Mr. Andrews was brought into my house by someone doing other work for me. He put in a repair ring for the toilet and put the toilet back. Someone else had removed it. I also asked him to replace the valve on the pipe going to the outside water source in the basement. Totally unrelated to the furnace. After this point I'm not sure what he did exactly because I didn't observe everything. I can only state what I observed and what he said to me. After he went down to the basement to look at the valve he said I needed a new one. Then the next morning I had no hot water. I called him and he came and told me I needed a new mixing valve on the boiler. I told him Dead River had put on a new one 9 months ago. No response from him. so, I thought maybe it has broken? He said he couldn't find one in his truck and would come back the next day. The next day he said he had brought the valve with him and went down to the basement to install it. The water was still just lukewarm. This went on for two days, no hot water with him going up and down to check the temperature of the water Then he began to hint that I might need the coil cleaned or replaced. He had not seen it at that point. I said no because the loss of hot water was sudden. I asked him about propane vs. oil and he said his supplier in Bangor could come to the house and do an audit and make recommendations. I said yes. On the fourth day I called Dead River to come out. He came and I had hot water in 30 minutes. He showed me the old mixing valve. It had not been replaced. I showed him the bill for the new valve put in 9 mos ago, the exact kind he installed again. The rest is conjecture. I think Andrews stole the relatively new valve and put in an old one and then played out the scenario where something else must be wrong, like the coil. And of course, since I was desperate by that time he hoped, having had no hot water for days, I would decide to put in a new furnace. The service person from Dead River gave me his personal opinion of Andrews which was not good. He also said he had gone behind him to fix problems. Either Dead River charged me $200 for a new mixing valve 9 mos ago or Andrews took it and replaced it with an old one. You will have to draw your own conclusions.
