"We use a universal code IBC that is used by all architects and building officials so there is a lot of overlap with the building department and the professional providing specific requirements for each project. This client had unrealistic requirements for a routine document and request that needed to be coordinated with the city. This sometimes takes a conversation and clarification with the building department. I was more than happy to do the necessary revisions and reviewed these requirements with owner and building department after completed. I understood their budget was tight and was trying to save them time by finding a spot to meet them halfway so they wouldn't have to come out to my office from Cambridge to Hopkinton or visa versa to be considerate. There was never a fee charged them for this time and explained that right away. I came out for free as I do for all first visits and continued to explain that an email signed document is accepted by the building department. Extended travel time was not necessary. I believe the problem came with the interface of their assigned project manager. I don't think he expressed their needs or misunderstandings. It is important to work as a team. And I hope to clarify this very important point moving forward."
