He had a well detailed estimate back to me in 2 days and started work within 3 days of my acceptance. I never saw the crew as they worked while I was working. They did a great job of protecting all of my floors and furnishings. I needed a lot of prep/drywall repair and the did a terrific job on that. I used a few different colors and they got all of that right. After asking my permission, they worked on Saturday to finish sooner. They completed the work 2 days earlier than quoted and had a cleaning person come as a finishing touch. I will use them again and would recommend them to anyone.

He was very close to another estimate I received but I chose him because he was very thorough with details and very accommodating to my schedule. His painters arrived early or on time each day; did an excellent job and were very polite. They finished the job within one week.
Description of Work: Calos removed wallpaper from our foyer, stair and hallway walls. He painted all walls, ceilings, doors, trim, and molding. He replaced a piece of drywall that was taken out by the plumber and painted it to match exactly the rest of the wall. Carlos was very responsive and punctual. His team is exceptionally neat; they vacummed and swept every day before leaving. Carlos explained the process and was at my house each day to inspect the work. He did an excellent job and even some additonal work (caulking) without charging. I would recommend his work without hesitation and would use him again.

+ 1 moreCarlos and his team did a very good job. The work was originally intended to be completed in early Fall, 2008 but because of the weather it had to be postponed. We had given him an advance so we were little worried about work being moved to following year. However, it was completed in Spring, 2009 without any problems (I did have to call him and remind him of the pending job but once things were put in motion, everything moved efficiently). The colors used at the start of the job were not per what we had asked for during the contract finalization. Fortunately, we were at home and on noticing the difference in the color in the first 4 hours of the job start, we pointed the color problem out. Carlos and his team quickly addressed the problem and brought the new colors to complete the job. Woodwork was also performed to fix the door rot (I would have preferred a wood replacement fix as opposed to some compound based fix which was used for smaller rots - will need to check in Spring 2010 to see if the compound based fix has survived or not; I insisted on using wood to fix the bigger rots). Carlos and his team were courteous. They were always willing to address all the concerns and do an excellent job. Additionally, his team actually also replaced weather striping on the doors. In the end, it was a very good experience for us.

+ 1 moreFour companies were invited to bid to repaint my house, and Mr. Carlos Mosquera was by far the most reasonable. (I found his company and one other via Angie's List.) Mr. Mosquera visited my home, inspected the work site with me, identified areas of concern and asked questions, described his previous experiences, and submitted his bid via e-mail that evening. He also submitted references, four of whom I called and interviewed. Three of the four were realtors whose opinions on contractors, painters in particular, were well-informed. Each of the references gave highly positive and specific comments. Mr. Mosquera's bid was within the range of the others, but he included all carpentry within the scope of the estimate, not as an added per/hour charge beyond the painting bid, which the others offered. The bid was detailed and specific, estimating each component in a way that reflected thoughtfulness and attention to the details of my project, not just a boilerplate response. Our house hadn't been painted in awhile, so there was considerable work to be done. He estimated two weeks, and completed it within that time, despite rain interruptions. He incorporated additional work that I requested as the project progressed and priced it fairly. His team was highly competent and professional and friendly. At the time of final review, Mr. Mosquera quickly responded to an identified problem with a solution, with no argument or excuses. I would recommend him highly and look forward to working with him again.

+ 0 moreI checked out three painting contractors who received top ratings from Angie's List. All contractors took the time to prepare detailed estimates. Carlos Mosquera Painting provided the lowest estimate so I went with him. It took about three weeks from his selection until the work started. Carlos's supervisor for the job was Firman. He and the crew were friendly and tireless workers. We originally were only going to have most of the exterior of the house painted. But we actually had the entire exterior painted, plus an outbuilding. We also decided to add column wrps to our front porch. And we had the foyer, liivng room and dining room painted. The work was superb. The crew was meticulous. They took a month to do all the work. They replaced broken windows that they inadvertently broke. They accommodated out schedule. They cleaned up every day and caused us minimal disruption. Carlos was professional and friendly and made sure we were happy with his work.
Description of Work: The entire exterior of our 100 year old house was painted, including front and back porches, breezeway and carriage house. A large outbuilding was also painted. Inside, the foyer, living room and dining room were painted. Outside, Carlos's crew thorughly prepared the surface by first power washing, then scraping and sanding. They removed all storm windows and reglazed windows as needed. They scraped all existing wood shudders that could be reused. They replaced rotted wood. All surfaces were primed and double coated with Sherwin Williams Duration exteror paint. I purchased replacement shudders that they installed. I also purchased column wraps to beef up my front entrance which they installed. Inside, the plaster walls and ceilings were repaired. The surface needed a good deal of work and they created a very smooth surface. Everything was primed and triple coated with Sherwin Williams paint.

+ 0 moreWe found Carlos Mosquera on Angie's List last year, and his team painted six rooms in our house last October. We loved the work. Carlos is a perfectionist, warm and easy to work with, and his team is really professional, focused and thorough. He checks on the work on each of his job sites in person at least once a day, and he is always available by cell phone. He checks in with the foreman by phone too. For this big exterior job, I got estimates from four Angie's List companies, including Carlos. He was not the cheapest, but his presentation was great, and he had good ideas about the task. He gave me the Angie's List discount. It was a long and complicated job, and it took longer than either of us expected (just a few hours over two days for all the inside work, but 14 or 15 days for the outside work), but the workmen were thorough and consistent. I asked for, and he provided, all license and insurance information. I would definitely use this company again, and I would recommend Carlos to anyone planning interior or exterior painting. A beautiful result, and a process that made us comfortable and confident in the outcome.
Description of Work: This company painted a powder room, a study, and the ceiling of the family room and the wall behind the bookcases in the living room. On the exterior, they prepped and painted two coats of paint over faded stained cedar shingles, painted the ceiling of our front porch, painted the trim of the window frames in a contrasting color, and prepped and painted the metal stair railings up to the front porch. Ours is a two-year old, large three story house with lots of eaves and about 50 windows. We used only Benjamin Moore Paint throughout.

They worked hard to finish the job a day early when my schedule changed. In the family room although they were only down to paint the ceiling Mr Mosquera noticed a previous mistake I had made myself on one of the walls. In order to make the whole room look good he threw in painting the entire wall for free. All the rooms came out beatifully and the whole experience was without hassle.

+ 0 moreCarlos and his crew did a wonderful job prepping and painting both the inside and outside of the house. I was happy to see that most of the effort was spent on prepwork - scraping and sanding all surfaces - and that they used 2 coats of paint on all surfaces. We had a very poor paint job on the outside of the house about 3 years ago and the difference with Carlos' crew was like night and day. The first paint job power washed, primed and used 1 coat of paint. Needless to say we needed the house painted again soon. Only downside was a minor one - Carlos was a little slow in responding to our messages, like asking what brand of paint he was using so we could explore colors. That could be a bigger issue if someone really needs to try different colors, but we resolved t easily by asking Carlos to bring a small sample can that we could try on the interior walls. He brought them first thing in the morning which turned out to be a good thing since the interior trim color wasn't quite right and we selected another.
Description of Work: Painted the exterior trim of our house (brick exterior - only trim needed paint) and the interior living room and hallway, including upstairs hallway.

Threre were communication breakdowns however as he and the painters showed up at our house on the wrong date when I was not at home. I had to call to have him come back and paint one section that was missed and to clean up paint spilled on the granite patio. I e-mailed to ask for a small container of touch up paint after the work was finished and I had sent the check but have never heard back from him on this request. Overall the work was completed in a satisfactory manner, but I was dissappointed in the miscommunications.

+ 3 moreAfter a thorough walkthrough, Carlos submitted his proposal on July 28, 2009. It was accepted on August 10, and work began on August 19. The first objective was to complete the interior painting on the living room, dining room, kitchen, and 1/2 bath on the first floor, by the end of August, while our daughter and her family were out of the house. Carlos' crew finished right on time. Afterward, we agreed they could work at their own pace since we were in no hurry. They completed all painting on September 22, 2009. It was an excellent job that was not easy to do. At Carlos' suggestion, we elected not to try to paint the old siding on the back of the house and chose to install prepainted Hardieplank which was approved by the historic commission. That work is not complete as yet.
Description of Work: Ours is an 85 year old, 5-bedroom brick house with a frame-walled section in the rear, located in the historic section of Cleveland Park in Washington, DC. Below is an outline of the Exterior and Interior prep and painting that was done, as taken directly from Mr. Mosquera's proposal. The asterisked entries indicate jobs added after work began when it became apparent we should take advantage of Carlos' exceptional crew of professionals while they were available. Carlos quoted the added costs as the work progressed and they are included in the final total. I should point out that these dry specifications give little hint of the amount of skill and hard work required to complete this job. For example, the previous painter some ten years earlier had painted latex paint over oil based paint without using the appropriate primer and the resulting cracking and peeling could only be remedied by scraping & sanding practically down to bare wood. In the case of the fluted columns on the front porch it took a week and several applications of peelaway paint remover and a blowtorch to get to the point where scraping and sanding could prepare the wood for priming. Those interior rooms where wallpaper had to be removed required extensive resurfacing, and the ceilings of most of the rooms had either cracking or water damage that needed to be dealt with INTERIOR PREP & PAINT: 1. + -1 moreThis was the best experience I have ever had with a contractor. Carlos came over the same day I called to give an estimate, which he emailed me that evening. I got two other bids but his was the lowest. His crew spent three days in my apartment. They were all friendly and professional and were considerate of the fact that I work from home. They cleaned up every day and didn't damage anything. Carlos popped in and out to check up on the work, and he made sure that they paid close attention to detail and fix things he noticed that I never would have seen. The project came in exactly as bid, but he finished 2-3 days faster than he estimated because he decided to send over an extra crew on the third day to speed it up. From beginning to end, it was clear that this is a highly professional business that tries its hardest to make its customers happy. You can't ask for much more than that!

+ -1 moreThe best part of the experience came early on -- Carlos was on time for the estimate and thorough in asking about the work to be done. He gave me his business card and sent me (via email -- yay!) a thorough written estimate. His price was similar to other estimates. The work was scheduled to be finished in one day. During the walk through, I found a few spots that were missed, which Carlos instructed his crew to fix. I am picky about details (I believe professional means nearly perfect, otherwise I'd be doing it myself as an amateur). Then I discovered they had completely forgotten to paint the bathroom. Carlos apologized and said he would send his crew back the next morning to complete it, which they did. I suggested, and Carlos agreed without argument, that I should pay when the job was completed, not at the end of the walk-through when the bathroom was still undone.
Description of Work: Painted (one coat) living room minus ceiling, coat closet, kitchen ceiling only and bathroom (partial walls and full ceiling). Did minor patching and hole-filling.

+ -1 moreMr. Mosquera was prompt for the appointment we set up for the estimate. He was able to assemble a team quicly to get the work done before we moved into the home. He actually encouraged me to hold back on painting some areas at this time to save money. His team worked around people installing carpets and hardwood floors. Very responsive and neat. Excellent experience highly recommended with no reservations. completed the work for the agreed upon estimate.
Description of Work: On our second use of extensive service provided by Mr. Mosquera he again came through with flying colors. He painted most rooms and ceilings in a new home we purchased. He carefully patched areas of damaged drywall with more attention to detail than I had requested. He removed an unwanted bed attached to the wall in one bedroom prior to painting. He purchased the type of environmentally sound paint I had requested.
