We were so pleased with his work. He was extremely knowledgeable and honest about what needed to be done and explained things we didn't understand. He pointed out the good, bad and ugly. He was patient with our lack of knowledge and was willing to spend all the time necessary for us to feel comfortable. Our inspection went well but even if it hadn't I would have appreciated his honestly - you have to know what you are getting into with such a huge investment. His fee was so reasonable I actually asked if he was sure that was all? It was worth so much to know the TRUTH.
Description of Work: Brian preformed a home inspection of our new home, structure, pluming, electricity.

Brian is amazing. He is kind, patient and extremely knowledgeable about old buildings. We were thrilled to work with him. The inspection report was timely and thorough and serves as a blueprint of future maintenance and repairs to our very old building. Thanks Brian!

His rates are reasonable and he was very patient with our many, many questions. He is highly knowledgable about this type of residence and I would (and will) recommend him in a heart beat.
Description of Work: Brian did a pre-inspection as well as a formal inspection of a 150-year old farmhouse for us in Maine.

Brian was thorough, professional, and friendly: an old-school inspector who truly went above and beyond for us. The whole process went extremely well. Because of an unusual sellers' contract we needed to schedule house inspection in a hurry; Brian very politely accommodated our rush. Arrived ahead of us and was well-prepared with all tools & gadgets he might need. The inspection took about 2.5 hrs for a 2400sft house, and we felt it was covered thoroughly from roof to sump pump.
Description of Work: Brian took his time with the inspection and was an excellent listener, too, answering all of our questions seriously no matter how silly they may have seemed. He certainly knows old houses and was appreciative of the benefits that go along with the quirks of these structures. I was particularly impressed at his ability to size up an issue and give us options, from minor repair to outright replacement, along with what each option might cost and its long-term effects both mechanical and financial. We are buying a house that needs some major systems repair, and aside from his expert knowledge, Brian's familiarity with most local businesses and contractors has proven to be a huge extra bonus for us (as relatively clueless new old-house homeowners). His detailed report not only contained the plusses and minusses of his findings, but also had some excellent tips as to which local contractors might be skilled at various repairs -- not pushing one or the other company, but giving us a range of recommendations depending on how we choose to address the issue. A last comment: because his report was delivered in pages of fully written prose, rather than just checkmarks on a list of predetermined questions, it has been invaluable to us and become our 'bible' for assessing contractors' bids. We refer back to it daily. Thank you again, Brian! Highly recommend to anyone needing impeccable, trustworthy home inspection, especially for older houses.

Absolutely fabulous inspection of the property. Not only do I feel that I learned every possible flaw in this house we're purchasing, but a lot of the information is applicable to ANY home. The inspection is tape recorded so you can go over it several times to make sure you don't miss any of his wonderful tips. He doesn't just tell you what doesn't meet code and has to be fixed, he tells you pretty much everything you could want to know, both good and bad. Like "that'll meet code, but is pretty sloppy", to "they used excellent tile to line the chimney" (just examples).
Description of Work: Complete building inspection prior to home purchase.
