Prompt response to request for bid and follow up questions. Low bid. Excellent advise on what was needed for prep (I removed 18" of plaster ceiling and lathe around the perimeter of the basement to provide access, messy job!) Quality work was done per specs on estimate. Meticulous application to numerous nooks and crannies. Excellent clean job on paint and clean up.
Description of Work: Closed cell foam sprayed on inside of my foundation and rim joists.

I am in the process of insulating my very old home and have had many insulation companies out to access the attic, crawl spaces and basement for the purposes of insulating. Deciding what kind of insulation to use in different parts of the house has been a long and slow process, but as my house is 250 years old, I need to make sure that I don't do anything to the house that could cause problems that would not necessarily present themselves in newer construction. I made it very clear that I would only be insulating my attic and crawl spaces this year and not my basement. I hope to insulate the basement next year after replacing some very obviously rotten sills and supporting a part of the foundation that is buckling. About 6 weeks ago, Scott from Seal It came to my house and did a very thorough search of the spaces that I wish to insulate. He was very professional and quickly sent a detailed estimate. Over the next month, he called every week to tell me that it was time to sign on the dotted line so that he could put me on the calendar. He was very pushy and each time I told him that I would call when I had questions and when I made up my mind. He called a few days ago to ask if I was ready to sign and I told him that I had chosen another company. His demeanor immediately turned to that of a petulant child and he told me that I was suppose to tell him when I made up my mind. Perhaps it was rude of me, but I nicely told him that I was under no obligation to inform him of my decisions and thanked him for his time. He asked me what company I had chosen and I told him that that was information I preferred to keep to myself. He asked if I would tell him the type of insulation I had chosen and I told him that it was a company that does a combination of spray foam and cellulose. He was clearly still trying to get me to a) change my mind and b) feel bad that I hadn't informed him of my decisions. I cut the conversation short, thanked him for his time and hung up. At this point, I was annoyed but still considering Seal It for basement insulation next year. Today I opened up my email account to find the following email from him. It was the most astoundingly unprofessional piece of correspondence I have ever encountered. I will let it speak for itself: "Sarah, While I don't expect to everyone I meet to buy our products and services, I find it disappointing that you could not be at least respectful of my time and courteous enough to inform me of your decision to use another company, as you said you would. Any decision outside of spray foam is one made only for a short gain and it is a shame that you will pay in the long run for this ill-informed decision. Regards, Scott Olsen"

It was a no pressure explanation of what they were going to do. The quote came in at half the price of another vendor's quote. They were quick, efficient, and clean. They did it all in one to two days. We felt a difference in the attic and were no longer getting ice dams of the eves of the roof.

The Seal-It team did a great job in prepping, spraying and leaving the space in the same condition as when they started. They were very courteous, quiet and efficient. We felt immediate results in our home once the insulation was installed. We highly recommend the Seal-It team.

The company showed up on time on the day promised. The crew reviewed the job with us and told us how they would be applying the foam. They were very careful of our property both inside and outside. If they ran into any unusual situations they discussed the problem with us and we agree on a solution. The job went very well and they cleaned up as promised.

After discovering our second floor base board water pipes froze, we had to remove sections of our ceiling to thaw the pipes. We discovered our remodel contractor had not insulated the ceiling joist/soffit area. I called Seal-It on a Wednesday morning, and was instructed someone would call me back shortly. Not even 5 minutes later I was speaking with their estimator Greg. A hour later I met him at my house. He was able to provide a verbal estimate right there, and provided a written estimate the following morning before 7AM. We scheduled the install for the following Monday. Greg met the crew at our house Monday morning, discussed the approach with his team and I present. There were several difficult areas to access and this required a significant amount of prep time. The two installers were very courteous, professional, and protective of our home (even wearing slip on boot covers to not track in excess dirt), and kept me informed of their progress from stage to stage. They went above and beyond my expectations for the areas covered. Given that this service was not something I was planning to do - it was an emergency repair - I was prepared to be very frustrated along the way. Seal-It insulation was a bright spot in this stressful time. Its so refreshing dealing with true professionals.

We couldn't find a roofer that would strip the roof, leave for a few days and come back to apply the new roofing. As it turned out, Seal had employees with extensive roofing experience. So they asked if they could quote the roofing job as well. They did, the price was good and we gave them the job. They showed up on the first day and sprayed the basement and were out at the end of the day. They informed me that the insulation in the northwest wall was packed too densely to inject and we had to give up on that phase. When the weather cleared long enough to warrant, they stripped the roof in one day, injected the roof insulation the next and by the end of the second day had ice and water shield all the way up to the peak. By the end of the week the roofing job was completed. DeWiit came back the next week and conducted another survey. The air leakage dropped by almost 50%. And with that our heating costs dropped by almost the same amount. The return on investment will be 4-5 years. After that it will be money in the bank and as an added bonus, the flying squirrels are gone for good. The only draw back to the whole job was the nails. As hard as they tried there were still roofing nails on the ground around the camp. The only way to get all of them would be for Seal-It to purchase metal detector. I would highly recommend Seal-It.
Description of Work: We had a problem with flying squirrels in the roof space of our heated camp. They were already their when we purchased the place and had pretty much removed all of the insulation. We were also facing the cost of re-roofing the camp within 5 years. After trapping 33 squirrels we had an energy audit accomplished by DeWitt Kimball of Brunswick Maine and he mentioned filling the space with open cell foam insulation. Seal-It was highly recommended so we contacted them. I had hoped they could inject the foam by merely removing the facia boards but that was not possible. They were also supposed to inject foam in the front wall that faces northwest and spray foam the basement ceiling. We decided to move up the re-roofing. With the roofing removed Seal-It would pull up every third board, remove the remaining insulation, inject the insulation and re-install the boards for the roofer.

I called the main office to schedule an estimate, and the salesman returned my call within 12 hours. He showed up when scheduled, and spent about 30-40 minutes measuring the spaces and asking questions. The estimate was emailed to me within 24 hours and was $6000 lower in cost than another company's estimate for the same service. They were able to schedule a 2 day installation within 2 weeks of the estimate date. The salesman emailed me and called the day before to remind me of their arrival time, and he arrived with the installation crew on time the next day. We did a thorough walk-through before they started the job, where they described the different products they were using on the different spaces, and I gave their my feedback: don't spray over this board but leave it bare, we want to be able to sheet rock this space, etc. The salesman AND the installation crew were incredibly knowledgable and I modified some of my choices based on their input. Before starting to spray the foam, the crew covered all our belongings (which we had moved away from the walls) with plastic sheeting for protection. In the basement, they covered the furnace, oil tank and other immovable objects with plastic. They also stapled plastic to the ceiling to protect our belongings from the spray. During the installation itself, the crew worked well as a team. One crew member did the spraying, and the other worked at cutting the excess solidified foam back to the joists to create a clean, smooth, flat surface ready for sheet rocking. In the shallower spaces they installed a heat-shield barrier to increase the r-value of the insulation. All the waste material was swept and vacuumed up. It was brutally hot in the attics, but they never stopped. The job was completed in the estimated 2 days. On both days the installation crew was professional and respectful. I was working from home, and they did not disrupt my work at all (no loud music, yelling to each other, etc). When the job was completed, the crew and I did a final walk through, and they pointed out some of the things they had done, such as sealing around those small spaces by the attic windows. They had cleaned up all the excess insulation and vacuumed the floors and hallways. My basement floor was cleaner when they finished than when they started! In the basement, they had found a small space that had been missed in the original estimate; this space required using a different spray foam than the rest of the basement, but they went ahead and filled it with the proper materials. They removed all the plastic wrapping. All the waste material was bagged and removed when they left. (The salesman had offered to return for the final walk-though but I didn't feel it was necessary). When the Energy Auditor returned to do a before/after comparison test on our house, we was approximately a 33% improvement in our air leakage values. I am completely satisfied with Seal It. They were professional and friendly, and it's obvious that they believe in their product and their service - it's not just about making money because these people really believe in the value and importance of good insulation.

Thanks for a good review! I am sure your fuel consumption has been drastically reduced the installation of foam in your attic areas, basement and crawlspace. I did notice you only gave us a C on price? Our price was only $300.00 more than the cellelose quote you received for above your garage.
