We first talked with prospective builders in mid-summer, explaining that we wanted to begin the work in the fall to try to avoid having too much noise while people were renting the property next door. Travis was willing to work with us on the start date for the project, and we were able to find a week in September when the property next door was vacant. Travis had us meet with his subcontractors (Danny Dunbar and Steve Stanley) so that they could explain to us what they would do and so that they could hear what we wanted done. Travis outlined all options for us and let us make our selections, and gave us advice on how to obtain the needed building permit when we said we wanted to do that step (he offered to do it). The town of Tremont was great in helping us obtain the needed forms and advising us on what we needed to do for the project. On the start date, Mr. Dunbar arrived as scheduled and began the massive amount of site preparation - we had to have trees removed and the area leveled before framing could begin for the installation of the cement pad as well as an extension to the driveway made. Mr. Dunbar also had to be careful not to encroach on the required setback from the cove (our home is on a tidal cove) and to keep the garage the required distance from the property line. We had chosen to have an unheated floor in the garage. He worked carefully and quickly, transforming the area. He worked with Mr. Stanley to insure that needed conduits were in place as the power to the garage was coming from the house. Travis stopped by on a regular basis to insure that the work was going well. After the pad had cured, the needed building materials were delivered and the builders began their task. When other building materials were needed, they arrived in a timely manner. Travis and his crew kept the site clean and neat. Workers showed when expected. We had a few weather delays, but not many. Shortly after the garage was finished, Travis had the site cleaned. Throughout the process, Travis answered any questions we had. The work came in on-time and under budget. It was a joy to work with Travis and with Mr. Dunbar and Mr. Stanley. We would use any of them again. The garage was completed in a timely manner and we have loved having it this past winter.
Description of Work: We called a number of people to provide estimates for the cost of site preparation and building of a garage. Travis Tainter, the owner of TKT Building and Repair, took the time to talk with us about what we wanted and where we wanted it. He had subcontractors to do the site preparation and electrical. He took the time to talk us through the options we had and was willing to work with us on a start date. His estimate was reasonable, and we decided to use his services.
