Description of Work: Fine lines knocked down a wall in our basement and performed some general renovation work in the rest of the house. The original estimate was 10,000.00 but the project mushroomed in cost to 16000.00 without major increases in the scope of the project and although tiling the kitchen backsplash was included in the original estimate, they forgot to include the cost of this in their calculations and so this work was not done as they would have charged me more to do it. The quality of the work performed by their employees and their subcontractors was excellent, but I was unhappy that I was not able to complete the project and stick to my budget. (I had anticipated that there might be some additional cost as there is in any project, but I felt that this was excessive.) So if you do not care about the cost, the quality of the work is excellent. If you need to stick to a budget, proceed with caution.

I hired Fine Lines based on the design of projects featured on their website and the glowing recommendations of their clients (whom I spoke to directly). I did not get other bids for the work, for quality was my number one criterion. Having built two additions on a previous home in Maryland, and suffered the nightmare of repairing shoddy work, I learned the hard way that you get what you pay for in construction more than any other industry. Ted Andrews, the president of Fine Lines, did the initial walk through to determine what could/should be done to make the house more accommodating, while still preserving its character. He turned our conclusions over to his architect, Andrew Munsey, who created a floor plan. Once the basic design was in place, we proceeded from there; for I was comfortable fine-tuning details as the project progressed. Because I was on a tight budget, I really appreciated the fact that Ted welcomed my independent purchase of lights, fixtures, tile, and flooring. I was also extremely impressed that the thinking about how to use spaces didn't stop once a contract was signed. Late in the game, the project foreman, Ben MacDonald, suggested a reverse layout for the laundry that created a lot more storage space. The project carpenter not only did first-class work, but also advised me on cabinet hardware. I could not be more pleased with the final results. I cannot say enough to recommend the entire crew of Fine Lines. I have never worked with people who are so consistently accommodating, skilled, professional, sensitive to the client's budget, and just plain nice. When I recently needed a repair on a fairly new roof installed by another contractor, I hired Fine Lines because I knew I could trust them. They will be my only choice for home repairs or remodeling in the future.
Description of Work: I hired Fine Lines to remodel an historic home. The crew converted a walk-up, uninsulated attic into a home office and guest room, and also turned a second-floor bedroom into a master bath and separate laundry room. For the latter, they built cupboards and closets to significantly increase the home's storage space.
