Despite a very wet start to the project delaying the digging and pouring of the foundation, the work progressed nicely. Dave was prompt and professional doing the job. While he worked on the new addition, we were able to remain in the house with very little interruption to our comings and goings. Even when he had to move into the main house for the remodeling, there were few issues. During the whole project if he fell behind, he would come and work on weekends or later into the evening to finish. I would recommend Dave to anyone who is looking for a qualified, professional builder.

My husband and I were planning on a major home remodel of our 1980’s ranch and were looking for a general contractor to take on this project. We met David Maurice at a home show in Portland in the spring of 2014. We were impressed by David’s past projects, his responsiveness to our questions and needs, and his professionalism. David partners with an architectural designer who we used to create several design options for us. David helped us work with these designs and had valuable suggestions, resulting in a hybridized architectural plan for the remodel. Using this plan, David generated a very detailed written proposal for the project, and we hired David to start work in March, 2015. The project entailed raising the roof of half of our home, enclosing an existing porch to create a mudroom, adding a full farmer’s porch, and building an addition on one end of the house. It also involved the installation of heat pumps as the primary heating source for the entire house. New windows, flooring, trim, painting, and doors; vaulted ceilings; a remodeled kitchen; and major electrical upgrades and lighting were all components of the project. We were able to remain in our home during this work because David constructed temporary partitions so that we had a private living quarters. This was essential to keep our busy family operational during the months of construction with minimal interruption (and dust!). David was very respectful of our living space and always kept the property neat and clean during each phase of the project. David worked with the Town of Cumberland to obtain all necessary permits and inspections throughout the project. He also communicated any change orders in writing, as issues were discovered or as we made other decisions about the project. The change orders were clear and detailed and helped us track our budget. David is a perfectionist and a problem-solver. His work is of incredible quality and attention to detail. His finish work is beautiful. We trusted David with his expertise and opinions on every facet of the project. When he discovered that one of our kitchen cabinets was the wrong size (and would have delayed the completion of our kitchen by weeks), he was able to re-size the cabinet and keep the project on schedule. We are thrilled with our newly remodeled home. It is such a pleasure to live in the beautiful spaces that David created for us! Many of our neighbors have commented that our house looks brand new and beautiful. The house is finally energy-efficient, well insulated, warm, and with lots of natural light. David Maurice and his son, Brent, were a pleasure to work with. They were detail oriented, making sure everything was as close to perfect as possible. They were also very safety conscious, which made for a more relaxed experience. They left the worksite neat and always checked with us if they had any concerns or questions.
