Renewal by Andersen of Portland ME

Renewal by Andersen makes a wonderful product but extremely pricey. The company is all about sales, and the installation side uses shortcuts and their workmanship is terrible! They hire subcontractors that have different levels of installation experience. I had my entire home and gambrel garage windows and doors replaced. The installers used too much caulking, and in my opinion looked sloppy and amateurish look. Caulking smeared onto my deck as well as on my cedar clapboards of my home. I addressed the issue with the Team Leader of the crew, and he reassured me he would take care of the problem, which he clearly did not! In regards to the inside of my home, when installing the new Provia Steel Entry Doors they damaged the sheetrock in several areas of my home, and once again used too much caulking on the windows. Due to the poor workmanship of this Company, I had to spend additional funds to hire my finished carpenter to complete the job. It was not what I expected from Renewal by Anderson and all the hype about their reputation. A business that weighs success by profits and does not provide extraordinary customer experience. The company sent Andy, a long time employee of their company to my home NUMEROUS times to address the issues I encountered during the initial install. It is obvious to me; the company does not communicate effectively, specifically management with the installers. Often times Andy would arrive at my home without the necessary parts to complete the job, only to return on another date. I would arrange for coverage / work from home to accommodate his visits. Finally, I reached my breaking point and communicated with the company giving them one more chance to complete the job to my satisfaction or I was going to seek legal counsel. I strongly suggest you avoid Renewal by Andersen, find another company that strives to please their customers, and are satisfied with a fair profit. I am very disappointed with the overall experience.

They provided outstanding service and quality in replacing every window and most doors in our home during a frigid week in March. All crew members were beyond professional and made the experience surprisingly smooth. The home is over 200 years old and required extensive work to remove the old windows and restore wood around the frames. The result was beautiful smoothly operating windows that look astonishingly close to the Colonial originals and we couldn't be happier with the result. Windows that glide open and shut and a 200% improvement in the insulation of the house! We have had so many compliments from friends & neighbors on how much more sunshine and clarity we now have without compromising the original Colonial character that we value. Everyone at the company has been a pleasure to work with and we can recommend Andersen of Portland with complete confidence!

Great experience from start to finish. Mike Begley was our sales consultant. He was professional, friendly, thorough and knowledgable. Steve was our installer and he was outstanding. It was broiling hot every day he was here and he worked diligently. He was extremely neat and clean which we greatly appreciated. From beginning to end everything went great. The contractor Jason was awesome, came out great clean and neat. Like he was never at my home. Excellent quality windows. A bit pricey but worth the investment. I would definitely recommend them !

Jim did everything possible to accommodate my concerns as the project progressed. The house had old leaded-class windows from the 1920s. HEoM workers worked with me to retain the old windows (which I was simultaneously restoring in the garage) by fitting energy-efficient picture windows behind them on the outside. Jim searched around for exactly the kind of porch-skirting and extra-long siding that we wanted. He coordinated work with an electrician and me as we installed pipes and wiring for a central-vacuum unit at the brief time while sheathing was exposed but before Tyvek and siding went up. We also coordinated installation of downspouts with my work on drain tiles and catch basins. And Tim and John (the first-rate siding team that Jim contracted) thoughtfully notified me of cavities behind the house's sheathing that had no insulation, giving me time to stuff some back there before all was covered up again with new vinyl siding. Andy Davis is the foreman at HEoM, and is the most gentle, unflappable, highly-skilled home contractor that I have ever met. Their usual way of insulating replacement windows had been with fiberglass. However, when I asked that they use foam insulation instead, the immediate response was, “Of course!” (My recommendation is that others do the same with any contractor, given that it results in a tighter, quieter house.) As always, HEoM workmen kept communicating with us as our wishes evolved during the course of the project. HEoM is best know for its work in seamless gutters. Prior gutter work on the house had been done in a way that at one point channeled water under roof shingles and that placed a downspout behind a porch's center columns. Jim came up with elegant solutions to these problems, and did so in a cost-effective way that did not require replacement of all our gutters--solutions that retained the original gutter style but with downspout color that matched our new siding. Such “consciousness of detail” was evident at all times during the project. For example, one of the siders suggested that a strip of PVC moulding would add to the porch's appearance. We took his advice, and could not be happier. The unknown truth about HEoM is that the company has professional skills far beyond gutters and windows. In fact, if I were to be thinking about building a house, Jim would be the first person I would speak with. Oh, yes. And they stand behind their work! A window sash and 4 screens were replaced no-questions-asked, when we noted damage. They repaired a strip of vinyl siding that had cracked after the first winter, and then over a year later Andy fixed a replacement window that was malfunctioning. Each time their response was immediate!

From the beginning, we were impressed with the total professionalism of the team we were working with. From the original visit to present options and produce an estimate, to the completion of the process, they were easy to work with, delivered what they promised, were punctual, and did high quality work. We are extremely pleased with all aspects of the process and will go back to Renewal by Andersen when we are ready to replace some more windows.
