We hired Gary to do some work on the chimney outside. We also asked him if he could fix some cracks on our fireplace surround in our living room. My complaint is on the inside job. When he came out to do the job he removed approx. 10 bricks (there were only 2 bricks that had a crack in them but bricks surrounding these 2 bricks were cracking from him trying to remove the original 2 thus the 10 bricks in total). When Gary went to replace them he realized he had 7 ½ inch bricks. Our fireplace surround has 8 inch bricks. He left our house in search of 8 inch bricks. Apparently they do not make 8 inch bricks anymore. So we were left with a dilemma. Gary noticed our brick walk had 8 inch bricks so he had the idea to use these bricks. Mind you these bricks have been outside for say 30 plus years. It took about 1 month for his team to return to finish the job. He originally told me the earliest they could come back to finish the inside job would be mid-November. That did not sit well with me since I now had a hole in my living room's fireplace. I sent him an email after 3 weeks saying this needed to be fixed right away. I feel Gary should have known the size of the brick needed before he started removing them. The finished product was not good. Bricks were not aligned with the existing brick. The depth of the mortar versus brick was not the same as the existing fireplace. Also the mortar color is so much lighter than the existing. Bottom line is that I now need to hire a professional to come in and either fix or reface my fireplace surround. This is an expense I was not expecting. So Gary's Chimney may be very reasonably priced but there is a reason for it. I will leave it at that.

Gary's Chimney Service was great! I was selling a condo up north in the White Mountains and during the general home inspection the inspector said that one of the refractory panels needed to be replaced so of course the buyer requested replacement. I contacted Gary's Chimney through Homeadvisor and they happened to be in the area and inspected my repair request within hours of my call! In addition - their integrity became clearly evident because I requested they make the repair while they were there. But instead of doing a needless repair and charging me $250 - $300 just because I asked - they sent me a detailed email explaining that no replacement was needed and that the refractory panels were high quality and that the crack noted was hairline and not a safety issue. I presented the expert diagnosis to the buyer and they withdrew their request. It's nice to know there are still companies around that have integrity because they easily could have done a needless repair to make a few bucks and I never would have known the difference. I have 3 other condos up north and you can be sure I will be calling Gary's when I have fireplace. woodstove, or chimney work needs!

This is the kind of TOP-NOTCH family-owned & operated company that my wife and I love to do business with. We just moved in, and wanted to have the chimney cleaned and also take care of any maintenance work that was recommended. Gary saw that we needed Crown Seal work and was able to do it while he was here. What REALLY impressed us was when he said we did NOT need a cleaning. That kind of honesty and integrity speaks volumes these days! We requested a cap, for which he measured and ordered. We look forward to adding to our review or writing a fresh one when it comes in. Melody was absolutely terrific regarding customer service; we discussed at length the issues I wanted to address. This included sending pictures back and forth. Gary arrived late and didn't know anything Melody and I discussed and was only prepared to clean the chimney. I was told the cost was $50 more than quoted once he finished the cleaning; but in all fairness to them, it took them a long time to complete the cleaning. Gary was nice enough, but I am not sure if I would use their services again.

He came to inspect the chimney and was able to fix it on the spot. Job was completed in less than an hour. I just needed the cap repaired.

I felt very confident in hiring them after speaking with Melody, who has been kind & professional in answering my questions, & quickly responding to any messages. Gary is respectful, skilled & friendly in his explanations of Inspection, & assessment of needs. We look forward working with this company in the future.

Gary is a real pro: he has been a chimney sweep/inspector for a very long time, and his expertise and experience came through loud and clear as he inspected our chimney after we had a chimney fire this past winter. He also shared helpful advice for us going forward, and was efficient cleaning our wood stove flu. He found some issues with our chimney that he is going to repair for us so that water damage does not get worse. And as we needed to add a protective cap, he is going to do that job for us as well. Really nice and unassuming gentleman who made us feel valued and well cared for.

They called me back, showed up for a scheduled appointment and did all he was supposed to do.
