The Chimney Doctor

We were having a problem with a down draft and our wood stove. I called Rich and he called me back promptly. He came out to our house within a few days and recommended that we either install a metalbestos chimney or extend our masonary chimney because our current chimney was too short. We decided to go with the metalbestos. We already had a few pieces of a metal chimney so we hoped to use it. Rich really went above and beyond when trying to find a match to the pieces we had. He made multiple trips to our house and different suppliers to try to figure out a way to use what we had. Unfortunately because the manufactor had changed we were unable to use it. However, I was extremely impressed that Rich would go through so much effort to try and save us money. He ended up installing a brand new chimney and it works perfectly. He did all of the work in two days. Everything about it had been great, looks good, works great. Rich even explained how to clean it so we wouldn't have to pay (him) to come back every year to do it.

It did not go very well. We had a leak from the attic chimney down through the ceiling into our bedroom. Our builders said the chimney needed repair so we hired The Chimney Doctor. He came and said he would take the chimney down and rebuild it and grout it and replace the flashing. He did so and after the next rain storm it continued to leak. After calling and calling to get him back he made an appointment to seal the bricks and never showed up. (Nor did he call that day) He called and made another appointment of which he did not show and with another storm coming my husband went up on the roof and replaced the flashing properly. (We had taken pictures inside the dark attic which showed large areas of the flashing that did not seal with the chimney) He came the next day to seal the bricks. Now over a month ago we called him because we could not open the damper to the fireplace. Apparently he had let morter fall and seal the damper shut. He made an appointment and then called to cancel it because it would be raining the next day and he could do this all inside. Never showed nor did he call. We have had to call another chimney repair service so we can now enjoy our fireplace. There is nothing wrong with changing an appointment when something comes up but not to show or call is unexceptable and unprofessional.
