The Roof Doctors

The work took two days and included stripping two layers of asphalt shingles, decking over the existing roof with 1/2 inch CDX, installing a layer of ice and water shield and then installing vintage green three tab shingles as specified.

I called and left Dan a message, and he promptly returned my call. Came out within a couple of days and was able to quickly tell me what the problem was. Worker who was sent out to complete the repair was professional and polite, and also pointed out an issue he noticed (with some missing shingles around the chimney) while he was up on the roof. This was a very small job, and one that I would expect would get passed over repeatedly for bigger jobs, but they got it done in a reasonable amount of time, and I would use their services again. (I have used them before, at a different house, for a new roof, and was pleased with that service as well).

I compared The Roof Doctors to other companies and their response was much better than anyone else's. They were quick to respond and they were willing to come out and check things out. They gave me an estimate but they gave me three different options, depending on the quality of the shingle that I chose. I wanted some other stuff, including adding venting to the soffits. They responded quickly, we set it up. They came on time, got it done in two days and they did a great job. It was done very quickly and efficient. It was very well done. The roof is guaranteed, so I feel confident that if I have a problem, they would respond quickly.

We previously hired him for snow removal from our roof. He came back when the weather was better to do the repair. He cleaned up after himself and did a good job.

I chose them because they got a good rating on Angie's List. Plus, they were lucky. I received several estimates and they were most on target for what needs to be done. They seemed very fair and were good about getting back to me. I think they're very reliable.

I called the Roof Doctor for an estimate. The owner Bob came and looked at my house. The work to be done was discussed in detail by the owner Bob, and myself. And a quote from the roof doctor was given to me. A few days later the details of the job were discussed once again with the roof doctor. And the quote from the roof doctor was accepted by me. Both parties again accepting the details of the job. One day before the work was to begin on my house I had to insist that a contract, describing the work to be done, be signed by myself and the roof doctor. That contract, written by the roof doctor, stated, in writing, the details of the job. Including the replacement of an aluminum strip on one side of my house. Bob, wrote that in the contract himself. We both signed the contract. At the end of the contract, I had to ask Bob to replace the aluminum strip before the final payoff was given to roof doctor. Bob, however, was very upset with this. He insisted that he was losing money on this job. And insisted that the replacement of the aluminum strip was NEVER discussed. I asked him to check the contract but he was too upset to do that. He was repeatedly raising his voice to me, saying "I don't care what is written in the contract. We both know we never discussed the aluminum strip being replaced". In effect, calling me a liar. ??? The replacement of the aluminum strip of course was written in the contract, by the roof doctor, himself. It can easily be verified. Bob wrote the contract himself and then balked at carrying out his previously agreed upon contract. My suggestion would be, if you have to work with the roof doctor, is to .....Get everything in writing. And even then, Bob may end up calling you a liar when you have been the "best customer ever" according to his own crew that did the work on my house.

We needed a new roof for our home, and called various roofing companies in the area. We even called some of the larger chain stores for their financing options. We found that several of the companies spent more time talking about other companies instead of what they could do.. The Roof Doctors were responsive, had a no-pressure attitude, and were reasonably priced. The owner answered all of our questions before starting, and the workers were very respectful of our home and property. It was a great experience, and we would recommend them to anyone in need of repair/new roofing.

Dan originally provided me with a quote and a nice packet of information that includes a sample of the Grace Ice & Watershield waterproof underlayment material, brochures on the different shingles I could choose from, and a CD explaining the basic steps involved in a roof repair -- including roofing terminology. We then exchanged a few emails to clarify a few questions I had on his quote. The quote had stated that he would reflash the chimney as well -- but since the chimney is not on the side of the house with the full dormer I was a bit confused. As it turned out, I had originally asked him for two quotes, one for the re-roofing the entire house and a second one for just the full dormer. He had forgotten to remove the text discussing the chimney work when he modified the quote for just the full dormer. I'd recommend you call the contractor and go over the quote in detail before agreeing to have him do the work. We set a date. The job was scheduled to take about a half-day. His crew performed the re-roofing while we were at work and cleaned up very well. I only found a couple nails and roofing scraps in the backyard. I met Dan the next day to discuss how the project went and any problems. It went smoothly and Dan reminded me that his work is guaranteed 10 years --- and to call him if we have any problems. In the spring Dan will be the first guy I call to give me a quote on re-roofing the rest of our home.

I'm very pleased. The roof looks great, and they even put on a little extra Ice&Water shield beyond what I had asked for. They give a 10 year warranty on workmanship, and their estimate includes repair of any rotten wood they find. I got several estimates, and this was the best deal. They don't give you a sales pitch, and they don't charge anything over and beyond their quote (no hidden fees).

Would have graded them A in punctuality, but gave them a B because I wanted the job done in two straight sunny days rather than working piecemeal around rain days. All in all, however, the job was completed in four days regardless of the weather..
