His carpenters were an affable group who were used to working together. Always polite and friendly. Every aspect was enjoyable. Bill always reviewed upcoming work with me, making sure I knew what was next and who would be on site. Sections of the house under construction were always closed off to prevent too much dust in the livable parts of the house. Upon occasion, Bill would make valuable suggestions where he thought there might be a preferable product such as a series of windows overlooking a lake. He suggested we go with larger picture windows. (Thank goodness). We did a lot of research on Bill as my husband is in insurance and knows what can occasionally go wrong with contractors. The research turned up a man with good business practices and high quality work. He still stands behind the work he did a couple of years ago and has been over to fix a few things we wished to add to or slightly change. There was never a problem with his billing. We are friends with him to this day.
Description of Work: Bill took a mountain top home and doubled the size. Our house design was complex with numerous roofs. I lived in the house during construction and got to record his work and enjoy his employees. Bill found us excellent subs such as cabinet maker, granite counter tops, Stone people. Bill also has created numerous finished carpentry items such as a wall unit, desk, bar, etc. As an example of how careful he is. When he had to cut a large opening in the cement basement to allow for an addition, he built a cribbing to protect the oil tanks which were near by. His crew of several carpenters adhere to many specifics that Bill requires - all to make for a nicer finished project. He worked with the cabinet maker to adjust an extra large cabinet I ordered for a hall. He recessed the unit into the wall. You would think the cabinet was original to the house. My husband did not like the plastic light switch plates in our bathroom so Bill made them out of red birch. We have an old original section of the house. Bill made an updated version of the old door and window frames that are nicely updated yet complimentary to the original house. There are many such examples I am not remembering at this point. I would be glad to talk with anyone wanting to know more. There are many facets of the job that Bill took upon himself to make a finished product that would last. One example: while finishing up an out building a year or so after our house project, he was digging a trench to bring electricity to the building when he realized that drainage would be needed on one side and he simply put it in cause it was the right thing to do. HIs construction subs were always timely and of high quality. HIs carpenters a delight to have on site. We now consider Bill a friend. He is one honorable man.

They had a very skilled wood finisher, but as far as the contractor, he was a gentleman type man to work with. He is just a joy. He is still available to us a year later. If we want to fix anything, he is very forward. He had all wonderful, polite, and good workers. He is now building a garage for me. We asked him to get a performance bond, which is an insurance to be sure that the job is complete. He did that work. He is qualified to get the entire performance bonus.
Description of Work: Bill Simons did the entire rebuilding of my house around 5 months ago.
