Contractor was originally approached in roughly the June 2015 time frame. He was very helpful and patient while refining and defining what projects needed attention. I was upfront with my expectations the whole time. As a do-it-yourselfer myself I did ask a lot of questions and was concerned about the details of how things would be done. He was very good through this process. I even offered to compensate him for his time to which he declined. I secured financing in August and was clear with him I wanted to be on his schedule as soon as possible. At that time he thought that late September was a possibility. As there were a few details / design choices I had yet to nail down a contract wasn't signed until mid September. This delay is on me. The contract he provided stipulated a start time of "October" and work to be completed in "November". I was a week returning the contract to him which I did third week of September. When the third week of October rolled around and I hadn't heard from him I left him a couple voice mails and an email asking for a status update. His response was "I got your messages I've been trying to figure my schedule out better now that we're getting closer to winter months. We're a little behind schedule at the moment. I think realistically it's going to be December before we will be able to get started on your project. I apologize hopefully this will work." I expressed my frustration but was, in general, understanding. I ended my response with "Please, let's just get this work done as soon as possible, when ever that may be, and before snow and freezing temperatures become the daily norm." I never heard from them again. I decided not to call him since if he didn't want my business then I didn't want to give him my money. I waited expecting him to follow up at some point. He never did. I eventually heard from his business manager in February 2016 after asking why I never heard back from them. They seemed to think that since they never heard from me and had apparently expressed my desire to get things done before it got too cold, that I must have found someone else to do the work. Maybe this is just a misunderstanding. I feel the burden to follow up was on him since his last communication was to say he was working on his winter schedule. I had a contract with them and wouldn't have contracted with someone else while I had the expectation they would do the work. The bottom line for me is this. I felt the apology I received was insincere. Regardless of any misunderstanding about cold weather they chose to not follow up with a customer with whom they had a signed contract. They chose to drop me from their schedule without any kind of phone call or communication. I find those actions to be extremely unprofessional.
