We are still extremely pleased with the kitchen remodel completed by Fortin Construction. They were attentive to our wants/needs, fixed all the problem areas, and completed the project to our satisfaction in only 2 weeks. We have even hired them again to install new windows and were totally satisfied once again. We would definitely highly recommend them, and would hire them again for future projects.

The foreman I think his name was Bob was rude and had no idea what he was doing. The workers smoked in my home, left trash everywhere and I had tools missing after.

Response from Fortin Construction, Inc
Hi [Member Name Removed], I am sorry but I think you have the wrong company. We searched through all of our database for your name or address and cannot find your info for any work completed for you or at that property. We also do not have any foreman named Bob. We do have a very strict no smoking policy as well inside homes as well, so this really does not sound like one of our projects. I am sorry you had a bad experience, but I do not believe it was with us. We are Fortin Construction Inc. located in Auburn, I know there are other companies with similar names, so I understand you may have left this review on the wrong company page. We ask that you please remove this review from our page though since we did not work for you. Best of luck to you.

It went very well. I have used Fortin in the past for replacing windows and siding and wanted to use them again for the roof. Ron Cordon is very knowledgeable and is very good at explaining the pros and cons of all options to help us come to the best decision for the job. The installers were very professional and did a nice, clean job. They took the time to be sure the job was done right.
Description of Work: Fortin replaced the roof on my house, garage and enclosed porch
We obtained several estimates. Although Fortin was not the cheapest, we felt that they were the best fit for us. We could not have hired a better company. They prepared the plans for what we wanted to do and they obtained all necessary permits. Fortin's estimate included anything and everything that was needed to take this addition from start to finish. It included the excavating, concrete walls, garage pad, framing, electrical, plumbing, roofing, siding, drywall, painting, finishing work and loaming and seeding. Every subcontractor they used was top quality. Every crew that showed up at our house was extremely professional. Fortin's employees work hard and they care about the product they are producing which is evident in the finished product. Fortin has specific crews for specific jobs - framing crew, siding crew, roofing crew, painting crew, finishing guys, etc. Each crew specializes in their specific area. Construction lasted 60 days from breaking ground to completion. It was 60 stress free days. We never had to worry about anything, they took care of everything. The communication was amazing - we always knew when people were coming and what they would be doing. We could not be more pleased with our addition and feel that it was money very well spent. I would not hesitate to call them again for another project and highly recommend them.
Description of Work: We added a 10 x 10 breezeway/laundry room with a 26 x 24 garage with full staircase to the upstairs of the garage onto our 1920 home.

I will not be using this contractor for the addtion.
Description of Work: WE had the contractor come in to give us a quote for an addition. The price for the addition was extremely high pricing the value of our house well above market value.
Description of Work: 11 windows were installed, all inside trim was done, new shingles outside on a 3 sided closed porch were removed and replaced with new ones and carpentry to close space to where 2 windows had been. Doors were also installed- one necessitating repair of rot into a support girder.

Once work got started it was done in a timely manner. Had to wait my place in the work queue. A crew of two did it all and they worked extremely hard even on some very hot days. They were both quite personable and friendly. They did a full days work and if anything I had to keep at them to stay hydrated and take breaks during the hottest times. Materials were delivered quickly and efficiently. The guy who dropped the dumpster (for debris) did an outstanding job doing minimal damage to the lawn area. A number of times I changed the job order by requesting additional things to be done (my fault, yes, it might have been smarter had I thought of this stuff before starting). Still and all they were able to work and deal with the changes and still get the mission done. There was a lot of debris but the guys somehow managed to get it all up and pack it into the dumpster in an efficient way. I was home during all of this and the crew was intrusive only as necessary to achieve the mission. Both the contractor and the crew were willing to answer my questions (even my dumb ones, and I had a LOT of dumb ones) without hesitation. The siding looks great, we've been complimented by many of our neighbors. The new back porch / deck thing is solidly built and once we seal coat it I expect it'll last a good long time. It has been 3 weeks or so since completion and we have had no reason to have to call them back for repairs or anything. The old Masonite siding was a horror show. Found where carpenter ants had just moved in but hadn't started anything, yet. Exterminator took care of that, along with some pesky wasps or bees. D*** bees. Once the siding was off found all sorts of odd work that appeared to have been done by Tim the tool man, or whatever. The crew was able to deal with this stuff using their carpentry skills 'on the fly' so to speak and were able to do the insulation layer without too many issues. The siding went on fairly easy although the chimney area gave them fits. Pulling off the old siding was a nasty job, but they did it quickly and neatly. As to the cost, we kind-of expected it was going to run a bit, but unlike shopping for appliances or a car, it is much more difficult to get any sort of accurate pricing info. We opted for a local company with a proven track record and history of many years of being in business. Fortin's has a good word-of-mouth rep and some background checking decided us on going with them. I'm satisfied that I got what I paid for and in the end that's all that matters. Yes, maybe someone else might have done it cheaper, but it's like having your car repaired. You can have your neighbor do it, or you can have a real mechanic do it and have it done right. The contractor, Ron, was right up-front with us; there were no "secret gotchas". In conclusion I would not hesitate to call Fortin's if I needed them. I would also easily recommend them for anything. If they can't do it, I'm sure they would tell you !
Description of Work: - Remove old rear deck - Remove old Masonite siding - Replace rear sliding door with new energy efficient one - Construct new rear deck (6x12) - Replace front door and screen door with new energy efficient models - Replace window set with new window set, again energy efficient glass - Replace basement door - Deal with insect infestation (fortunately minor) - Deal with underlying siding / construction issues (not as bad as appeared at first) - Install insulation layer - Install vinyl siding to two story house. Includes all metal trim work. - Remove all debris and clean up.

The experience was exceptional. The Fortin Construction people built our home in 2001. Their work and craftsmanship has been excellent on all occasions. If there is a problem or concern it is addressed with a smile right from Sherry in the office who is your first contact to Ron who does your estimate to the crew that does your work. For the smaller jobs you couldn't ask for anyone more professional and concerned about the outcome than Bub and Terri. They were both just amazing. They work on your home as if it was their own. You feel welcome to be involved as they work and take pride with them when the job is done. You just couldn't ask for a better group to work with. I would highly recommend them over and over.
Description of Work: Opened three interior walls for air conditioning people to complete work, Then came back and restored walls so well you would never know any work had been done. They also tiled and painted a bathroom.

We welcome this opportunity to express our positive thoughts about our experience with Fortin Construction of Auburn ME. Four years ago we employed their services to renovate a slab, uninsulated sun room. We requested the room be insulated, painted, windows removed and replaced and a sliding patio door installed. The estimate was given and the time frame established - both were accurate. The final cost came in within two hundred dollars (which was communicated and agreed to before work was completed) and the completion date was spot on. Notably, their tradesmen were competent, cordial and always most professional. Terry and Tony weren't 9 to 5's in our home but neighbors who were helping us out renovating. Most enjoyable experience. Fast forward to this summer - we saved up and decided to renovate- stage II. We made a wish list and in consultation with Ron, Fortin's project estimator, we prudently decided to scale back and get the most immediate bang for the buck. We had a garage door replaced with a window as well. Six upstairs windows were replaced. The big items were the kitchen counter, sink and stove top. The price quoted was the price paid, with one modification - window flashings (again communicated/agreed to prior to the work being completed). The workmen were courteous, competent and considerate. The plumbers were Robert III and Eric were delightful. They knew their stuff and it was fun watching them work. The counter was installed and cut out by Mike and Warren - good people. Mike without comment planed down a cabinet door that had been bothering us for awhile. Mike - thank you!! Ron stopped by at the conclusion of the day to review the day's work and to inform us that Fortin's was able to rearrange Terry's (the painter) schedule to have her available to paint the next two days to finish the project and let us reclaim our home. This was most considerate and did not go by unnoticed. Next year, if finances permit, we will revisit what was not accomplished this summer. Be assured that we will try for the hat trick with Fortin's Construction. In conclusion, we enthusiastically recommend Fortin's Construction and do so without reservation. They fully, fairly and competently inform you and from our experiences live up to their word - something that few do these days. Truthfully Nancy and Tom Maroney

Let me start by saying I am very exact with what I want in a renovation. The contractor spent a couple of hours understanding what we wanted in a project. We started with new windows and siding. All samples were provided and I love our choices. The siding looks just like wood but is durable and never needs to be painted and the windows work great. I liked working with this contractor so much we decided to renovate the entire beach house. The general contractor lead us through a myriad of building codes and regulations as we decided to entirely gut and renovate the house. We redid everything from wall placement to insulation, sheetrock, kitchen, bathroom, floors, electrical and plumbing. Ron, our general contractor was great to work with. He understood what we wanted yet he was always there with great ideas and helpful suggestions on how and why to do things. He was always accessible and ready to change something when we changed our minds. .We added many things to this project. At no time did we feel that our changes and additions were a problem for this contractor. They handled all of it with ease. Any of their sub contractors were excellent as well. I would highly recommend this contractor and this is from people who have done other large construction projects in the past. My neighbor is now having this contractor do a project for them

Called Fortin to check fading on vinyl siding they installed in 2010. Ron Condon from Fortin was here in a matter of days to help file a claim with the siding manufacturer; took a required sample, and walked us through all the necessary warranty details. Bottom line: Fortin does high quality work, they stand by it, and will go to bat for the customer should any material problems / product warrant issues arise.

They gave an estimate in October 2003 and began work in November. This eventually ended up in arbitration because they put a lien on the property. The job was worked on sporadically from November 2003 to May of 2004. There was never a schedule provided ahead of time and the workers were constantly changing. Some were completely inexperienced. The quality of the work included squeaky hardwood floor installation, a window that was not fully attached and moved when pushed upon, a doorway with a greater than 90 degree angle on one side, broken building materials provided by the owner, etc. I am glad to have joined Angie's to have an opportunity to voice my still steaming dissatisfaction.
Description of Work: They were hired to take over and complete a master suite addition on top of the garage. It was already framed and partially enclosed. They gave an estimate in October 2003 and began work in November. We hired them because winter was on it's way and it was clear we would not be able to weather proof in time. Their estimator was charming and convincing that they could handle the project with no problems. Eventual result was a cathedral ceiling bedroom, master bath with jetted tub, shower, toilet and two vanities, and three closets. Many of the materials we wanted used, ie, windows, tub, doors, electrical and plumbing supplies were either destroyed or disappeared. One example is they used the new tub with scaffolding and broke it along the edges.

Response from Fortin Construction, Inc
In response to this review of Fortin Construction, Inc. We did end up in arbitration like she said in her review. What she failed to mention is that we won the decision, and she was required to pay us in full. She also mentions that she hired us to finish her project because “winter was on its way” and she needed to get it weather proof in time. The truth is, that the code enforcement officer told her that she needed to tear down her structure and she hired us to fix her disaster. The structure included windows, doors, and skylights with no headers, no support beam for the floor, and walls out of plumb and square. We were very reluctant to accept this challenge, knowing that we could not fix the framing that was already done. We came in and did the best we could to avoid tearing down her poorly built structure, and told her not to expect our usual quality due to her poor work. We included a release in our contract that she signed off on, stating that her work would affect the quality of the finished product. All of her complaints are due to her own work. All of our other reviews are great with this single exception, which shows the issue was with the existing framing that we did not do. We are not to be held responsible for this framing, and that was also what the arbitrator determined.

The estimate was for $13000. My experience with them was fine. They came and then we talked. I told them what I wanted and they gave me suggestions. I got their estimate in three or four days. They were very good and very prompt. I did not have any problems at all. I have not yet had the work done. I would most definitely contact them again for an estimate in the future.

The guy that came to look at the project was polite but somewhat dismissive. He was definately there for the hard sell. We actually had to repeatedly request the estimate from him. It was a hassel to encourage them to get that to us. They eventually did get an estimate to us but we were discouraged with the experience to that point. I looked into his BBB rating and checked with the Attorney General's Office as well and negative information from both, plus our personal experience, made it an easy decision to go elsewhere for our needs. I will say in their favor that the contract they did present was very clear and precise.
