I spoke with the owner and he felt like it was something that could be done on my limited budget. As I live out of state, I told him I would need help with subcontractors. I put down the deposit for drawings to be made, which were based off my detailed drawings I made. So once they received the money we tried to design something that would fit my budget. The second time I came to Maine to meet with them they were very disinterested and did not want to work to find a good size home for my budget. So, I am out $1,500 for their 'CAD' drawings which basically took my file and pulled into their program.
Description of Work: I was looking to build a small post and beam home.

Rockport Post and Beam did not do any site visit before beginning the project. The deck did not fit. We made compromises in the shape so that it could be done. The owner of the company said that this was my fault because I should have told him the soffits on the existing house were 10 inches not 8 or 6 inches as he assumed. I specified using a certain product for the glass deck. Apparently Rockport P&B paid no attention and did not seek out details of the product specifications, so that the welded aluminum posts were in the wrong place. The owner of the company screamed at me that this was my fault (I am a 63 year old nurse/housewife) because I did not tell him the technical specifications of the product. It never occurred to me that the builder would not know the specification of decking that he was installing. Most importantly the glass roofs on both structures leak! They have leaked since they were completed in August to September 1012. Rockport P&B has sent the subcontractor out to 'fix' the leaks about 6 times but has NEVER visited the site or looked at the problem since it was finished. The glass roof pools water. I have said over and over again that Rockport P&B needs to find a different solution or at the very least they need to come out to the site with the subcontractor. They simply ignore me. The last time the subcontractor was here to 'fix' the leaks he left the glass roof covered with silicone smears of his hand prints. The only solution they have come up with is to apply VAST quantities of silicone. I did not object to the price. If the product was of acceptable quality the price would have been fair.
Description of Work: Designed and built two post and beam structures as additions for the post and beam house they built for us 10 years ago. At the builders suggestion he designed a glass roof for the main structure (instead of the sky lights we had originally envisioned) as well as for the natatorium. We agreed to this. Rockport Post and Beam subcontracted the glass work out.
