailed Mr. Nisbet thanking him for the discount and reminded him that the project was not yet finished. July 26, 2011 - Caron and Waltz installs last pieces of ductless line. Prior to their arrival, I had to inform Mr. Nisbet that insulation removed in the basement walls had not been replaced. The crew reinstalled the insulation during this visit. July 27, 2011 - Received an email from Mr. Nisbet asking if he could stop by and pick up a check for the balance. The invoice clearly states that major credit cards are accepted for payment. I informed Mr. Nisbet that evening that I would call in my credit card payment the next day. July 28, 2011 - Mr. Nisbet offered an additional 1.5% discount if payment was made by check. Although I was not happy with this arrangement, we agreed to pay by check. Mr. Nisbet drove to our home to personally pick up the check. The same day I emailed Mr. Nisbet to express how disappointed I was with the project - the numerous delays, total lack of communication and then to pressure a customer to pay via terms that were not printed on the invoice. I also pointed out that the company website offered promotions that expired a year ago. Also on July 28, 2011, I asked for the manufacturer's certification statement for the unit(s) that qualified for 2011 tax credits. I was told by another C and W associate that Mr. Nisbet was pulling that information for me and would get back to me shortly. As of September 7, 2011, I am still waiting. Aside from the unacceptable delays and near total lack of communication, the site was not spotless when done...metal pieces were found on the lawn near the installation of the 2nd floor units and could have caused injury/damage during mowing. Electrical line in basement was not run perpendicular to beams (like ALL the other wires, etc), but instead took the shortest route diagonally across the ceiling. And I had to ask them to replace the insulation they took down. I would never recommend this company for any work of any type. Wish I had been an Angie's List member prior to signing up with Caron and Waltz as the company had a and quot;Cand quot; rating prior to my review. (Expensive) lesson learned.
