McCarthy Paving

What a terrible experience. I so appreciate the outlet you provide here!!! Mr McCarthy's assistant Paul,left a business card earlier in the fall 2010. I phoned Mr McCarthy (Mr M) asking if it was still possible to sealcoat the driveway in mid-October. He assured me it would cure. After the snow melt in the spring, the sealcoat was flaking off. This continued and was tracked into the house and all over the light covered rugs. What a sight; what a mess! What a cleanup time and again. Thurs 6/2/11, I phoned Mr M regarding this dilemma and the quality of the work he had done. He spoke at length, ad nauseaum, re the poor quality sealant his supplier provided. Mr M said he would not accept the responsibility; it wasn't his fault. He said that he was dealing w/ other clients and a big parking lot job w/ the same issues. I asked why he had not notified me when he realized there was an issue. Mr M said he did not track every customer he serviced. He said the supplier would be to my house w/in 10-12 days and it was "up to them to take care of it". Who would ever try to put this over on a client?! Isn't this the reason businesses are insured? Of course, no one showed up. In the meantime another property service rep came to say he was working w/ my neighbor and noticed my driveway seemed not to have been sealed for 2 or 3 years. He assured me he was absolutely insured, his business was in town and the job was done very well. By mid August I planned to reapproach Mr M @ his place of business vs a phone call so perhaps Mr M might be more responsive. Then, low and behold, he shows up on my porch that very day w/o any notification to me. He had his truck and a helper. This is 2 months after the initial phone call when he said he was passing me off to the supplier. I wondered how he knew the supplier had not followed through either. This day he offered to do the sealcoat, but saw that it was already done. Why did I have someone else do it? Um, maybe because I could not count on him to be a responsible buisnessman. He lamented that he came as soon as he could, he has a life you know, he has another job working nights and when did I think he could come over when he had to sleep days and needed his time off to himself. He was rude, condescending, good at manipulating the dialog this day. He was so unprofessional. He repeated over and over it was not his fault. I told him I expected a full refund of $200. He did not want to make a refund since he felt he did show up this day and offered his services. I told him the $ or we go to small claims court. He started this job 10 months earlier and did not follow through in good faith. He said he would be back Friday w/ the $200. Then Mr M came back to the door after I was back inside. He wanted the name of the Co. that completed his job. Mr M did not come back. My husband phoned Mr M 9/12/11; "I'll bring the $ right over". Mr M was told that he had 10 business days to respond or we would take other action. He did not, so here I am. I feel used and abused and worn for seeking accountability. Mr M needs to know clients pay for services and expect to have their rights respected. I would dissuade anyone who may consider doing business with Mr M. It seems, Mr M cares nothing for his name or buisness reputation or community standing.
