We had our metal roof installed only 3 years ago and it started leaking last year. Apparently they never installed ice stops and the ice pushed our vents and caused leaks through our stove vent. (This caused mold which meant we had to renovate our entire kitchen. That cost $18,000!) We did our best to calk it in the meantime for an immediate fix. Sure enough, it started leaking again into our new kitchen! When we called them about it as the roof is warranteed, the woman who answered the phone referred us to some guy named Toby who used to work with them. He gave us a ridiculous price of $1600.00 to fix the leak and install the ice stops that should have been installed to begin with! We specifically went with Burke’s because of the guarantee that the dad, the founder of the company, assured us of when he came out to quote. Apparently the son does not uphold the guarantee and quality that the company earned its reputation on. I still have my paperwork with the guarantee. I want my roof to not leak. I’d rather give my lawyer $1600.00 to get them to stand by their work than to pay some dude named Toby. Their guarantee is garbage. Go with someone else. Edit: 09/25/23 I just received a phone call from Sheryl Burke stating that our problem was from a lack of “maintenance” not their work, therefore they could come out and quote us to do what is needed to fix the leak but that they are more expensive than the quote I got recently. I informed her that this is not an issue of maintenance when they, the roofing professionals, never informed us that we needed additional hardware for a leak-free roof. We assumed that they, the professionals, would know what our roof needed and would include all of this at the time of quote and install. She tried to insinuate that we haggled over price, going with a cheaper option, (we didn’t) and she stated that Zach didn’t do the work, his dad Mark did. Wrong again, Sheryl. Mark quoted it in June and Zach did it in October. The bottom line: don’t trust them to do what is needed, don’t trust them to inform you of what is needed, and certainly don’t trust them to stand by their assurance of a leak-free roof.

When the work was first done, in 2006, all seemed to be okay, until we had to call them back twice to fix flashing around a dormer and to do the cleanup they'd neglected. As time went on, we discovered the shortcuts his crew took in cutting and applying the shingles, their failure to put crickets around the chimneys, all of which led to leaks from the moisture collecting in the attic. Mark Burke came back once, promised to fix the problems immediately, then disappeared. Phone calls have gone unanswered. We'll let our insurance carrier sue him; we're done with him and his company.
Description of Work: Put a roof on a historic property.

Two pallets of shingles were delivered on a Monday afternoon. Early the next morning Mark and his crew showed up. Over the following four days I saw that every member of his crew was equally committed to doing an excellent job. The roof of my house is fairly large with multiple ridges and valleys. In addition, several areas had at least 3 layers of old shingles they had to remove. At times, I doubted they could get the job done on schedule. But they did. When a section of roof took them longer to get the old shingles off, their answer was to keep working into the early evening. When they finally left -- after a 12 hour day -- they were back on schedule. Before they started a new section of roof, they took time to protect any flowers and adjacent areas with huge tarps and/or sheets of plywood so that anything falling from the roof would be deflected and slide away at an angle. Then at the end of the day they thoroughly cleaned the area, going over the surrounding ground and/or deck areas repeatedly with brooms, rakes and/or a blower. Most days, the area was cleaner then it had been before they started that morning! In summary, each and every member of his company -- from Mark the owner, on down to the youngest and perhaps newest member of his crew -- knew what they were doing. They all stayed focused on doing the job, and doing it exceptionally well!

Love these dudes! And I love doing business with local business people. I had a number of quotes done but the man who owns Burke's was the only one who went up on the roof to look at what the problems were!!! That simple move just going up there to see the problem up close and personal seemed logical to me. They fixed a few bad spots and re-did the top of the chimney. They were nice guys to have around, worked at an amazing speed, protected my house and lawn as they were stripping the roof. The only reason they had to come back for a second day, they were one package off on shingles, but they were back the next morning and were done by 9am.
