While vacationing in our 100 yr old cottage we noticed dim light bulbs. My troubleshooting made me realize it was affecting 1/2 of all the circuits in the electrical box, I suspected a bad main circuit breaker. It was Friday afternoon headed into July 4th weekend. Fearing there would be no electricians available on such short notice I called all the local people at about 3pm. By 4pm Gary, the owner, stopped by to help. I was very impressed by the quick response time (<50 minutes from first call headed into holiday weekend). He tested things and said that it was not the CB rather a supply problem from CMP (Central Maine Power) of half voltage on one supply line. Not being from the area I was worried, I did not even know who CMP was or how to contact them. Gary called them directly to have to the supply line tested. He left and they came out, they said the supply was steady at 110v and most likely it was corrosion at the meter box causing the poor transmission into the house and should be replaced. The next day, Saturday July 3rd (lots of great things going on for the holiday, Gary had mentioned wanting to have the weekend off) he came by first thing in the morning to take care of it. He coordinated with CMP and got an assistant. They replaced the Meter Box and power line into the home as that's where the corrosion was. They also added a new grounding line and attachment for the plumbing (to be grounded). The problem was fixed and completed in 1.5 hours. Total time from when I noticed the problem to it being fully fixed was under 24hrs, headed into a holiday weekend. After receiving the bill I was very impressed. It seems that parts costs are basically his cost and labor was fair, not inflated for the weekend situation as far as I could tell. Overall I was very impressed. Being from out of town on a holiday weekend I was prime for deception. Not only did Gary respond quickly, I believe I was treated fairly and am very satisfied with the price charged.
Description of Work: Troubleshot low voltage situation. Coordinated with electrical company for nearly immediate inspection by them. Then replaced Electrical Meter Enclosure and service cable from meter to electrical box upon determining the problem was within the house and not a supply problem.
