I am the property manager for the home in question. Overall it was a very negative experience. The service techs that came to the house were friendly but the entire process overall was less than pleasant. I called and made an appointment on a specific day at a specific time. The woman on the phone told me that they work on all sorts of different HVAC units all the time and they, "would have everything they needed" in the van when they came to the house. The day of the appointment the techs arrived 45 mins late. I am an understanding person however, and know that it is difficult to know how long their prior appointments might last... After arriving they looked at the equipment and diagnosed the problem very quickly (a clogged filter). The techs said most likely this caused the issue but they would test some other possible issues to make sure there was no other problems...Unfournately they did not have the filter in their van (of course). The techs said they would run to the store and , "be back in 15 mins with the correct filter" as well as some extras for the future. They also said they, "would show the tenant how to replace it" Well, unbeknownst to me the techs never returned that day! They left the house and never came back! Apparently they did not stop back at the home until several days later to drop off the filters. With absolutely zero notification they made a second trip to the home. So a few days later I got a bill for about $170 dollars (which I felt was reasonable) for a service call where they were in the house for a total of 20-30 mins. A few days after that I got ANOTHER bill for $180 additional dollars for a completely new service call where they drove to the house and dropped off the filters. When I called to question what the second invoice was for..the woman on the phone was very short with me and told me she would have the owner call me. The next day the owner called me and left me a voicemail in a very rude tone stating that the bill was justified and we would have to pay it. Apparently it is justified to go to a customers home with no notification and send them a bill?! I decided not to call them back and argue over $180 dollars. I must point out however, the total cost of $350.00 seems egregious to replace a filter! This company has terrible communication skills from start to finish I would advise calling a different a different business for your HVAC needs. I know I will.
Description of Work: Service call for a forced hot air/central air conditioning unit in a residential home. There was water leaking from the unit and I called to have them diagnose the issue and correct the problem.

Response from Gelinas HVAC
“Thank you for taking the time to read my response. We wanted to apologize for any inconveniences to the member. This was an interesting situation, where we informed the member there were fees associated in the service call. When our tech discovered the plugged air filters he received authorization to order the special order filters. We informed the member that a box of 3 was needed for their system. The tech also let the member know that coming back that day was impossible, and we would return when the filters come in. The member wanted the filters dropped off because he could do it and preferred “to save money. In an effort to make the member happy we only charged him for the filters and a ½ hour travel time. We would love to earn your business, if you so graciously presented us with another opportunity. Please look at our responses wear we have completed work; this will paint a better picture of our services. Thank you for your time.

The Angie's List record for Gelinas HVAC very specifically indicates that this company provides free estimates and consultation and our home is very much on their list of town's the company services. Based on that clear statement of a free estimate, we contacted the company. We verified with Gelinas HVAC that, as indicated on Angies List, they service Raymond, ME. It is 34 miles from their office and not nearly as far as some of the other areas they list as service areas. The response was "Yes". We explained we were changing fuel oil suppliers and we wanted a heating and air conditioning company to service our five year old furnace and then provide routine annual maintenance on a service contract. We were told there would be a charge of $83 for the trip out to cover the cover the cost of an hour of their time and then, once they arrived, we would be charged $43 in half hour increments for however long it took them to discuss the work to be done, assess the work that was needed and to give us an estimate. The charges would not be credited if the work proceeded. This isn't an estimate, this is a product, a source of profitable revenue. When we brought up the company claim of free estimates and consultation, we were told "Yeah, people misunderstand what that means" Sure... "Free estimates" and "Raymond is a service area". There's a lot of ambiguity in those statements. As a blatant contradiction to their listing, they do not service the areas they list and they do not provide free estimates or consultation. Yes, I realize business operates for profit, and it may very well not make sense to offer free estimates and consultation, but don't use false advertising to bring customers in so you can cherry pick the ones that best suit you. I do not agree with the Gelinas response. At no time were we offered a flat rate for cleaning and servicing and the charge was specifically defined as a charge for travel, at the same rate as service, and time required to quote. And it was suggested that we find a local service company, which we did, Raymond Town Heating. They quoted furnace service over the phone, which was less than the Gelinas quote for travel and estimating. Raymond Town Heating serviced the furnace, and went on to quote, at our request, adding a heating zone without further estimate charges. They did that work, within the agreed amount, and we happily have a new service company.
Description of Work: We requested an estimate for servicing a five year old furnace and for an ongoing annual inspect and service agreement.

Very sorry for your frustration. It seems we had a miscommunication in conveying that free estimates are an industry standard for equipment type replacements and installations sales. Service work repairs/part replacements and routine maintenance requiring a site visit are actually called Diagnostic Fees, with a fee attached. Very different than estimates. We presently are servicing many of your neighbors in Raymond and throughout the Sebago Lakes area. Additionally, we have flat rate pricing for annual cleanings without an estimate needed. As far as similar companies that have Diagnostic Fees waived - if you contract them the work is definitely billed in somehow. Hope this is helpful in clarifying what has led to your frustration. We have asked Angie's List to modify the free estimate wording to read: "Free Estimates for Equipment Sales" to prevent miscommunication problems in the future. Thank you and hope that you reconsider an "F" review in light of this new information.

Bill Gelinas was very patient in giving us voluminous information on the two types of a/c-heat pump systems that we were interested in - mini-split and small-duct. My wife had major problems with the appearance of some of the mini-split system elements. So we finally settled on an all-house small-duct system. Bill was very professional (and patient) as we agonized over some of the choices. The system was completed in June 2012 and we are very pleased with the performance. I would also mention a few details that Bill guided us through that (for us) improved the appearance of the system. In the kitchen and master bath we employed slotted outlets installed in the kick boards of the cabinets. In the kitchen a major consideration was not having open discharge ports in the floor near food preparation areas. In the master bath, it was a question of finding a workable location for the port(s). We wanted a high quality heat pump outdoor unit and Bill guided us to what seems to have been an excellent choice. It was a pleasure working with Bill and his installation crew and we are happy to recommend them to others.
Description of Work: Install a 3-ton high-velocity small-duct air conditioning/heat pump system in our existing home that had no ductwork or previous air conditioning of any type.

Bill Gelinas came out for an estimate and returned again to go over what we had questions about. I will say he was not the best price, but from his responsiveness and professionalism,we selected his company. The crew that did our work was also professional, answered all our questions and did an excellent job. We were not living in the home at the time of the install and when I expressed concerned about some of the debris left laying around at the end of each day, Bill Gelinas and another of his employees came over and cleaned the house top to bottom. We also lost power in our town and when the power came on later in the day, the heat pump was not working. We called Bill the following morning and he was here in a few hours and needed to replace the transformer. He ended up upgrading the transformer so something like that would/should not happen again. They were a pleasure to work with and took care of any problem or concern immediately. Very impressed and would gladly recommend them.

Went terribly, $1,497 for a $446 repair. Not a good experience
Description of Work: Service call for furnace out. Fix 1: Temp fix for faulty expansion talk. Fix 2: Out again, replace temp fix with new expansion tank. Fix 3: Out again, replace gas valve. Fix 4: Out again, replace electrode Fix 5: Out again, replace Control Board When I suggested that some of these repairs may not have been what was wrong, Gelinas responed that all these parts failed at the same time. When I suggested that was quite a coincidence, I was told that, just the same, that is what happened.

Very unfortunate that customer had failed parts with his boiler. As a reputable service company we worked through the issues with his boiler. The unfortunate thing also is that this customer fails to say in his review that the manufacture had a string of faulty parts being shipped out. The manufactured completely warrantied all of these repair parts and our labor as well. Customer was only charged for the repair parts and labor associated that were indeed failed. The manufacture has now rectified the replacement part issue and like us stood up as professionals and helped the customer through a frustrating event. Hope the customer in the future in frustration does not need to find it necessary to blame the service company and report a poor review that is not accurate.

On the morning I called to ask if they could come give an estimate, they said they could send someone right away (about 45 minutes later!). By that afternoon, I had a return phone call with a verbal estimate and an emailed version of the estimate first thing the next day. The estimate was in line with one from a competitor and well below one from another competitor. They were able to order the furnace and begin the removal and install exactly 1 week after I got the estimate. They were very punctual, extremely nice and professional. Brian understands customer service unlike most contractors I have ever dealt with. Upon completion of the final dismantling of the old furnace and oil tanks, they asked me to inspect the basement to be sure I was happy with their clean-up. The place was spotless.

They installed A new shower unit on the second floor of apartment building. The plumbing was very old and a 2" drain pipe was so clogged it was at least 75% blocked, and in an odd location so it was difficult to access. They completed the job in less time quoted and I was very pleased with the end result, I generally am very critical of contractors, having been victimized by empty promises several times. They have two different divisions, I'm not sure what the 2nd line is, but I would recommend them for installations and would gladly hire them again

Great! Please see the explanation above.
Description of Work: Our central air conditioner (which was installed by a previous owner of our home and was not purchased from or installed by Gelinas) had suddenly stopped blowing cool air. The Gelinas technician opened and inspected both the HVAC unit and condenser unit and tested their functioning. He found the problem in the condenser unit: mice had made a nest in the electrical area and shorted out an expensive electrical component that the technician could not replace from the parts supplies in his truck. He contacted his parts man who was able to obtain a replacement component the same day, so the technician completed all repairs shortly after lunchtime. Our air conditioner works great, and we have signed up for an annual check-up with Gelinas.

Best experience we've had with a contractor in quite a while. Their price, although not what I would consider cheap, was more than $2,000 below other estimates we had received (and for a more powerful system). Plus, Bill figured a way to place the system that hides virtually all of the system except the front end that provides the conditioned air -- are far better solution than his competition had come up with. The installation crew was focused but friendly and seemed to enjoy their jobs. This is a company that cares about doing a great job and having satisfied customers -- I'll use them again for sure.
Description of Work: Installed a Fujitsu split air conditioner system for the main space of our first floor. Bill Gelinas came and did the site survey himself and prepared the estimate. His work crew was in and out in about six hours on the installation day, did a great job, and cleaned up so that there was no trace of the work.

My boiler was acting up; it was flashing an error message and needed to be restarted every time my tenant needed hot water. Another company had come in and diagnosed a circuit board problem. I Tried to get in touch with the tech to schedule a time for replacement, but got no response. After seeing a good rating for Gelinas on Angie's List, I called them. Their response was professional and timely; their tech spoke to the boiler company and agreed with the circuit board diagnosis. He got my permission to order the part and called me when it was ready to be installed. Once it was in, it turned out to be a different element that was causing the error message. The Gelinas tech ordered that part and got it in in short order. There have been no problems since.

Our experience with Gelinas was excellent. We contacted several HVAC companies for a quote and they were a little less expensive than everyone else. Based on their reviews with Angie, we chose them. They were extremely professional and detailed exactly what services they would provide and at what cost. They explained possible upcharges that could be incurred if they ran into anything unusual, but even with a few surprises, they didn't increase the cost. The gentleman that performed the service (I can't recall his name) was very professional, polite, respectful and clearly knew what he was doing. My experience with Gelinas was great and I would highly recommed their service to anyone.

Overall they were good and it was perfect. They actually realized that we had a carbon monoxide leak before we knew about it. I called them for an air conditioning estimate and they actually found a huge crack in by furnace which was leaking carbon monoxide. I didn?t shop around for the price. I could not be happier with the entire experience. I just purchased my home, and discovered that despite passing inspection, my furnace needed replacement during the annual maintenance check. I received quotes from another vendor, but read great reviews of Gelinas in other review sources. Bill Gelinas came to my house the same day I called, checked my current furnace, checked all of the vents, and quickly offered a clear proposal and estimates that included annual maintenance estimates on the air purification systems. His quotes were substantially less than the other vendor, for the same or better products! He took pictures and measurements of the current ductwork and space so he could do all possible work in his shop before returning for the installation. He was able to order and install my new furnace within a week (the other vendor was scheduling dates 3 weeks-1 month). The actual installation was fantastic--they were punctual, and incredibly nice and professional. They checked every vent, cleaned up the entire area, and even provided suggestions for improving my other space heating systems. I highly recommend the company based on price, quality, and exceptional customer support.

They are wonderful. It took about 3 weeks they bled all off the radiators. I kept having problems, it just wasn't working right. They would be here right away. I was getting upset because it was a new system and they sent every single person they had to come look at it. Then they discovered that the manufacturer had mislabeled the intake and output parts on the boiler on about 1,000 boilers and didn't issue a recall or notice. When all of this was going on Mr. Gelinas even gave me his cell phone number and said to just call him directly with any issues. So then they had to come back and repipe things, but it was not their fault at all and they were absolutely wonderful. Mr. Gelinas happened to stop by a few weeks again just for a rountine quality check which was all included in the installation price. I did shop around and they were kind of in the middle, but the estimate and contract he gave me was extremely comprehensive and more so than the lower priced company. When he came in fo the estimate they checked every single radiator for it's size and how much water each would take, etc., and the other guy from the other company just looked in each room.
