We purchased 5 large stepping stones and 1 pallets of stones to build a new entrance to our house. Jon came out to give us an estimate on repairing the front steps and other misc. masonry work. The estimate was reasonable and agreed to have the work done. The delivery team placed the new stones and argued the entire time. The comments about the owner were terrible. The job was delayed and postponed, one mason had the other worker in tears, ending the day with nothing accomplished. We brought this to Jon's attention and he replaced the mason. The arguing and unprofessional behavior continued. They measured the steps incorrectly resulting in a first step of five inches higher than the rest. Jon sent a helper to do a mason's work. When we got the bill we were flabbergasted. A $1,500 estimated ended up at over $9,000. We negociated the price, but it was still excessively high, especially considering the cost involved in fixing the error. DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY!

Response from Forgotten Stoneworks Inc
We are the victim here. We contracted to repair steps. We ended up totally removing them and building a new foundation for them. We informed the owner that we needed to remove the damaged slab. He agreed. We suggested that they dress up the concrete risers with slate. He agreed. He insisted that we cover the bottom of the foundation with slate. We complete a total overhaul of the steps during the rainiest summer on record in a timely manner. I used masons with 20 and 30 years of experience. I asked the owners if there were problems during the work, specifically bickering and and bantering, and the comment I received was that it was not a problem. They added work. We also patched the stone foundation inside and out. We pointed up brick on the side of the house. Our bill totaled $5200, which included delivering and installing very large stone steps for $850, patching the foundation and pointing the brick for $750, demolishing the original foundation slab by jackhammer and pouring a new one for $800, adding 5 slate risers for $500, totally rebuilding the slate steps, not patching, but relaying every piece, jointing, cleaning and sealing them for $2300. We bent over backwards to accomodate them. We negoitated a reduce price in a good faith effort to compromise. We did superior work and did everything possible to make them happy. We ended up getting shorted changed and dismissed. the member's comment that we billed them $8000 is incorrect. We work well with 99 percent of the people we work for because we listen to them and give them what they ask for.
