IAN SMITH CUSTOM CARPENTRY

Ian and his crew understood very well the scope and details of the job to be done. This involved a lot of demolition, insulation, drywall work, and painting. It also required millwork in the form of staircase spindles and finish trim work. Ian also accomplished some minor structural work under a second floor landing. The crew was punctual, and very respectful of keeping the work area clean and tidy. Nice work all around.

He was wonderful. He was on time and did a good job. We got charged what he said we would.

Decided to go with another builder.

We had a few clapboards/siding and decorative fencepost that had failed from years of weathering, so we called up Ian to take a look. He gave us a very fair quote, did some prep work in his shop, and within a few days he had restored our house to tip-top condition with only just a few hours of on-site work. Not only was the finished work flawless, but the materials he used were of very high quality as well. We definitely plan to call Ian again for future work. Overall an excellent job.

The estimate was somewhere around $5000. I tried to contact Ian Smith Custom Carpentry because it is a small company of two guys, who do all the work themselves. We did not go with Ian Smith Custom Carpentry. We ended picking up someone who seems like their ideas were a little bit more flexible. I do not know how to characterize Ian Smith's ideas except that the design that he came up with was not exactly what we wanted. He seemed very professional. The one thing that I was impressed was he quickly created a design and in fact he was very prompt even though I did not pay any money for this. His professionalism was fine. I will not consider contacting Ian Smith Custom Carpentry in the future because I found someone else that I am working with now, so I am not really interested in getting more contractors to do the same thing. In the future I would not consider him because Ian Smith is a carpenter and I already have a carpenter. The fact that I am not going to contact him doesn't mean that is a negative thing on his part. I don't mean that he is not good enough to contract, but I already have somebody else to do the work for me.

Ian came to our rescue, handled the entire rebuild, including extensive contact with the insurance agent and when completed the house looked better than it ever had. He took charge of the entire project including all subcontracting. The job took slightly longer than planned but that was because of unanticipated complexities and he still completed it below his estimate. Ian is very personable and professional. Knowledgeable and capable. I would recommend him enthusiastically. Later, when we sold the house (you can imagine the questions!), the eventual buyer knew Ian and that eased his mind that the work had been done to a high standard...that was a huge bonus we never considered beforehand! I may be guilty of delaying this posting, but I believe that last part really adds to this story.

He was very friendly and the process went well

Ian is very personable, easy to work with, and intelligent. He helped us through the whole process (which lessened the traumatic aspects of having our home worked on while we were living in it) and we are planning to hire him again. The only problem was with the subcontractor for the Marmoleum kitchen floor, whose work was extremely disappointing. Ian did his best to rectify the situation.

Top of the line advice that was bullet proof. I can't say enough about the guy. I've seen the work him and his team do and it is top of the line. He is really spectacular he is a pleasant person that is also no nonsense. He is unafraid to tell the truth, no matter what the fantasy of the remodel is. I would certainly expect to get more than I had bargained for with him he is a 110% type of guy.
