Service person arrived when our nanny was at the house and she told him to call us once the issue was identified. Instead, he left an illegible write-up and never called us explain what the problem was. Came home to the heat still not working and called their after-hours number. The technician said they did not have the parts to fix it, so it was not worth coming out. Only option was to go without heat for 4 days until the part arrived. They apparently do not stock parts for the boilers that they install (in this case an ignitor). This is the second time they have left us without heat in the winter. The first time, when we signed up to use them for propane delivery, they dropped off the tanks but did not hook them up, leaving us without heat for 24 hours. They are horrible to work with, would not recommend them to anyone.
Description of Work: Called to repair an ignition issue with a propane boiler that they had installed a year and a half earlier.

The salesperson tried to sell me a more expensive unit after having talked about the Carrier unit that I ended up getting. He tried to convince me that I needed to have the heating feature as well as the cooling feature even though the room has central heat. Also, I had an issue with directing the way the air was flowing and Avery had no idea how the unit was supposed to work and did not offer to do any research to find out for me. Eventually a service person did come out and we figured it out together. I was happy with the person that did the installation but not happy with the customer service provided after the deal was done.
Description of Work: Installed a split air conditioning unit in master bedroom.

It went well. The repairman had me try a number of things prior to his coming out, since it was a Saturday and I would need to pay time and a half. I had checked the pipes outside. They appeared to be clear, but I shoveled more snow away from them. He hit them and it must have shaken some snow out, because the furnace suddenly started on it's own. We had just had a blizzard with a driving wind, and snow must have gotten blow up/sucked in the intake pipe. The repairman was there in about 90 minutes from when I first call, which I thought was great, as I knew they would be getting many calls that day.
Description of Work: I had my furnace serviced last November when it stopped working. They merely had to clean it and they also installed a new thermostat. I had to call them again on Jan 4, when it was -7 and the furnace wasn't working. Turns out the blizzard must have caused snow to go into the intake pipe, which prevented the furnace from turning on.

They came to service my AC and I was pleased with the work and price. They had to return about 10 days later to service it again and add another part. The good news is that they didn?t do more to it than they had to the first time. Bad news is it failed again, and I had to pay for more work.
Description of Work: Repaired my 15 year old central AC.

Description of Work: They installed Central Air in Dec. 2010, Came back to start up air in June 2011. Had to replace new thermostat they installed. In May 2012 they came back because Central Air unit was not working properly. Charged $310 for labor & some freeze stuff. Did not fully explain things. Then, this year 2013, same problem and I spoke with repair rep. and he told me it would cost another $310 for labor and then if we needed a warranty part they would come back, replace it and charge me more labor! It could cost up to $1,000 for everything. So, I decided to call Angie's List at the suggestion of my furnace guy, Glen Laferriere of Laferriere Heating, located in Windham, Maine. Great guy!!!!!!

They showed up on time with a full crew. They cut away the piping from the old boiler, removed and disposed of the heavy unit. They installed new piping, insulation, valves, etc. to tie into as much of the existing plumbing as possible. They used a crew of four initially to remove the old furnace boiler, cart it away and install the new boiler. Once the heavy work was done a crew of two set about the installation, plumbing and electrical. They added new insulation, brought the plumbing up to current code and worked well in a somewhat confined area. It was a treat to watch them work. They did an excellent job, even explaining their work as I tried to stay out of their way.. All the work was completed as planned in a timely manner. They explained their work as I watched, kind of like watching a surgical procedure that took a full day to complete. Once completed, they reviewed with me the work they had done. They were knowledgeable, timely, well-staffed and equipped, courteous and flexible in working around my schedule. They returned the next day to inspect their work after it had run, delivering both heat and hot water for drinking and washing. I would use them again in a heart beat for major plumbing and heating needs. I continue to recommend them to neighbors.
Description of Work: I had Avery Services bid on the replacement of my older furnace -- an oil-fired hot water/furnace boiler. I had other bids as well. Avery's written bid was comparable to others. I asked for a firm date for installation and insisted all work completed in one day. They explained in detail the work they would perform and the amount of time it would take and the number of service people required for different steps of the replacement. I signed the bid and gave them a down payment. They ordered the furnace and parts. We agreed on a specific installation date which they met. They replaced the hot water boiler unit, large, heavy and expensive. They used four men and a truck to move the 500 lb. unit in place. They installed the boiler, replaced the burner unit, redirected the plumbing, replaced old fittings several other badly corroded valves. Avery also pointed out that I might be eligible for a manufacturer's rebate, as I was replacing the cracked unit with a similar updated model, even though the manufacturer's warranty on the existing furnace had long expired. They were correct. I applied to the manufactuered and received a manufacturer's check for 15% of the replacement cost of the furnace. While I may have been able to save perhaps as much as 10%--20% by using a smaller independent installer, I doubt they could have installed it as promptly and completely as Avery. Four years earlier, I had used Avery., a family-owned company in business for several decades, to install central air conditioning/heat pump in my hope. It was a much more complex installation. It was well planned and executed. Last year I recommended Avery to my new neighbor, who used them to install an extensive A/C system. Both of us were very pleased with their work.

This company specializes in the system I have, they are extremely knowledgeable, accomodating, and reasonable in price.
Description of Work: I have an air purification system, air conditioning system, and I purchased an annual service contract. They came out and serviced everything, cleaned everything, and made sure all was in working order. I had just purchased this house, and know nothing about how these things work, cleaning the filters, and most importantly, the main part of the system is in the attic, which I was not able to access
