Description of Work: Was not reliable, I started corresponding with Scott in May through July to have baseboards removed and install. When finally set up a date to come to my home, he never showed up. Called 30 min after the time he was suppose to arrive and said his phone was dead and that he couldn't get to my email for my address. This was left on my voicemail, because I had an appt. that day and I couldn't wait for him any longer. This was a very dissapointing situation, as he had done work for a friend of mine, who had recommended him.

The bath (standard 5x8) remodel project was a complete gut job down to the studs and sub-floor. Scott does outstanding work at a good price. The bathroom turned out beautiful. Scott is very responsive and a pleasure to work with and will work with you on adjustments to the project without issues. My only minor criticism is that being a small outfit, Scott often is transitioning between jobs, sometimes affecting project start and progress.
Scott was the first contractor to contact us after the Baltimore Home show and met with us within a week or so. We also met with two other contractors. Scott's approach and the information that he provided was far superior than the others . . . and, his price was more favorable. We contracted with Scott. While the project took a bit longer that we expected the results are spectacular! Scott is a consummate professional and very pleasant to deal with. His work is flawless. We couldn't be happier.
Description of Work: Scott remodeled our two full bathrooms. One bathroom involved replacing a toilet, and an old tub with a terrific new air bubbler tub including new plumbing, tiling wall and floor, installing heated flooring and wall molding. The other involved a total gut renovation back to the studs. New drywall was installed, old tub was replaced with a fabulous tiled shower, new plumbing, floor and wall tiling and a heated floor. And, two doors were replaced, one with a pocket door. The bathrooms were transformed from the 1980's to sophisticated, modern, well-functioning bathrooms.

We spent about $10000. Scott is a nice guy. He does good work when he is focused. He shouldn’t be given many tasks to do at once. He doesn’t follow up if things don’t head in the right direction. He doesn’t write anything down. You can sit down to have a conversation with him and tell him what you need. If you tell him about 5 things, then he will show up with 2 out of 5 and that would be like repeatedly. He is a very nice man to talk to. I think he could do a wonderful job if he stays focused. He is already thinking about the next job when he hasn’t even finished yours. His price was a little high. He could have done a good job if he wanted to. I had to keep telling him what was wrong. He still hasn’t replaced one thing since last November. There are no phone calls too. We haven’t pursued him because it’s a small item. His punctuality was not very good. We understand people getting late due to traffic, but we don’t understand not getting a phone call. If you do get one, it’s really late from the time he said he would be there. He was professional as far as how he carried himself. He was very likable. We wouldn’t use him again. In fact, we went ahead and did another project without him. He is not a bad person. He had a lot of personal things going on in his own life, which could have affected his work abilities.
Description of Work: Scott A Melber Inc. put in a front door and a couple of sliders.
The job took about 7 weeks to complete, but included both the bathroom and wine cellar. Scott works mostly alone, or has his brother in-law do some of the work. There were no major problems. Any small issues were easily worked out with Scott. He's very easy to work with, and he is eager to get the job done right and make you happy. This is the second time we've hired Scott (he did our kitchen remodel also -- see other report) and we would hire him again.
Description of Work: Scott completely remodeled our bathroom and wine cellar. The work on the bathroom included removing walls, reinforcing joists, building a custom tiled shower, tiling the floor, installing new vanity cabinets and counter top, installing a new stand-alone tub, toilet and sink, all plumbing and electrical, and a new skylight. Plumbing work and the glass shower doors were done by subcontractors hired by Scott. The wine cellar (actually a walk-in closet with wine racks) included new dry wall, new drop ceiling, and new vinyl flooring.
Overall it was a pleasure to work with Scott (and his brother in-law who occasionally helped). After a short delay getting started (so he could finish a previous job and concentrate fully on ours), Scott jumped right in and began the job. Our house was built in the early 1970's and extensively remodeled in the early 1990's, so as the job progressed, Scott would discover problems from the previous work that required changes to our plan. No problem. Scott was easy to work with. He offered many ideas and work-around, and listened to our own ideas. His priority throughout the job was to ensure that we were happy, and not to rush the work. He stayed mostly on schedule through the first part of the job, but delays caused by our cabinet supplier (who multiple times submitted incomplete and incorrect orders for custom cabinetry) caused delays in the overall job. Scott worked with that company to resolve the mistakes, as well as coordinating with the countertop installers and floor installers (both were subcontractors not hired by Scott). Scott is very detail oriented, and HE is not happy unless the results are perfect -- and they were. In the few instances where we thought something could have been done better (or just differently), Scott fixed it or changed it without complaint. We are extremely happy with Scott's high-quality work.
Description of Work: Scott did a complete remodel of our kitchen, including tearing out interior walls, changing windows in an exterior wall, installing new plumbing and electrical, removing existing cabinets and appliances, installing new cabinets and countertops (purchased through another company), as well as lights, appliances, and fixtures. We also had cabinets installed in our dining room. Scott took care of all of the permits and inspections required by our county. (The $ amount quoted above was for basic labor and materials, and did not include cabinets, countertops, appliances, or flooring).
