OAKES PAINTING

Gerald and his assistant were pleasant and professional, did not cut corners. Because they had the scaffolding equipment already set up, they voluntarily cleaned a hard to get at window and also installed a fan that would have been difficult for us to reach. We were impressed and certainly appreciative. Quality work. I plan on using Oakes Painting again in the near future for a kitchen cabinet painting project we had been putting off until now.

Gerald's business card states he does ceilings, wallpaper, and painting so I had no reservations about his ability to wallpaper as he did a wonderful job on the ceiling. I was unable to be home that day and rushed in late just as he was leaving and didn't think twice about writing him a check for the wallpapering. He left and I went in to see the room and it was a disaster. There were torn pieces, patch work, and even some spots that were bare. Corners were pulling away and it was just a mess. I had him come back to the house, showed him the mess, and his answer was that he could repair it. I said no, I didn't want a repaired job and didn't pay for one. He started to yell at ME in my home, even though I told him that I didn't want the money back as I had more ceiling work to be done and he could make up for the mess by doing another ceiling. He said no, he'd send me back the money and didn't want to work for me again. Needless to say, he never sent a check and I had to hire another company to come in and hang the newly bought wallpaper, which came out beautiful. If Gerald had been reasonable and fair I would have used him for every ceiling in my large home, but he was nasty and dishonest and unable to admit that he couldn't hang paper. I didn't take him to small claims court because in this state you have to collect yourself even when the court finds in your favor and at 70, I'm not about to chase anyone nor get so upset as to injure my health but he should be ashamed of himself!
