Needless to say they were disqualified by my mortgage company for attempting to have me provide a deposit and an additional contract
Description of Work: They tried to con me with additional contracts outside of the 203K process. FHA requires 1 contract and on 2 occasions they tried to get me to sign and give a deposit which is also against the rules.

You have used some rather harsh words in describing my company. Maybe you did not receive my last email to you discussing the MHIC laws for contracting work on a customer's home in Maryland? As I have insisted several times before, there are very specific regulations regarding contractor agreements. They can be found here: [hyperlink removed] My company does not "con" our customers. I explained in great detail to you that I am not allowed to work on your home without a signed agreement that includes the verbiage mandated by the MHIC. The agreement between you and my company was a duplicate of the scope of work your bank received, only on a different form that includes the criteria needed to meet MHIC standards. If we do not have this signed document and include everything the MHIC requires, we will be subjected to fines and ultimately loss of our license. We have successfully completed many 203k projects (we have 3 under contract right now). Many of which have left glowing reviews on this very forum. They were all also done with the same documentation and paperwork with no issues. It is a shame that you feel we have tried to "con" you. We pride ourselves on following the Maryland Home Improvement Commission guidelines. Any other contractor offering something different would be in violation of the MHIC protocol for contracts with homeowners. Thank you for the opportunity and for the feedback. We hope your project is successful and you find happiness in your new home.

Dave came out for an estimate and made recommendations; it was immediately clear that moulding is one of his specialties. His recommendations were spot-on, his estimate was fair, and the installations were carried out by his staff seamlessly and without a hitch. The guys were friendly, courteous, thorough and left not a drop of dust or wood filings behind. I am extremely pleased with how the lighting/crown moulding in the bedroom turned out - MUCH better than I had ever imagined. Photos attached are not showing w/ the moulding painted as we are still waiting for our painter to take care of the painting, but the moulding and lighting installed by Dave's team turned out great. The doorway framework that was installed wasn't 100% perfect (a couple of nails were not tightly fitted to the wall), but once we noticed it & informed Dave of the issue, he apologized and sent some guys back out to take care of it and all is well. All of our friends and family who see the crown molding work are overwhelmed with how great it looks... and we love it, too! HIGHLY recommend Dave Rutch! Will definitely be calling him for some upcoming projects. Unfortunately I cannot seem to attach photos... but take my word for it, the lighted crown molding looks fabulous!
Description of Work: Installed dropped-down crown moulding in the bedroom with dimmable LED rope lighting, as well as crown moulding in the foyer and powder room and a couple of doorways that required framework/moulding. He also recommended & installed picture-frame style chair moulding on the ceiling in the bedroom to center a nice-looking ceiling fan that we installed recently.

David and I both agreed that it was a matter of miscommunication; I, on the other hand, have a tendency to overreact, and I submitted a negative review to you yesterday. I would like very much to retract that review and ask you to omitted it from your records. He will be here tomorrow morning and, as he has done in the past, take care of the problem with the garage side-door that he installed. Thank you for your time and consideration. I am sorry if I have caused you an inconvenience. Jerry Catalano

We found Dave Rutch/Precision Remodeling on Angie's List and were impressed with the reviews. Our project consisted of replacing all the interior hollow-core doors in our condo with new, Mission-style solid-wood doors that would be sized and fitted with hardware on site, installed and then painted in place. We contacted Dave in June of 2014 about the project and he met with us at the condo on June 20th to discuss the project and take measurements. He made sensible recommendations, like trim surrounds where they didn't exist previously, which became part of the project. He followed up with a preliminary estimate later that month, and after some further communication and clarifications, the agreed upon estimate became the final contract dated July 18, 2014. Besides selecting the design and material of the doors (but not the manufacturer), we also selected the hardware (here we did specify a manufacturer as we particularly liked the knob sets they offered). Dave provided the hardware estimate separately, which was fine, and it was converted to a change order later on, in compliance with the contract. It was our preference to have Dave order everything--the doors and the hardware--through his supplier, since it seemed simpler from a logistical standpoint. And we felt comfortable having Dave handle these various components, as he was professional, competent, communicative and detail-oriented. The project started in early October, once the doors and hardware arrived and once we were able to be available. Everything was delivered to our condo, and Dave was on hand for that and to introduce the project to his installer and employee, Bill. Though some doors had to be exchanged due to wrong size, damage or defect, Dave took care of that with the supplier, and the necessary reordering was done. This set the project back a bit, but we couldn?t fault Dave for that (the overall project, with the time add-ons for reordering and replacing some of the doors, was completed in January 2015). Bill, the installer, was punctual, a problem solver and a hard worker. He sized and sanded the doors, installed the hardware and then hung the doors. It was labor-intensive work, and there were the challenges of door openings that had changed or were out-of-plumb (30-year-old building). Bill knew his stuff, took pride in his work, and was eager to please. Generally, he was careful, but there were a couple of mishaps?however, Dave made good on those things. Next came the painting. The painter of the doors, Phil, was a subcontractor of Dave's. Phil, who usually had at least one worker with him, was professional, punctual and careful to make sure the door hardware remained paint-free (since the installation of the doors came first, he had to paint the doors in place). However, in the beginning, there were issues with some of his work. Some of the brushstrokes Phil used in the recessed panels were perpendicular to each other, and this created a sort of ?shadowbox? visual effect. Also, there were small areas under the doors where paint got on some of the carpeting, and it was obvious where he had to clean it up. However, after bringing these things to Dave?s attention and after Dave did a walkthrough with Phil and us, we noticed an all-around improvement in Phil?s work and his use of throws/plastic sheeting to catch any paint in the carpeted areas. While his work was satisfactory in the end, we get the impression that he is more comfortable painting flat, slab doors rather than unprimed, recessed-panel, solid-wood doors like ours that demand a high level of finish. Dave was great with communication and developing a schedule that accommodated our schedules, and anytime there was a little hiccup during the course of the project, he made it right and wanted to make sure we were happy. We are pleased with the overall project and Dave?s high level of customer service.

Dave Rutch and his team at Precision Remodeling did a complete remodel of our kids/hall bath and they did a fantastic job! This was our first time using Angie's List. We subscribed specifically to find a builder for this project. I read all the reviews and contacted multiple builders to get quotes on the job. The prices were all about the same, but Precision rose above the others in professionalism and experience... so they were hired. These guys truly know what they're doing and guided us through every step. They were helpful with design and selection of materials. The guys showed up on time, were friendly and professional, and always left things clean and neat. We made a few changes/additions as the project moved forward and they never seemed frustrated by this. Their goal was to make sure that we were happy... and we were! I would highly recommend Rutch's Precision Remodeling and would gladly use them again.

Called them last week to see if they would replace two wood floor boards. I have a couple large dogs who are very rough on the floors. One had a very large surface scratch that went deep into the board and another board was splintering. I met with Jamie 2 days after my original phone call. Even though they had very limited availability, he had a crew out within 1 week to replace the two floor boards. The installers were on time, very professional, and were gone within an hour. They cleaned up the work space and left no mess. I highly recommend this company for your wood floor needs!

Dave and Jeremy were a pleasure to work with from start to finish. It took my husband and I months to decide exactly what we wanted in place of our existing deck and both Jeremy and Dave were very patient and professional, offering ideas and addressing all of our questions and concerns. Jeremy really listened to what we were looking for and presented photos of completed work to help us visualize options and details. Dave and Jeremy were great at communicating with us throughout the demolition and building process, checking in to see if we had any questions, keeping us informed about how the process was coming along, and making sure we were happy with the work. Jeremy and his team were friendly and professional. They took care of the building permits and coordinated the delivery of our new hot tub. The crew worked consistently until the job was done, which was within the time frame given, and cleaned up the job site every day. The quality of their work is exceptional and every detail was carried out to our satisfaction. We are so happy with our new deck. I would gladly use David Rutch's Precision Remodeling services for any future projects and highly recommend them.

The deck looks great and now meets all the county codes. You can tell the work was done by a carpenter who takes pride in the work that he does. I would certainly recommend David and his staff. Nice job!!
Description of Work: I live in a town house and David's team took down my old deck (2nd story) and built a new one.
Precision Remodeling partnered with a local a kitchen designer that updated our kitchen layout that was over 20 years old. The new layout provided a combined kitchen and Great Room that opens up the floor plan and living area. New cabinets, electrical, plumbing relocation, flooring, counter tops and appliances has made the kitchen and Great Room better than you will find in new homes and with better craftsmanship. Dave and his crew and sub-contractor's are true professionals. Daily communication was excellent as there were decisions that needed to be made during the demo and remodeling project. The sub-contractors including electricians, drywall, plumbing and flooring did an outstanding job and coordinating the work was outstanding. The project was complete in approximately 4 weeks and was on time and on budget. We would definitely contact Precision Remodeling in the future and recommend them to our friends and neighbors.

David Rutch is extremely professional. In reaction to our evolving needs over time affected by unexpected family financial difficulties, David took the time to visit me at my home on 3 separate occasions PRIOR to commencing any work. What was originally one grand $25,000 project was dramatically rescoped and will be completed in increments over an extended period of time. David had no reluctance whatsoever to continue our business relationship in the face of our developments. On the day of work a crew of three very competent and CONGENIAL men arrived on time and prepared to execute. I could not have asked for a better set of workers. The finished product met / exceeded what are admittedly very high expectations on my part. David is talented at LISTENING to his clients and ensuring he builds what they want, and not what he himself might envision, while offering sage advice where appropriate. I wish I was better off financially so that David and I could begin work on other, larger projects sooner.

We were very pleased with Dave Rutch and his company. He is the complete opposite of the stereotype that contractors don't communicate well and was in touch regularly, several times a day if needed and even when he was supposed to be one vacation. He gets an A+++ for communication. Since this was a commercial renovation, there were extra hoops for Dave to jump through before the work could be started but he was very patient as we went through the landlord's approval process. When problems arose, as they always do with these types of projects, the issues were addressed promptly, communication was excellent, and it was very important to him that the customer was satisfied.
Description of Work: This commercial renovation of office space included: Added walls to make 4 rooms out of the existing 2 rooms (finished and ready to paint), relocated the bathroom entrance, built a closet, installed 4 new solid wood doors and trim, rerouted or added electric, lights, and HVAC for the new rooms, ripped up glued down commercial carpeting and installed a combination of stylish carpet squares and vinyl flooring (which necessitated removing and resetting a toilet), added trim to hallway and front desk area. Worked weekends to get the job done close to on schedule. Obtained permits, architectural drawings and dumpster for construction.

The quality of the workmanship was above and beyond. We were on-site at times for the demo and Dave's staff was courteous. It's incredibly hard to find people who are responsive, timely, and understand your needs. We live in a small neighborhood where many of the houses are identical. Having the wall taken down has set our house apart and has opened up our entire first floor.
Description of Work: Dave and his team performed several projects for us. To begin with, he was very responsive when it came to providing an estimate, responding to questions, and addressing all of our needs/requests. We had a wall removed which was dividing our kitchen area and living room. This was quite the extensive project considering the wall was load-bearing and there was an HVAC return duct. As part of this project, the crown moulding and chair rail were replaced and matched up to existing moulding in place. We also had several pot lights installed in our living room, kitchen eating area, and dining room. In the dining room, electrical work was done to hang a chandelier. Painting was also provided where the wall was removed. In our basement, engineered hardwood floors were laid down over existing tile. Unfortunately, the tile in our basement was not in the best shape and was quite uneven which required some additional work ahead of time to level everything out. Lastly, some plumbing in the basement was fixed.

Our bathroom/bedroom remodel included complete demo of the bathroom and wallpaper removal and painting of the bedroom. We found Dave Rutch and his men to be very personable and their attention to detail was impressive. Nothing is worse than hiring a company and wondering if they will show up on a promised day or if they will do the job on time and on budget. None of those worries with Dave's Precision Remodeling. The remodel was better than we imagined. The communication factor was also impressive. We were kept informed of every detail. The crew was very personable. They took great pains to make sure the rest of our home was not affected by the remodel. We plan to remodel our kitchen in the near future and will surely be calling Dave Rutch. Very happy with the remodel

Consumer Beware? In January of 2012, we contracted with David Rutch?s Precision Remodeling to construct a fireplace stonewall in our home. After meeting with David Rutch in March of 2012, we decided to terminate our contract with David Rutch?s Precision Remodeling due to poor workmanship. The contractor for the company failed to re-measure and installed the permanent fireplace 23 inches off centered, and the workmanship of the stonework was of very poor quality. In addition, we had ordered audio /visual equipment that he never delivered. At this point, we had paid the company for 2 progress payments totaling $10,110.00 and an additional $5,030.22 for the audiovisual equipment. It was at this point we terminated the contract due to poor workmanship and placed a charge back on our credit card only for the a/v equipment he never delivered totaling $5,030.22. Our credit card company refunded our money for the audio/visual equipment after the company could not produce proof of purchasing the audio/visual equipment. We then hired another company to correct the poor stone workmanship of Precision Remodeling, however, was unable to reposition the fireplace without extensive damage to our home. In April of 2012, David Rutch?s Precision Remodeling sent us a final bill of $529.68 after termination. The contractor then used unethical tactics by having the LLC attorney send a threatening letter demanding we now owe $9,600 because we terminated the contract. Of course, we did not pay the $9600 and David Rutch?s Precision Remodeling sued us in small claims court. We told the court why we terminated, showed pictures of the contractor's poor work, and the court found we were justified in terminating the contract. David Rutch's Precision Remodeling appealed the verdict, and lost again. The appeals court dismissed the case in our favor. My advice to anyone who would use David Rutch's Precision Remodeling is DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY. The workmanship is poor and incomplete accounting practices are suspect at best.

I am sorry that you feel it necessary to steal the money you charged back to Amex and also to post this review of my company. As you can see, the 44 "A" rated reviews proves that your review is in the severe minority. I am also confused at the misleading information that you have provided multiple times such as why you took the electrical inspector to your basement when he came to your home and not the 1st floor family room where the project was completed. I am sure you have your reasons why you didn't have the actual project inspected thus diverting the inspector’s attention to the basement that had nothing to do with our project. We both know that my company delivered portions of the audio/visual aspect of the project, proven by my pictures. Unfortunately the judge (I suppose) did not know or understand what he was looking at even with direction from my attorney. We had pictures of the wiring and mounting brackets etc with an itemized list of what those products cost per our agreement. Again, my attorney has no idea what was confusing for the judge as it was in black and white. Sadly, the judge ruled in your favor even though you and I both know what the truth is – especially since I have pictures to prove it. It is a shame that you hired an interior designer that had no idea what she was doing or could accommodate your desired outcome. I was the installer, not the designer. I had to stop production multiple times waiting for her approval on various aspects since she gave very little direction. She failed at providing the way you wanted the stone installed on the corners as she approved my text picture the day of installation. She also failed at designing the cabinets around the fireplace. Both of these issues were easily resolved which you never gave her a chance to correct with my installation. We both know the structure I built was perfect and there was no reason to fire my company from the job. In fact, your wife asked me to complete the cabinets, electrical and audio/visual after firing me from the stone work. After I was dumbfounded over firing me from one aspect and keeping me for others is when you both changed your tune to firing from the job completely. No thank you for the advice to "give up" my remodeling business and join the Army. For your information, I served my country in the United States Army Infantry, 3rd Armored Division in Desert Shield/Storm. I earned 8 medals while I was in active duty including the Combat Infantry Badge which I am extremely proud of. I will say a prayer for you and your family hoping that you seek what you are looking for in life, with being honest and genuine.

Description of Work: Provide insurance quote for storm damage.
Dave is very responsive. He will answer your calls and emails. He is friendly and professional. He helped coordinate with several sub contractors, so we received his general contractor discount. The idea was to save us the headache of dealing with all the sub contractors ourselves.
Description of Work: Dave worked with us on several projects to get our home ready for sale. These projects included interior painting, new granite in kitchen, new front door and replacing some warped siding.
Dave was extremely personable, and punctual. We had wanted the project executed quickly because we were placing our home on the market. He worked with us to fit us into his schedule in a timely manner. He had established relationships with tile/flooring store, granite showroom/installers, and the glass installer so all we just needed to do was make appointments to choose our selections. Everyone we worked with were very accommodating, and made suggestions to suit our taste. The men on the crew did a great job installing everything from start to finish. Our bathroom was a small master bath to begin with according to today's standards, but the finished project looks like the bath you would find in a luxury hotel/spa. We love the new bath. Dave and his team are top notch and caterer to any concerns or questions you may have.
Description of Work: Master Bathroom Remodeled. Completely gutted bathroom and installed tile floors, vanity, granite counter, tiled shower walls, shower floor, and shower door.
